48th Highlanders of Canada Journey to World War II 1939 - 1940 for Remembrance Day 2010 

How awesome! My grandfather is in a picture at about 1:50. Farthest to the left sitting on a table. I recognize him like it was yesterday.

I'm 90%+ that "Handsome young chap" at 1:56 is my grandfather. He went on to fight in Italy and then helped to liberate Holland. After he went on to live a pretty simple life. Got married, had 3 kids. One of whom grew up to become my mother. *Dileas gu brath!*. Thanks Grandpa ☺️

I always look for my dad every time I see pictures of the 48th.

VERY touching and VERY moving! My Grandfather who passed away early this year, was a part of these very brave gentlemen. If anyone has any information of a MacDoe Robert Hay, he went by his middle name, and hated his first name.

I always think of my dad around Nov 11- he joined this regiment when he was a young kid of 17 along with his brothers to head over to fight in WW2- our family was very blessed as all the brothers came home alive -they have since passed away but we still remember.......

up date ! Watched the film again and spotted a closeup shot of him about half way through looks like a lifeboat drill of preparing to disembark . Fantastic shot !

I have a picture of my Father Jack Corbett as the train left Sunnyside this is great to see the rest of the trip . Didn't spot him in any of the pictures though .

My father Albert (Bert) Hendry was with the 1st battalion that went overseas dec 1939. I don't see him in these photos. I'm trying to find out what the name of the ship that took them. He was 19. He told me enough times but I've forgotten. He was blown up in a mine field in Littlehampton England on a training exercise. He was 21. 4 men died. He survived with a fused leg; the blast destroyed his knee. The army courts declared it an accident. The officers should have been charged with negligence for ordering them into a live mine field.

Yes, and worse, the Canadian were volunteers as they were not directly concerned by the German invasion of western Europe, so they were not bound to enlist under UK flag, and thus could have ignored the conflict, but they came They made great deeds, among which the 1942 commando raid on Dieppe,led by Simon Fraser lord Lovat, in northern Normandy which was to be a disaster I believe that those boys and men should deserve better gratitude

its too bad such a historic unit is relegated to being a reserve unit.
