"The fact is this place belongs to Hawaiians and you folks are guilty of desecration."
Throwback Thursday: In 1983 Haunani-Kay Trask appeared on the local Dialogue television series where she spoke against recent archaeological explorations of Hawaiian caves and burial sites in Puna. Here she again provides a thorough critical analysis of the situation, reminding foreign trained archeologists that we, Kānaka ʻŌiwi, should always be the ones to determine what happens to the bones and burial sites of our ancestors.

Back before even had one Hawaiian Studies department. So eff-ed up... She must have felt so much pain being referred to an American studies faculty before they fought and won our own department.

This happened to our Tipuna back in the 1930’s. Despite them being returned a few years back, the pain, maimai, is still there. We shouldn’t have to ‘partner’ with a university to be Nga kitiaki of our people and hitori.

I hope someone carries her legacy and continue to fight for native rights in Hawaii. How about start separating themselves from Europeans. Make Hawaii their own sovereign island like they use to be

She was kumu to many, her legacy lives on through them and has for some time now prior to her unfortunate passing. We do not need to be sovereign again because we never ceased being sovereign. We achieved international sovereign recognition in 1843 and that sovereignty was never relinquished, therefore we continue to be a sovereign nation, albeit OCCUPIED by the US. The only way to annex us would have been through a treaty of annexation wherein we relinquished our sovereignty to a foreign country, no such treaty exists. The US claims to have annexed us through a joint resolution which is an act of US congress, its domestic US law… which has no power or jurisdiction beyond the borders of the US and therefore cannot annex a foreign country. It’s not Europeans who we must distance ourselves from, but rather Americans, or more so to the point it is AMERICANS who are legally obligated to distance themselves from HAWAIIANS. As in accordance to International Law Article 49 of GCIV _”The Occupying Power shall not deport or transfer parts of its own civilian population into the territory it occupies.”_ , meaning every single American who has entered our occupied Kingdom since 1-16-1893 did so illegally. They aren’t supposed to be allowed here… let alone living here and participating in violating further international laws.

@@The.Hawaiian.Kingdom 💯❗️ The legal Presumption of sovereignty is with the (still existing in continuity) Hawaiian Kingdom, the USA has the burden to prove otherwise. Without a treaty, they have nothing!

Hi, I noticed you have a lot of videos of Haunani Kay Trask. Do you happen to have that clip where she defends her poetry with the statement "better violent words than violent actions" are you familiar with this interview? I saw it in the late 90's early 2000s but can't find the clip in 2020!

Its Sad that we still battle this issue till today "TMT" and that's because nothing has been resolved between America and Hawai'i other than an apology made by America through US President Bill Clinton in 1993 but that was it. There was no discussion on the Issue just continue as if an apology was enough. America just acknowledged their faults in front of the world and there was no attempt to restore Hawai'i Kingdom. That's like if you crash your car into someone's else's car got out of your car and said hey I'm sorry to the other guy and jump back into your car and dug out before talking about insurance/ how you gonna pay for the damage. 132 years from today America still did not resolve this problem.

Just visited a couple islands and all the locals made it real clear tourists, "mainlanders," and some other names I can't recall aren't welcome. From the bumper stickers to the billboards to the loudspeakers on the beaches chanting, "we aren't American," and "F#@K the white man," infront of everyone's children it was a pretty clear how they felt. Naturally I wanted to learn why they felt that way but for fear of my life I didn't dare speak to a local and ask them to educate me. The protest agitator on the loud speaker seemed very knowledgeable but given she was encouraging the crowd of locals to become violent against the tourists enjoying a beautiful day on the beach as a means of returning Hawaii's sovereignty, I felt it wouldn't a good time to learn either. This is how I have come across this video and videos like it. Thank you for the enlightenment! I will use this in conjunction with how we were treated by the locals during our trip to educate my children, friends, and family on how America stole Hawaii and why we should not trespass by visiting the islands. I find it imperative to return Hawaii's sovereignty and in accordance with the locals wishes my family and I will never again return to Hawaii. I will further assist Hawaiians by passing along this history lesson to all my friends and family in an effort to help them respect the people of Hawaii by no longer imposing on their home and land.
