I want to give HUGE kudo's to Trophy batteries! I got 6x batteries based on Will's previous videos and after talking with Dan. My batteries were shipped and unfortunately 2 of them were damaged in shipping. He was already coming my way and Dan literally drove 8 hours in his personal vehicle (2 hours out of his way each way) and hand delivered replacement batteries to me! I was blown away by this level of customer service. Absolutely, hands down the best customer service in my entire life!!! Cannot say enough good things about this company. Absolutely agree with everything you said. I bought these. Completely happy. Dan is a really nice guy. My only wish is that the front switch was in the middle under the screen. The only reason is that I use a bus bar, and the switch gets in the way a bit. I would also like the terminal screws to be a half inch longer for my thicker bus bar. I don’t think that would be a problem for the way most people do it.

One thing I do wish battery makers would do more are 12V batteries with the same features as these rack mounts: On off button, Pre-charge Resistors, built in SOC meters. I think EG4 has 1 that is 12V like this, but no one else. It would make creating small electricity back up systems SO much easier.
@Aerogrow
@Aerogrow Год назад
The issue is the lower voltages require much higher current; which means larger conductor sizes to handle the amperage load. Stuff gets pricey when you start adding components for 12V high amperage; your total build for amount of watt hours prices you out the market.

@@Aerogrowthat may be a “fact” - 12V is needing larger cabling per 1000W all else being equal. But a couple feet of heavy cable isn’t going to mean you have to sell one of the kids or something. Sometimes 12V is handy or like with an RV necessary.

As a FYI, those are five of the 304Ah Trophy batteries, which I built an insulated box around, as these are used in an unheated shed at 9300 feet altitude in the mountains of Colorado. So yes, it does get cold here. As for communication with Victron gear. So far Dan and I have not been able to get the 304Ah to talk to my Victron Cerbo GX unfortunately. $1000 per Kwh.....the BattleBorn of large LiFeP04 batteries. The name of the game is $300 per Kwh. Raw 280Ah LiFeP04 cells come out at $120 per Kwh when you buy 16 of them. Not EV grade so this is where the price point Trophy is at makes sense. I guess there's a market for Discovery AES though

The 10 year non-prorated warranty is a very good selling point. Also considering some of the better batteries are 48v 100ah at about $2400 compared to Trophy 48v 304ah at $4600. Which makes Trophy more economical.

Hi Will! I’ve started to watch your videos a few months ago. Thanks a lot for your daily effort to bring us always new and relevant information! I’m from Portugal and most of the times my struggle is to find a vendor who ships to europe/Portugal. My goal is to design a system for my future house, that would use most of the time energy from photovoltaic panels / batteries to support all the loads and only get from grid the delta energy. So I would apreciate a video taking this in consideration.

One of the things I like about these is they're a standard rack unit height (the 220Ah one is 5RU according to their manual) and it looks like the mounting holes in the front panel are at standard spacing. Most of the other rack batteries AREN'T a standard size. It is a pity they aren't UL certified though.

I bought a Trophy battery specifically for the convenience of internal heaters. Note that the heaters are not manually operated. The heaters work automatically and only when charging power is available. The heaters do not operate on stored energy so they will not drain the battery. My battery is in an unheated shed and it has done pretty well as long as the sun cooperates. I actually used the crate it was shipped in as an insulated rack. The % state of charge does not seem accurate. I was at 39% and I plugged in my 500 watt block heater for my truck for an hour and a half and found the battery went into safe mode due to under voltage. By my math it should have had something left. It was -20F so I guess that had something to do with it. Also I haven't found a way to get it to communicate with my Growatt inverter, but it works OK as a dumb battery. It works fine and it has been idiot proof so far.

Sup Will, just wondering if at a later date coving subjects like GFCI protection devices, SPD’s and wiring equipment. It’s not a very sexy topic I admit, but I’d love to hear your take on the subject at some point. Love the channel btw!

I have 3 of the 100ah batteries. They are mounted in my unheated shed in northern lower Michigan.I have had these since June and my only issue is some sort of remote state of charge as I have an Outback system an have struggled with consistent automation of my generator (worked perfectly with my AGMs). I would love a video talking about options for remote state of charge as no one seems to want to give me suggestions. Through many phone calls it seems to be an issue not quite dealt with yet! These batteries are incredible!!!!

Couldn’t agree more. I would love if someone would do a video about how to charge these batteries if solar panels aren’t hooked up and you are off grid.

@@bigbad27 I have solar array also……. the generator is backup for long stretches of over cast. The solar panels charge these batteries shockingly fast! 😉

I couldn't get my Trophy battery to communicate with my Growatt inverter. If works ok, but it might work better if I could figure out the communication. Mine is also in an unheated shed.

I have an Outback system my system will not communicate with these either. It would be AWSOME to have a stand alone state of charge display that connects with RJ45 jacks just for peace of mind. By the way made it thru a northern Michigan winter and the internal heaters worked perfectly! 😎🥶

I prefer the DeWalt storage rack over a server rack. I find that the steel used on the bolt rails is too thin and you need to use a rack with rear rails as well. One needs to create a shelf between the front and rear supports and slide the packs onto the shelves. Get too high and you need to bolt the server rack to the floor and wall. You also need a safe lifting device to get packs into place.

hi Will, please consider doing a review on the Mango Power e portable whole house backup system - it has gotten a lot of positive reviews from many RU-vid reviewers, but we would like to hear your honest and unbiased review.

Hello Will, Love the videos, been watching for years. Thank you. Would you recommend a Trophy rack battery for van use? (w/ Victron inverter (with shore power switching a nd battery charging from mains)? also a Victron solar charge controller, with the 900watts of panels on the roof already? and how would you address charging from alternator when van is running? Would I be able to charge from an EV car charging station? thx again. Matt

Around the 13min mark you state these are EV grade UL Listed but earlier I thought you said they were not UL listed which may prohibit grid interaction. Are you referring to the cells that are UL listed but the server rack units are not UL listed? Thanks (Awesome videos, keep up the great work)

Hy Will, been watching and following your videos for past couple of years since I picked up an ista breeze heli 4.0kw turbine. Since then I've been gathering parts I thought I needed, starting with a 48v dc out 5kw turbine controller. I added a couple of hybrid powmr 5.5kw inverters to run in parallel mode with two seperate 48v 15kwh lithium batteries. I also have 10x450w bifacial panels which I intended to run in two strings, one to each inverter. I would love to hear your thoughts on connecting the 48v dc from turbine controller to the batteries which would be in parallel with the inverters. Powmr say that I will run into trouble...I had hoped to run the mppt charge points from the inverters marginally higher than the turbine controller battery settings. I could run the output from the turbine controller to a seperate inverter and run that AC to the parallel inverters as a "grid input" (system is for off-grid use). Great clear informative information on your channel, congrats

Do you ever try the communication ports? Would be interested in knowing if the communicate with a Victorian controller so it knows the state of charge and can provide the proper charging profile

Hi Will, do you have any info on how these work with one of the EG4 3kW Off-Grid Inverter | 3000EHV-48? I purchased one of their 100 AH batteries to use with the EG4 inverter. Thanks in advance and Happy New Year

When the battery is oriented vertically, I would expect large tension/compression loads on the welded bus bars. Either slightly long or slightly short. The weight/ moment arm of those heavy cells on the bus bar will eventually cause fatigue. Or with small expansion/ contraction of the cells in normal use.

Yeah this was my concern a few years ago and then we talked to the manufacturers and said it's totally fine. If it breaks within 10 years then you get a brand new one. If you saw what I do to my batteries, I think it's safe to say that it can handle it haha

Will, I use 4" long sections of electrical heat shrink tubing to protect disconnected battery cables. I tape up one end of the tube with electrical tape, leave one end open to slide in the lug. I use tubing that is a snug fit so it cannot just slide off. I figure if it is safe enough to use on electrical connections, it should be safe to use as insulation when disconnecting batteries.

Quick Question Can the different capacity unit be paralleled together. The website says qty 10 can be paralleled. So if I can buy the larger one now but need to add over time with a smaller capacity, do you see any issue with that?
