I don't want this to come off as this monitor not being a beast because it 100% is, but according to my testing, using DSC compression slows down alt-tabbing significantly. Even with HDMI 2.1 you're at 41.92 Gbit/s and the data rate without DSC compression requires around 56 Gbit/s to even manage 1440p 480 Hz so yes as already mentioned, you'd be forced to use DSC. I feel like that is a huge turn-off for me which is why I ended up going with the Asus 1440p 240 Hz version at 8 Bpc color depth since Displayport 1.3 and above handles it without DSC compression. But again, if you don't mind alt-tabbing being slower then it's absolutely a killer monitor with great features. The point with this comment was to simply share my findings after researching why alt-tabs were so slow for me. Edit: The easiest solution is of course to avoid Exclusive Fullscreen and run Fullscreen Windowed although I can't guarantee if that's going to affect input lag and you'd be forced to run the game on native res.
@@CriminalGameplay Sure, that works, but for competitive FPS games like CS2, which this type of monitor is primarily designed for, not using exclusive fullscreen can significantly increase input lag.
You will probably lose some features but I bet it is possible to set this monitor to run at 1440p 360hz 10bit without DSC when using HDMI 2.1 and 1440p 430hz 8 bit without DSC. All you would have to do is download Custom Resolution Utility and make that resolution.
@@bigpoint58 Not too bad, I was expecting 1200 € or more especially for the Asus model. Kinda wanna just order now, or wait and hope it's 900-1000 € for BF sale.
Dude your videos never miss! You're the only person who clearly touched on ELMB vs ULMB2 and explained it perfectly. I am currently running a PG27AQN 360HZ with ULMB2 and I love it. Seeing if this is a worthy upgrade for me. I am extremely sensitive to text fringing and have returned two previous gen 27" OLEDs from ASUS because of that. This might be the one.... Thanks brother! 🍻
Been waiting since they announced this monitor at CES for it's drop, thank you so much for the great review. As I mostly play games that could definitely push 480hz (some not even in naitive resolutions) it definitely seems like my next (and hopefully endgame) monitor, providing the prices are as expected.
Cannot tell you how much I have been waiting for this screen. Awesome review as usual. Really interested if you will talk about the Extreme Keyboard and Mouse from ROG, which seem way too expensive?
7:37 Great video!. But let me tell you, CRT's back then had 300hz refresh rate and we played games at 60 up to 100 fps at that time. It doesnt matter if you hit 480 Fps or not, its All about Clarity performance on motion. Competitive FPS will Know...
You're so wrong. If you are only putting 60 frames into a CRT the only thing you're getting is less flicker at those higher refresh rates and a bit less input lag with severely diminished resolution for a crt to push to 300hz.
@@StevoHDAof course you need to have a PC that pushes at least 240hz on this monitor. What I was trying to say is, you dont need to have constant 480 FPS in order to enjoy/appreciate the motion clarity on the monitor.
Stay Up! Adding this in for those that are sad we missed it. Thanks Mr. Seed great video, have my EYE on this bad boy have a gen1 Asus G Sync monitor that is really showing it's age!
I bought the 240hz 1440p lg woled when it first came out, open box for 800. im super happy with my purchase ofc but damn its crazy how far its come in 2~ years.
Im glad to see its WOLED with a matte finish because that means its just like the PG27AQDM which i own currently but with 2× the refresh rate and thats exactly what I want. The PG27AQDM has been the best monitor I've ever owned so I wouldn't want to make changes to it aside from it just being faster. I'll be buying the PG27AQDP as soon as it hits shelves. I've been patiently waiting for this one. This is my end game monitor. I will likely be keeping this one for the next 4-5 years.
@@RaffaeloVAL nobody mention this in the review thanks you just made it easier for me I am going with that just because I still game at 4k sometimes and the lg model can't run vrr at 1080p 480hz mode
Logically speaking the dual mode monitor should have 1080p 240hz bfi, it's an arbitrary limitation by Asus. At least they are doing BFI unlike other useless companies excluding such useful features.
24.5 inch 1080p monitors are not only used for the refresh rate but the size and altho a niche market it’s still relevant and Oled 24.5”1080p high refresh rate monitor it missing from the market and I’m sure they can find some off cuts to make this happen
nah man , i used 1080p 24.5 for 10+ years and once i went to 26.5 1440p i couldn’t believe i didn’t do it sooner, i was so pissed. 1440p is so much better then 1080p its not even worth considering; especially since 1080p does not even use your GPU so you hardly even get much more FPS compared to 1440p
I'm still loving the idea of gaming on OLED, but I'm trying to wait another year and see if prices go down substantially or if anything else exciting shows up. Still enjoying the awesome videos!
Just ordered one today :) Was on the fence about going for a 360Hz OD-OLED and then saw my local store had this Asus 27" 1440P 480Hz listed. It arrives next week and will be the perfect addition for my recent 7800X3d RTX4090 build. The Asus PG27AQDP will replace my current main monitor which is the LG 32GQ850-B as I find 32" at 1440P is just too big for competitive FPS and I'm able to play much better on monitors sized between 24 and 27" Currently using Acer Nitro VG240YS 165Hz as my secondary display to play Warzone until the Asus arrives.
I had this argument with someone just last year or the year before, that monitors won't get much higher than 240hz. Dude, we ain't stopping til AT LEAST 1000hz.
That’s the monitor I have now and it’s the best I’ve ever used for gaming (the ppi doesn’t bother me). But I’m considering upgrading to this one just for the 480hz
To think how many years it took us from 120hz to 240 and 360 after that for LCD. And now Oleds are smashing them we just got a 240hz oled a year ago and now we already doubled it. The place we're heading in the next 5 years will be special!
What W-OLED monitors are coming out with the new sub-pixel layout? I'm 100% holding off for that, because I want the monitor to be a daily driver for everything. Also, your review was extremely helpful and on point.
Toh I just got the XG27AQDMG this month, and it's more than I'll ever need, it's literally the same monitor but 240hz for only $699 and I’m very happy!
No, it's not! Xgdmg has terrible text clarity. The nice gloss panel is nice, but getting eye stains or headaches due to blurriness of text is a horrible experience.
I can only imagine how super responsive it is! Playing on 480 Hz has got to feel like that you're superior by having the upper hand advantage competing against other players.
@@focusbreezy250dude it’s worth going to a 240hz 1440p oled. let alone a 480hz 1440p. you will not regret it at all. i went from the Strix 360hz IPS 1440p to the 240hz strix OLED and its seriously the best purchase ive done in awhile, i cant wait to get the 480hz one day. i wish they made a 4k screen at 27inch, 32inch is just way too big
Perfect review. I would probably get something like this with enougy money (lol). It very versatile with super high fps without dropping the resolution. That can go past gaming, to web scrolling, and video editing somewhat.
Good review. Im picky for monitor reviews, yours are good. I'll wait for the inevitable price drop and glossy ver. I'm also surprised "the finals" is never talked about, it's an amazing fps, it's all i play - it can reach 540fps on 13700k
Thanks! I liked The Finals a lot, but I dropped off of it shortly after it launched. Felt like you really needed a tight squad. I didn’t fare very well just dropping in solo.
@@badseedtechi know these days the player count might be small in comparison, but i find matches instantly every hour of the day. I play both solo and with groups and both are very good tbh. The ping wheel is very useful. The game feels like a breath of fresh air. And it constantly gets updated. You should try it if haven't played it for a while. ❤
Great to see they improved the pixel scaling but another reviewer pointed out it was still blurry (compared to what native should be). Another issue is that the 24.5″ simulated mode also apparently added 3ms of input lag - Any chance you can verify whether it adds input lag or not ?
What would you even be future proofing? Most games can't hit 480 fps because they are limited either by the cpu and/or the engine itself. 5 years from now you're not going to be playing PT cyberpunk or alan wake 2 at 480 fps. The types of games that will be running at 480 fps 5 years from now are extremely likely to be the same games we have now, or the same type of games. The only possible future proofing argument i could see being made is if frame generation techniques start generating multiple intermediate frames (dlss frame gen is already technically capable of generating 2 frames, it just isn't being done). I personally think that is the future we are heading towards, but who knows when that will be common-place.
The 4K 240hz dual mode is better future proofing if you don't mind matte. Non-competitve games will never hit 480hz no matter what black magic Intel and AMD do, which GPUs are making higher resolution more accessible each year.
Ik its small but i like that these monitors now are 26.5 inch not the full 27 inch as someone who sits a little close for 27in but finds the 24.5in panel of "25 inch" screens too small. It's also a bit more suited to competitive games
It's solid, I prefer the 4K dual-mode one. But, what we need to see is proper BFI integration, was bummed that PG32UCDP couldn't at least do 240Hz BFI in DFR mode.
@@paranoid1987 when did u order it and how long did it take to arrive, I ordered mine nearly a week ago and it says arriving 22 October - 30 November and I’m already tired of waiting!
I understand that input latency differences are usually negligible, but given the quirks of alt-tabbing and with Nvidia features disabled, I was hoping that this display would support DP 2.1. I'm assuming the upcoming 5000 series from Nvidia will support DP 2.1. It doesn't appear that the this model has MediaTek's new G-Sync scaler. I'm curious if any of the upcoming 480Hz WOLED variants will have DP 2.1 or the new MediaTek G-Sync scaler. Does a dedicated G-Sync module (or the new MediaTek G-Sync scaler) bring any benefits to OLED monitors? With LCD we'd see variable overdrive, any benefits for OLEDs? Also curious for those that hate DSC from a performance perspective to see benchmarks or data supporting that. I don't disregard it, but I think BadSeed has measured it on/off before with no difference.
Hello, nice review, i just upgrade from 144hz monitor to pg27aqdp and there are no words, the monitor is just awesome. I would like to know the 6:35 wallpaper name or from where i can download it ?
Hey there, firstly congrats on the monitor. 480 is really something you have to see to believe- especially coming from 144hz. That wallpaper is from Wallpaper Engine in steam. Its called like “cyberpunk city apartment” or something close but its almost always in the Top Rated list.
PLEASE review the new MSI MPG 271QRX monitor. Im so torn on which oled to get and that one at the moment is my top pick but would love to see your thoughts on it!
The new ASUS PG27AQDP 480Hz is using new MLA+ panel tech with improved sub pixel layout from LG Display. This gives an average typical brightness of 275 Nits - 1300 Nits peak. The PG27AQDM is using a previous Generation LG Display panel and ASUS have it configured to give 240 Nits typical brightness up to 1000 Nits peak.. The PG27AQDM is still an excellent choice if you do not need 480Hz or HDMI 2.1 and can get it considerably cheaper.
Something I would like to see in your reviews, can the ai gaming features be used with a console? Personally the only one I would want is the crosshairs. I feel like I get better hipfire in fps games using a static crosshair versus the one in game that shakes and usually stretches out to account for the recoil. And with one of the new features being a crosshair that adapts its color to what’s on screen I’m excited to upgrade my monitor experience to 4k @ 120hz on a monitor with hdmi 2.1.
is the text clarity sharper on this new gen WOLED or still IPS 1440 27 inch text is sharper? cus to be honest, i own 27 inch IPS 1440 right now and even on this i find the text not sharp, so if i go with this oled and if the text even worse compared to IPS, will i regret? or should i just go with 32 inch oled for text clarity?
This is almost my dream monitor, I wish they could have added DP2.1 though. Surely it wouldn't have added that much to the price and this late in the product cycle we're actually going to have Nvidia cards that will support it aswell as AMD. So why? I guess next years updated model will have it as a selling point maybe?
Just shows how good backlight strobing on LCDs is. Yes, OLED gets similar motion clarity if it runs at like 480fps or 240fps with black frame insertion. But LCDs can get that kind of motion clarity at like 120fps (of course without the smoothness of higher fps), which makes it more viable in a lot more games. This is also why VR with strobed LCD screens has so much better motion clarity than VR with OLED screens. MiniLED is the future. OLED is just a stepping stone
No. MicroLED is the future, not MiniLED which exists already. And NO, watch blurbuster videos or RTINGs test. There is no way an LCD with 120 HZ is better than OLED with 240 hz strobing. There are miles apart. 240 HZ strobed vs 240 Oled the oleds STILL wins by miles.
@@1mm0r74l MiniLED will surpass OLED before MicroLED becomes mainstream No, LCD with strobing DO get better motion clarity than OLEDs. Blutbusters have lots of content on this topic. Do some research
@@Violet-uiwell, I did my research, but you didn't. You are still spreading false information. Oled is much faster, much better response time and much better motion clarity when running at the same hz as LCD. When running the same hz strobe VS bfi then oled is MILES ahead. Mini led is just the backlight, the panel in front of it is still LCD tech and much slower as well. Again, do some better research.
Do you happen to know why ELMB locks aspect control? They are completely unrelated features and I bet a lot of people would want to run them together, so why limit it that way?
You wouldn't. DSC is one of those IYKYK things, doesn't bother most people. I break it down pretty easy in the video I just released about the Sony INZONE M10S monitor.
I'm so ready to pull a trigger on an OLED. I'd DSC that bad? I've been told to use these new Oleds with hdmi2:1. Is this true.? I main csgo spots time to upgrade my Zowie . There is still just a few things I am worried about
Do we need an NVIDIA GPU to run ELMB correctly like the PG248QP or PG27AQN? Or we can enable it perfectly on AMD even if the PC doesn’t always achieve 240hz ?
@@badseedtech That sounds great, i bought a G6 G60SD 1440p 360hz oled recently for 760 euros, perfect for my 6900xt in CS2. Im from Europe so the prices are different, seems like all OLEDs are going down in price quite nicely, wouldnt be supprised to see 240hz oled for 500 euro soon.
I'm ready for this, 5090, Core 285K, 48GB 8600mhz, and whatever the fastest 5.0 M.2 is here around Oct-Jan. Man oh man. My wallet is ready, and I couldn't care less.
Since I'm not a competitive player (well, Tarkov is very competitive, but not in that kind of way haha), there's absolutely no reason for refresh rates this high for me. I'd rather enjoy higher resolutions, ray tracing and other eye candy.
@@badseedtech Thanks! I’m going to try pick up both eventually.. For the 1440p480 do you know if the 4080 Super can run this easily? I’m trying to find the lowest cost GPU that can support this monitor. Also, do you recommend attempting to build a PC yourself rather than a third party company?
i have a question, at these high frame rates (165-480hz) do we really need Gsync/freesync? say your fps hovering around 80-90% of your mointor refresh rate. say you have 240hz moinotor ( or elmb enabled to increase motion clairty ) and the game fps hovering in range of 180-220 would we need gsync or do we have ANY benefit for gsync in this case? we wont get tearing, so whats benefit of it in this case?
Just got the 240hz version a couple of months ago, sitting with a feeling that I should have waited, but I am playing warzone, even on my specked out out 4090 pc, I am getting around 300 hz, so I don’t know if it would make a difference to have waited, I think the 240 version is really good tho
I cant decide between this monitor and the dual modes 4k 240hz/1080p 4080hz. I mostly play shooters so I will want high FPS, but running a 4090rtx I think maybe it would be a shame to have this kind of GPU without the option of 4k, as I do sometimes play solo games where that could be useful. I am also wondering if the drop to 1080p is a bit harsh at 480hz, especially on a 32". Is the difference between 4k 240hz and 1440p noticeable ? And how noticeable is the difference between 1080p and 1440p at 480hz ? Thanks for the help !
For me it came down to text clarity. At 2k reso the clarity was bad! I'm not sure how good the text clarity will be on the new 2k reso woled. But I know on the 4k ucdp it's very good! I returned the ucdm xgaqdmg and kept the ucdp. The 480 dual mode can be cropped to 27 or 24 inch. You aren't stuck at 32 1080p.
