Taking a look at how the San Francisco 49ers are the best defense in the league. Scheme and execution have come together to form a formidable unit. / jonnydels www.patreon.com/user?u=19176394 paypal.me/JonnydelsFA?country...
Yet another superb breakdown. As a 49ers fan from Scotland that didn't grow up watching/playing the sport, I can't express enough how helpful your videos are in helping me understand the sport at a deeper level.
@@jonnydel No, thank you for the time and effort you put in to educate us all. I'm absolutely sure you have a deeper understanding of the game than most of your compatriots who have had the luxury of growining up with the game. I'm embarassed to ask for something that would add to your workload...but would you consider a pre-game analysis? I'd be fascinated to see each week, the tactical match-ups. Sunday is going to be an absolute exhibition of American football.
@@Chris-eo5zs if you mean like a game preview where it's explained how the teams match up, the NFL youtube channel posts preview videos for different games. So for example for next week there's a 49ers vs Bucs preview video that gives a rough idea of each team's biggest strengths and weaknesses and how they match up
I feel like Niners are definitely going to be playing this Cover 2 Shell again against the Dolphins so we don't get beat deep by Hill too many times. Nickel defense with Jimmie Ward will probably be the bread and butter. Probably won't blitz much, just get there with front 4.
Bro this was a great breakdown. Seeing them play you can see they are good but watching your breakdown lets us know how special this defense is. Especially missing so many key pieces for several games.
Here as a Niner fan to say we miss Demeco and his presence not only his schemes but the energy he brought to the sideline instead of the booth like Steve Wilks
Thanks for breaking this down my guy. I was able to recognize the cover 4 and cover 2 when I went through the film, but your explanation on how they convert their coverages mid play makes so much sense
Bravo! No shock to see such quality and high level of detail coming from the Johnnydel's. I truly appreciate the time and effort you devote to this. People who appreciate the game of football, not solely the Niners, I'm sure would devour this stuff with glee. Looking forward to more next week, which, should be interesting.
Any given Sunday, but yes, our defense in theory should understand how to stop Kyle/Mike's offense. The speed Miami has is a problem, but so is our pass rush.
Impressive breakdown of that "shark-infested waters" defense! Well done! 👏 👏 showing the lb play and the swarm mentality of this special defense. It really shows the team defensive play. Yet another outstanding video! 👍
Warner and many other players just kinda highlight themselves, they really stick out with how they dedicate to the hussle. I think making the vid more about DM and the defense as a whole works alot better than just focusing on Warner in a vid. Good job, and thanks. =)
I'm my time watching the niners since right when Harbaugh was hired up until now, this is probably the best overall unit I've ever seen. Better than 2019, as well as 2011/12/13. And those were some GREAT defenses. If they keep this up and it ends with #6, they will go down as one of the all time greats
I think the back end is definitely better than Harbaugh's days. But if Harbaugh's O had been anything as productive as Shanny's, that team would've blown out everybody
This was dynamite thank you. Might have to watch it a couple of more times. Feels like Warner thus far is the defensive MVP. I hope he gets 1st Team All Pro this year. Doesn't seem like he's missing as many tackles as he used to. The only glitch for the defense this season has been the Chiefs game, but it's looking more, and more like that was a huge outlier. Even the 1985 Bears had a bad day at the office. Hopefully every stays relatively healthy as the postseason approaches.
Love this content! I think I heard a stat that the 9ers d’s weakness was 3rd and short. Would love to understand where the holes are in those situations.
Why do I get the sense that Mike is going to run a series with Mostert & Wilson in the pony and Sherfield and Craycraft as receivers just to show Kyle he can beat him with the Niners cast-offs?
The Niners got those guys as UDFA’S, got production out of them , and then moved on, even getting a pick for Wilson; they’re castoffs but also positive values
@@OptionZero I know, and McD knows how to get high production out of seemingly lower valued pieces. I just thought it woukd be the most audacious thing to do.
@@jonnydel Totally agree with all of that. We're basically running Vic's back end now. Meco completed the conversion to it, and Robert started it, evolving from the single high Seattle style. IF we get Vic, we will easily have top offensive and defensive coaches in the NFL. Vic will make the defense a lot more multiple and complex and mentally challenging, and get more turnovers, etc. The only controversy is that Vic is a 3-4 guy, but I'm sure he can run 4-3 and wide 9, etc. We are built for speed on defense. Vic's gotta be stoked about the players we have, and would know what to do.
Warner is such a huge piece of the defense. He’s the QB and where he goes, generally the rest of the defense swarms. So the they’re keying off him a lot.
Mike McDaniels and Tua TankforVolia is coming for Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers throne. Can they stand strong against their most mighty foe yet with the franchise on the line?
Our defense is #1 in the league but sadly they will never be at full strength this entire season. I hope we can re-sign Ebukam, Omenihu, Moseley, Al-Shaair, and Ward in the offseason so we can run this team again next year.
You mean Moseley. But yeah. If only every starter played every game every season. It hurt so bad to lose Eman this year, he was playing his best football.
May not of interest but I wonder if a breakdown of the differences among Saleh, DeMeco and Wilks would be interesting. Obviously, we have different personnel but...
My question is do you think they have the personnel to match-up with Miami's speed? Tua's release time rivals JG and that negates the pass rush. I did think that teams would use the Chiefs blueprint to beat SF, but most people don't have the skilled positions to pull that off.
@@gunner-qf9eh Kinlaw and Armstead have been out pretty much the whole year. I think Ward coming back got cooked a few times as well. It was 14-10 at halftime. Without the depth they got gassed for sure.
I have been a diehard 49ers fan for over 30 years. While this defense is statistically awesome I think it’s too early to say it’s an all time great Def or even a championship caliber defense. Mainly because we have played against a lot of mediocre qbs. We played against two teams with elite qbs. The Chiefs destroyed our defense The other team we played with an elite qb was the chargers. But the chargers top 2 or 3 receiving weapons were all out in that game. This week against red hot Tua and the Dolphins will go a long way in showing if this defense is for real or only dominates weak offenses with guys like Colt McCoy and Andy Dalton at qb.
@@gunner-qf9eh The Chargers QB had zero weapons on offense that week so it was worth mentioning. The point is that we have been beating bad teams with mediocre qbs. I pointed out the chargers lack of weapons on offense the week they played us to highlight that despite their elite qb our defense was not tested.
@@gunner-qf9eh Which 49ers defensive starters missed the KC game? The previous week (Falcons) we had a ton of players out but got many of them back vs KC. The pregame injury report listed only Armstead, Ward, and Hufanga. Ward and Hufanga played.
@@gunner-qf9eh All 49ers fans should be concerned that in the 2nd half of the KC game their receivers and Tight ends were consistently wide open by a mile. We were out played and obviously out coached that day. Playing well against Colt McCoy and Andy Dalton doesn’t mean anything. Today against Tua is an opportunity to prove we’re not just getting fat on weak offenses and crap qbs.
I truly believe if moseley was healthy and didn't get hurt, teams would be averaging 10-11 ppg against this defense. They had to switch up the aggressive style of man blitz packages after moseley got hurt.
I see that his scheme has no Nickel packages until third down I mean having 3 linebackers playing downhill in a base defense will give u fits I like it though traditional football and base defense that’s why this defense is so successful
Mmmm, no his nickel is more of a big nickel with Jimmie Ward playing the slot. Has since Emmanuel Moseley went down vs Carolina. Jimmie Ward plays about 70% of the snaps.
