The turning point in the game happened in the third quarter. The 49ers received to start the half and had to settle for a field goal. Really needing a TD they had to kick the field goal. Lions get the ball and with under 8 minutes left in the 3rd instead of kicking a matching field goal they went for it on 4th down. I TRULY BELIEVE THAT IF LIONS KICK A FIELD GOAL ITS BACK TO THE SAME 17 POINT LEAD FROM THE HALF. The Niners would have played half the 3rd and made no progress on the deficit. A crushing series of events. But they take the ball down after the failed 4th down and score a TD. The momentum shifted and the rest is history.
