sjpro1 Yeah, its most likely a NP435. But I meant because of the way he kept pushing in the clutching and rolling way back.

+Freshkryp69 The Cummins 4BT is a fully mechanical turbo diesel engine. In its most common trim, it is 105hp & 265 ft/lbs torque. Just about any trans that mounts to the 6bt will also mount to the 4bt. It also only requires like 2 or 3 wires to run.

I'm really not too sure. I'm still in the beginning stages of contemplating a 4bt swap. If you want more info, try the 4BT Custom swaps 8 valves only group on facebook. They have great resources and some pretty good experts.

blastman8888 no I've had both manuals are great offroad but you need dual cases and lower gears for more control

You got it bud, T-18 or 98's are awesome!!! The 18 has a lower 1st tho and is probably a better rock crawler. For us old school Jeep guys who can't get past the 3 spd's the T-150's are a solid little gear box especially matched to a geared down Dana 20 or Atlas twin stick t-case. There are many real good tranny's out there for Jeeps, T-cases are a bit more sketchy tho. Advanced adapters and... chit lost my train of thought.... Aghhh.... losin it!!! NOVAK!!! There, I remembered!!! These guys have been in business for years and know Jeeps. They have awesome info and can recommend the best combinations for the brand specific guys. Look them up. It never hurts to read some experienced information. Cheers!!!

smwizzz Appreciate the description. I was only asking because I had an NP435 in my Jeep years back. Mine came from a 1/2 ton ford pickup, and of course I adapted it to the 258. The T-18 is usually the well known "4 speed ford", so I was curious which one was being referenced. Now I have a TH-400, that is reverse manual valve body, so it is kind of a manual without a clutch. I do miss the manual tranny every now and again.

Lol, ya, I miss the auto's lots on the street in a traffic jamb. The manuals are fun but auto's definitely have their pluses. I just like the old junk, they are in a class of their... Nostalgia!!! Cheers!!! Happy Trails!!!

the 4bt weights roughly 780lbs with oil in it. And a 4.0 straight six weights roughly 610-630lbs. if you moved the battery to the rear the weight difference is really negligible. With far better fuel mileage and torque its a perfect engine for these jeeps, as its a four cylinder its weight sits further back in the chassis for better weight distribution also. The 4bt is also the jack of all trades as there is huge selection of transmissions that can be bolted to it with adapter plates.

The engine's peak output RPM is something like 2300 RPM. It's designed to work and nothing else.

***** That is just how these four cylinders sound. That and they will shake rattle and roll your truck pretty good without good motor mounts. Ive heard of people putting the better harmonic balancers on them from the 5.9 6bt to help with that. They just sound like old tractors.

+Kcducttaper1 About 300ft/lbs @ 1600 RPM but that's what a 4 cyl diesel sounds like, he might have needed some injector attention though.. exhaust looked a little white (engine starve)

A 4.0 I6 weighs approx 630#, and a 4bt weighs approx 775#. The difference is entirely negligible unless it was considering difference on a track
