@paulgaither I hope the talk with Joe Montana helped him, just distribute the ball to your play makers, that is the job, don't go out and play hero ball. He's not at Iowa State anymore, he's on one of the most decorated franchises with one of the best play callers if not the best play caller in the game, on a team built for this.

Someone has been watching JT's videos. One thing about the bumper motion, doing it that way preserves the look they get on defense but also causes a defender to shift to a wider position. This is the rub between play-designer and play-executor. As a designer, Shanahan isn't concerned about CMC not being as deep in the pattern if that motion solidified the look he wants for Deebo. He also is doing more 7-step drops because those pass plays used to be play-action, under center drop-backs. Not sure if JT is noting that everytime or not. So, to maintain the timing of the drop, it has to be a 7-step drop but it allows Purdy to see the field during the whole drop.

@@jonnydel He's not wrong. The problem is at this point in the season teams realize you're doing it to keep the defense from treating it as an empty backfield. As well, some of the plays they utilize it in it just doesn't make sense (having him run a slant behind Aiyuk taking him right into the trailing LB) and makes him more easily covered because he's so far back. More importantly, when you do that with arguably the best player on the field you're taking him out of the play most of the time.
