TVS diodes are used in circuits to protect against over-voltage surges and the effects of arcs, EFT (Electrical Fast Transients), ESD (Electrostatic Discharge), inductive load switching, and even lightning strikes.
These components are advantageous compared to standard diodes as they feature a bigger P-N junction cross-sectional area. This larger design means that TVS diodes can conduct greater currents to the ground safely, minimising the potential for harm. They also offer a speedy reaction to high transient spikes, quickly working to suppress the Voltage and ensure circuits are protected.

as P6KE12CA is bidirectional TVS is 600W have peak puls power and 5 watt power dissipation it have clamping current at 16.7V 36Ampere for less than 10mSec at 21.7v 184 ampere for 8/20 msec

I could use some advice, if you’re willing. The old telegraph system used one conductor with an earth ground along with a local battery at each office/station. I have 2 telegraph keys and 2 sounders. In my test model I’ve wired sounder to key, then key to battery (-) and battery (+) to 2nd sounder. Next, I wired the two sounders together to complete the circuit. With about 1.5v the remote sounder works without energizing the local sounder. It works great, but is one-directional. Now, I want to add the second telegraph key and battery in reverse, using the same wire, just like in the old days. My guess is that I will need to bypass each respective key and battery and will need at least one diode at each station. But I know nothing of what I’m doing so I don’t know what I really need. The resistance of both sounders is 4 Ohms. Any suggestions?

Hola, gracias por la explicación del problema de una aire marca Samsung inverter con F1,F2 bueno con el concejo suyo señor el diodo tv's me da una resistencia alta bueno,el problema no era por allí me doy cuenta que el integrado vp 3082 está en corto me da continuidad entre vcc y masa gracias me sirvió para resolver problemas de comunicación

TVS is ust a safety. it will work in abnormal condition when the voltage will increase otherwise TVS, thermistor, voltage arrestor, lightenning arrestor will remian silent

Hola tengo un problema con una tarjeta Samsung inverter que me da error de comunicación parece con f1,f2 estube investigando parece que son 2diodos tvs que estan en corto pero los mios no marcan nada ,como puedo medir estos diodos con un tester, gracias

Good morning dear. if TVS didoe gives open circuit indication on multimeter, then it will good, the most common problem of TVS diode is "short circuit". it high resistance in "diode mode" or "resistance test mode" on multimeter, will indicate that the TVS didoe is working normal. if you want to test it practically, then check datasheet of the TVS diode for ""CLAMPING VOLTAGE" and the you will need that volatge to be applied to TVS diode

So where are main differents between transil/TVS and zener diodes? btw. I completly don't understand what doing transil P6KE200A on the flyback 5VSB transformer circuit with PS1010R diode bcos they are in series to transformer pinouts. I did full reverse this ATX power supply, but dont understand some electrical technics used in this one.

I have a Shower Heater-Unit with adjustable power control (potentiometer) that was given to me by my neighbor to fix and keep for myself, and after dismantling it I found on the control PCB a bidirectional diode with such electrolysis damage on it which dissolved both of its terminals and it was hanging at its place on the board by the rust (the symbol on the PCB is for a BTVS). I have tryed to put solder at the two ends to attach new terminals to it so I can reconnect it in its place but they will not stick. There are no service manuals for this unit I could find by searching on Google and I am wondering how to fix this unit without knowing the part number or the clamping voltage of the diode (since there are no terminals left sticking out from the two ends). The diode itself is a pink glass type with the "cathode" black band in the middle and D8 is written on it. The diode also is not clamping anything in parallel (as in the case you describe to protect something from overvoltage on the board). Instead is connected in series to the gate of a small triack on the board (0107MA - To92) and to some other point on the board. The triack is probably driving an even bigger (high power) semiconductor that controls the heating element current and which is attached directly to the water heating unit (probably for heating cooling issues) and it is not on the control board. Any Ideas on how to attach terminals to this diode? What is the range of or typical clumping voltages for these diodes? As a last resort to salvage this diode I was thinking if it is a good idea to use electrolysis and grow new copper terminals at the two ends if I immerse the one end of the diode in the solution and put a needle/ pin with some high enough voltage to make the diode conducting current and start the deposition of the metal at the other end, then if it succeeds flip the diode and repeat.
