Just a little tip, dont rub the squeegee up and down, go in one direction only. i.e, from top to bottom and lift the tool off the vinyl and start again. Saves air bubbles being pushed around.

Heating the vinyl up makes cutting harder. If it conforms and stretches cutting isn’t as easy as when it’s stiff. It’s like paper pretty stiff you can hold it in one hand and cute through real easy. Good finished product thought looks great!
@DaveMedicus

On mine heating it up softened the material making it easier to cut.

@DaveMedicus

Thanks. It wasn't very hard to do and you will also have more room for error. Those kits are cut almost exact. If you are the slightest bit off you will have to buy a new set. This is a much easier and safer way to do it.

Do you have any recommendations as to where I can find this material online? I saw a few dealers on Ebay and one of them is selling a 12" x 60" roll for about $6.00. Not 3M brand but a clone of it I suppose. I also heard it's easy to remove in case you no longer like the look and it leaves no sticky residue behind. Is this true? Thanks!!
@DaveMedicus
@DaveMedicus 7 лет назад
Yes it is super easy to remove. I would try to get a good quality vinyl because it will give you better results. I believe my stuff total was like $40 will tools included. Just do a google search for automotive vinyl.

Great work :) I do have a question. What if the Carbon Fiber Vinyl is not sticky enough? Is their any glue or something that can be applied that won't damage the paint or leave any residue if the Vinyl is removed?
@DaveMedicus
@DaveMedicus 8 лет назад
+akshay sobs You can try to apply heat to the vinyl to melt the glue already on the material and try it. Other than that if its not sticky I would not even attempt to use it. There is some glue that would hold the edges but that won't help you if the material is bad.

You don't have to get carbon fiber vinyl wrap. The vinyl wrap is available in many different colors and finishes. Look on eBay and Amazon to see all of your options, many sellers will also offer a small piece of wrap for just a few dollars so you can see how it looks in person. I bought a sample from 1 dealer, it looked great on the internet, but looked like crap in person.

The pattern will be the same even if you apply it upside down unless you use different orientation when cutting it in the first place.
@DaveMedicus
@DaveMedicus 6 лет назад
Rico Cornelius yes that’s true. This is why I put arrows on my vinyl to make sure I was installing it the right way. I also wanted to make sure that I knew exactly what was up because the cuts were not straight because of the part.
@ricocornelius
@ricocornelius 6 лет назад
No you don't need the arrow upon installing, you only need it upon cutting. The only way you mess up the pattern is if you cut one section horizontally and the other vertically.
@DaveMedicus
@DaveMedicus 6 лет назад
Rico Cornelius no you don’t understand. If the vinyl is slightly off vertical (or pointing down like you say) the pattern will curve slightly from one piece to the other. To keep it an exact straight line from one piece to the other I used the arrow. It doesn’t matter if every piece was cut at a diagonal. What matters is that they were applied with the exact same spot point up.

It looks nice but everything in this world has its own life. When it is peeled off after long time to change with another one , does it have bad impact on the door pillars?

@DaveMedicus 3 года назад
I had no issues when I peeled mine off. Actually my pillars looked amazing and I didn't have to put anything back on them.
@hagakuru
@hagakuru 2 года назад
Appreciate the effort - but never understood the logic of applying CF on that particular area. I mean it would far be better to use a satin or gloss black than CF. Portraying the idea that CF is there - that your pillars are made of CF (in a key structural reinforcement area of the vehicle) is a bit ridiculous don't you think? Faux CF on the roof or hood I could reconcile - but not on pillars.
@DaveMedicus

It was different and a style that I liked. Toyota actually used carbon fiber vinyl on their pillars from the factory.

I kept it on for 3 years but you can keep them on for way longer. I’ve see people easily get 6 years out of it. I had a decal on my truck hood for the 8 years that I owned it. It just gets a little harder to pull off because it gets brittle with age. I’m talking about when under force.

Anyone know how smooth a plastic panel needs to be for vinyls to stick ?? . For example the dark grey panels on many cars have a light molded pattern on the surface ( so not to be shiny and smooth ) as on tops of interior door panels on a HYUNDAI or a KIA where your elbow would rest.
@DaveMedicus

Usually will conform to those small surface changes well. Gloss patters will show more mistakes or that texture. If you are using a textured vinyl you should be fine in my opinion.

I think it's better to peal it off from the top going down with the squeegee.

You are probably right but since I had the magnets on top I started on the bottom. Thanks for watching.

Gonna try this on my car! My door pillars have a grey vinyl on them stock, but some of it has came off showing the red paint underneath!

Question. Are the process of wrapping the same when wrapping plastic interiors?

Allan Cabibihan yes. You just may have more angles to deal with.

Great video babyboy!! now I have a 2019 kia forte and I m trying to add some to the rear sides because they said they didn't make chrome but then I thought about adding the carbon instead but do u think that I can get the carbon for this type of car,let a brother know and thanks!!
@DaveMedicus
@DaveMedicus 3 года назад
You can get carbon for any vehicle. You would just need to cut it yourself.

Kind of wasteful , you could have laid that piece down over both door pillars and then you also don't have to worry about matching pillars because they are cut from same laid piece.
@DaveMedicus
@DaveMedicus 6 лет назад
Thom Mccoy it wasn’t a waste. There is a large section around the back that when the door is open would not have been covered. Since I went all the way around it now has a clean and complete look. You can do your project however you want depending on you trim piece.

I'm no expert but I was thinking the same thing, that's a lot of waste now, one piece just a bit wider would of coveted them both, he had it half covered and used heat gun to remove it, why ? Should of done in one piece but one door at a time. That way you have the extra to bend over the edges now. That's my only thinking why he did it that way. Lots of waste. Glad I'm not the only one. Anyone have ideas on removing peeled pillars on a 2010 Honda now. Looks like it had it before but it's factory, I was gonna paint it until I seen the wrap, yes it's more money but nicer look. Also great before trading a car in now. Fix stuff like that to make nicer even if its just gloss black only. That's on a trade-in now, he didn't use any sprays at all which I'm confused, I thought you use a liquid to help get it laid out nice. I've seen done on the different car shows on TV, like Unique Designs now he does a lot of celebrity cars in wrap, brand new from the dealership a different color or any way they want and he saves everything so you can put everything back when they sell or trade to call back in. I'm sure people seen him on TV, he's done a lot of rich people, Ice Tea's wife's car. It also keeps the paint on a leased car looking new with no chips, it helps reduces chips. Not sure if true. That's watching TV now.

Yes your right to much waste of materials and takes more time .

S cc it was a bad pic. The pieces lined up perfectly from the direct side. The main point though was to insure that one line wasn’t going vertically and the other horizontally.

would it look real if u put some clear resin over it? like surfboard resin or something? or even some clear coat? it just doesn't have the "pop" that real carbon fiber twill does.

there is 5D carbon fiber now.. just installed it on my 5 series Bmw.. and it does have the sheen and everything like real carbon fiber does. it's even glossy so no need for clearcoat.

+Damien Nicholas I put wax on mine once and it took away the 4d look. I would just buy the 4d or the 5d like luis said.

I was a beginner when I did this. Make sure that you get good quality material is step one. There have been a lot of new techniques lately. I don't have the experience to give you an exact answer on this one. I would try to search for the exact thing you want to cover. Thanks for watching!

Nice job but it makes it way easier if you remove seals and door molding. 🐜
@DaveMedicus
@DaveMedicus 5 лет назад
It wasn't possible without fully replacing them since they were the metal pieces on the inside of the door that I trimmed around. It was not difficult at all to work around the seals. Thanks for watching

or just order the chrome looking ones off ebay for like $30 and it is much quicker and easier.
@DaveMedicus
@DaveMedicus 6 лет назад
You can do that if you don't want it to completely cover the entire area. Those on eBay just cover the general area. They are not very accurate with installation being sometimes difficult. It is totally up to you how you complete your project. There is really no wrong way if you are enjoying yourself.
