Taken 12/28/22. Took a few tries to get a retake on this branch. Thanks to #1722 having M3's the other night and remaining in Huntington overnight, I woke up early, swung by Ocean Avenue for #2019 as that also had M3's, and then drove to Huntington and got myself a nice video all the way to Penn. Enjoy!

Even to watch the video on a late July day in North Texas, the view refreshes as if you were there.

when my mom's family first moved to Huntington (from Queens) in 1968, both the LIE and Northern State ended at Sagitkos/Sunken Meadow Parkway; then to get east, take 27 (Sunrise) on south shore or 25 (Jericho/Middle Country rd) on north shore. Can Google amazing photos of these LIRR train stations from early 1900's !!!! Thank you Mr. Master; this vid is awesome.

When I saw the name Huntington I thought it would be my hometown in Huntington, West Virginia but I see it wasn't. Great video 📸!

Sunnyside Yard is packed! The first time I saw that was back in the mid-1970s when I took the Amtrak United Aircraft Turbo train to Penn Station to meet my aunt who then drove me out to their house on Long Island. Back in the 1970s, the yard was full of New Haven washboards EMUs, even though everything was under Penn Central, Pennsy-lettered and PC-lettered GG1s, and lots of other consists including those from the Southern Railway because they didn't join Amtrak.

Love this. My sister used to live in Kings Park and I took the train to see her frequently. I loved it. Easier than driving from here (Matawan, NJ) and for me, more fun. Train from here to Penn Station, then jump on the LIRR. I miss it. (And her - she moved to Florida.)

taught in Kings Park for 20 years (KPJHS . . . did they keep the name change to Rogers JHS?), Went into Manhattan a million times but took Ronkonkoma non-stop . . .or stopped in Hicksville. Always wondered what the approach to Penn Sta. was like (all dark inside for us.) Great vid. Son now lives in Tampa; season passes to Universal, Busch. Busch annual pass, Florida resident; $400. Go four times (he already did in January) and rest of year free (as 1 day is about $140 + $30 parking.)

The concrete and steel still in good shape 100 years later. Amazing I see concrete culverts that were built in the 30s that are still like the day they were poured and then see 5 year old concrete that has completely fallen apart. There is no pride and quality like there was back then. Seeing infrastructure from the 1700s that is still solid just fascinates me. How they could have built walls of stone and mortar and they have held up this long just seems impossible

@philipnasadowski1060

Ugh, the old Cerro Wire site that sat unused for decades is now a stupid Amazon warehouse. It could have made a really nice park&ride + bus connection. You’d have easy ability to do ramps to the Expressway and Northern State, and space to put a huge parking garage. With the third track and East Side opening (some day..), you’d be able to clean up traffic in towards the city by moving them out to that area by train. Faster commute for drivers - they’d take the train.
@steveh4564
@steveh4564 Год назад
Yup, to bad it’s not just a giant parking producing no jobs like warehouse workers, drivers, cleaners, office staff, training staff, health & safety jobs, no 401K’s, no Health Benefits for hundreds’s of families and driving zero ancillary revenue into the community like supporting restaurants, gas stations, HVAC vendors, fire protection vendors etc., etc.,etc after decades of nothing. Just a nice big parking lot. Brilliant.

Very Cool!!!! Thank you for sharing. Can you explain briefly the bells. I'm thinking one is to cancel the Alerter but not sure what the others were for. Maybe to communicate with the onboard crew?
@MrMaster767
@MrMaster767 Год назад
Short bells are the alerter. Long bells mean the speed code is dropping.

Great video. Thanks for posting. Q? What is the "telephone bell" that keeps ringing at irregular intervals? Muat be particularly annoying to the engineer trying to concentrate on operating the train.
@rustyr0824
@rustyr0824 Год назад
If you can say. How is it that you even gained access to record this video. And is the camera suction cupped to the window or maybe is on a gimble keeping it from bouncing around. Again, Excellent video.

Good stuff. From a UK point of view accelaration doesn't look great, but I suppose that's down to your bigger loading gauge and hence heavier trains.

Do you like a decent train simulator? You can match the last half of this video up with the Open Rails train simulator, Long Island Railroad route. You can predict the next stations from the open rails simulator map and scenery. Both real and imaginary match well.

@MrMaster767 Год назад
M3's you can as long as the cab door isn't open. Some will say yes and others may say no. It all comes down to how you approach and ask these people. I'm planning on explaining more about this soon because in the coming months, it's going to get more difficult to acquire this kind of footage. I don't want to discuss it right now because I don't want to mislead people into thinking you can no longer do this. It's just technology in general that's going to make it harder.
