I suggest watering down to 20% for your taste tests. It takes the “alcohol burn” out of the equation and allows you to focus on the flavour

Was it your "aggressive" cuts that made the difference?

Yes, I was collecting tails. Didn’t have the “nose” to detect the tails. Now I can tell straight away. Thanks for watching

I'd imagine a packed section on top of your 6 plates would help boost up the 7-8% of Neutral you end up keeping. It would also boost that abv up to 96% as well. Only an extra $350 or so, so worth the investment I reckon.

Thanks for that suggestion. Nick

Premium vodkas like Belvedere and Grey Goose are industrially-distilled to very tight specifications as well, and they’re easier to buy than ENA

Don’t forget sodium carbonate in you stripped low wines (neutral only), that makes a huuuuuge difference to your hearts cut.

What was the ABV of the starting wash 8% ? and what do you do with the remaining wash? after your 8 litres ( guessing at 95%) do you do a stripping run and re-run it? Then grab the 95% again?
@distillinginaustralia3257
@distillinginaustralia3257 Год назад
Starting sg was 1.07 so 10% ish. I run it once collect 8 Lt hearts keep cuts and add heads/tails to next run.

Do you use a defrag?
@MasterDistiller

Hi Greg, yes I have a deflag.
@gregryland1387
@gregryland1387 Год назад
@@MasterDistiller Do you use the defrag to compress original tails? eg after say 7 litres ( in your talk) I would compress tails for say 30 mins to squeeze a few more litres at 95% out of Hearts. Also what do you run your tails down to?
@distillinginaustralia3257
@distillinginaustralia3257 Год назад
@@gregryland1387 i run tails down to 85% then shut down. Really can't see the benefit in taking off any more tails. I find the quality drops off significantly after about 7-8 litres. I do make lots of 500ml cuts at heads and tails and then go back the next day to determine what I keep and what I will re run in the next batch
