The things that impressed me about Purdy immediately from watching him in the preseason last year were: 1) that he wasn't afraid to make mistakes and 2) that he always seemed to learn quickly from those mistakes. I don't understand why Darnold is so afraid to make mistakes. This was his last best chance to show teams what he was capable of and he and the 49ers really had nothing to lose. I really wanted to see him leave everything on the field. I would have much rather seen him take chances and fail than to not take those chances at all.

Looking forward to this one because while it was like a preseason game I felt like the defense and O-line depth was not where I'd like to see it.

Thanks for doing everything you do, Jonny, and for putting together this vid! Interesting to get a look at some of the backups/folks we don't get a chance to see. "I don't know what Darnold saw that spooked him off his first read"... hate to say this, but... ghosts? Sorry, bad joke, I know, I'll see myself out now. Thanks again!

I hit you up on Twitter about making a video about the game against the Ravens. In all honesty, we looked like the better team and was a little disappointed you didn't go over that game. Regardless, love the videos. Keep it up!!!

Half way in and I don’t see anything to be worried about. Bell is too far back in the depth chart. Darnold is a back up and wasn’t bad at all. Willis is far back in the depth chart. Zone read is hard to stop even for the best defenses, so it’s no surprise the rams had success. Kinlaw is a back up and got way more snaps than he will be getting in the playoffs. Specially now with Day. In fact I see more positives than negatives. Logan Ryan should start at safety. Having Day in there at NT is big. Mitchel and Mason got plenty of snaps to be ready for the playoffs. Got a chance to see Beal get snaps and have some success. Womack got some snaps which is huge in case injury during the playoffs or teams go 4 wide. Basically guys got much needed rest, others got much needed snaps, and got to see two potential new starters this late in the year in Logan and Day at NT. Niners will be coming out of the bye rested, healthy, as deep as they have been all year. Only thing I see as a worry is rust having two bye weeks essentially before a meaningful game.

@armandogarcia1024
@armandogarcia1024 6 месяцев назад
@@levisnyder6585 I honestly think Oliver would be great at Safety! He’s ver atheistic, I love the way he tackles, he goes after runner like a linebacker. And for a DB he sucked at coverage, but having that on a pinch from a safety would be amazing for a Defense. Not sure how well or fast he could transition to safety but that could be huge for his careers moving forward.

To be honest, this is an entiely different game if Moody makes his kicks. Not worried about the O and D except for this. We don't need no kicker meltdown now. I wish they would've been able to let Moody try one more but it is what it is.

Let’s talk about the Bell mishap. Defenders are allowed contact within 5 yards. Ball is snapped at the 30 and contact happens at the 40. I’m no mathematician but 40-30 is 10. Clearly it was illegal contact that should have been called. Even if Bell didn’t play vertical, his whole route is off from illegal contact that needs to be called

Luter has to get better at situational awareness it was 3rd & 17 and there is absolutely nothing to gain by jumping the out route… just gain depth and make the tackle if the short route gets thrown… it reminds me of the play where the Cardinals exploited Ambry Thomas from week 4… that can’t happen

Excellent breakdowns as usual. Thanks Jonny! 3:59 Darnold lacked some touch on the scramble drill throw. That would probably be ok with more playing time. Ronnie needs to play better.

Noticed in the Ravens game that kinlaw failed to play contain and was too intent on getting upfield. Tbf so did Hargrave though. Would like to see the entire front four place an emphasis on playing contain in these upcoming playoffs
@PlaySA
@PlaySA 6 месяцев назад
Yeah it was bad in that game, surprising especially since they had previously played contain very well against mobile quarterbacks. Kinlaw just ain't it imo, he's failed to learn and apply the fundamentals of his position. Can't just get fooled and moved around like that so easily as the 'anchor' of the D line.

Ravens were holding on almost every pass play! Look at tape?
@blacksuburban2410
@blacksuburban2410 6 месяцев назад
Nah, that was actually the game plan. Go back to watch Bosa and Chase… two of the best Edges in the game as individuals and definitely the best tandem. Because of Lamar’s ability to score running the ball and from anywhere on the field, the game plane was to attack but in a controlled manner. Think of it as Zone defense in 🏀. If they pinned their ears back and attacked the way we always do, that opens up gaping holes for the one QB you really don’t want to open them for.

Javon Kinlaw has not been up and down this year. He is been very consistent and in a good way. The coaching staff trusts him so why are you judging him off one game this season at the end of the season. And that first play you showed he was clearly getting held.

The main "not-so-good" was Moody. His ball trajectory has been very erratic all year. Many of his makes are knucklers or just inside one of the uprights. I hope nothing comes down to his leg. If we still had Gould, we'd have won this one and the Browns game.

Yeah he's just straight up failed to learn the fundamentals of his position and he's had plenty of time. There are so many better options. Also I'm of the opinion that it's often better for interior D linemen to be short, wide and strong. Leverage is such a crucial element in the trenches and large men simply have a harder time getting it. Look at the Eagles, they've got the much-hyped Jordan Davis who is 6'6 but their run defense is terrible and he's a part of that.
