That boat is done for The mast is broken, sails shredded, the foot of the mast is probably fucked completely and it's asymmetrical now. I mean it all can be fixed but will never be in perfect racing condition again.
I velisti della domenica.....ottimi atleti percarità, ma il mare non lo conoscono. I frangenti viaggiano a 6 volte la velocità dell'onda. Quando il fondale si abbassa è sempre probabile che se ne stacchino dalla cresta. Sono stati incauti a tentare di surfarne uno, quando la velocità critica del 470 è nettamente inferiore a quella del un frangente che finisce sorpassarli e ribaltarli. In questi casi prima di entrare e uscire dal porto bisogna osservare con attenzione dove i treni d'onda solitamente staccano il frangente, ovvero in prossimità di un bassofondale e aggirarli lateralmente. Un surfista qualunque, tanto snobbato dai velisti, l'avrebbe notato subito. Parola di 470 owner.
in realtà si trattava di atleti di alto livello che hanno molta esperienza sulle spalle. però sono atleti del lago che quindi non hanno spesso a che fare con queste condizioni. è chiaro che un pizzico di adrenalina in quel momento li ha spinti a prendere l'onda che non dovevano prendere. a regolare l'uscita c'erano gommoni che avvisavano i regatanti dell'arrivo dei treni di onde...
Perché non far vedere il video delle altre 193 barche che sono rientrate senza problemi?? A gestire il rientro c'erano diversi gommoni che hanno dato indicazioni precise sui treni d'onda. Evidentemente qualcuno ha preferito non dare retta ai giusti consigli.
I believe those boats have adjustable daggerboards or centerboards, so they should have raised it almost clear when they started surfing and then luff the sails. Treat the boat like a big surfboard instead of actually trying to sail it in. The reason it capsized the first time was because the wave pushed it sideways faster then the centerboard could pass through the water. The only way they could continue sailing in was to keep the waves directly astern and hope you didn't get swamped when the wave broke
@Black this is a bad situation to be in no matter what you do. My method would give them a chance to not capsize. The only way for a small vessel to cross waves like these is to either move at the same speed or faster. The only way for a sailboat to do so if the wind is not cooperating is to abandon powered control and rely only on the waves for propulsion while doing your best to maintain steering control.
@deankruse2891 there is no good wind indicator, but it looks like it is coming from over the cameraman's left shoulder (based on how the other boats are sailing). This should put them at a reach and allow them to luff
