The city is located in the western part of Judea at an altitude of about 775 meters above sea level. It is located 10 km south of Jerusalem, 59 km southeast of the Mediterranean coast and 75 km west of Amman - Jordan's capital.
It is surrounded by the cities of Jerusalem (Gillo, Bayt Safafa, Givat ha-Matos and Har Homa settlements), Byte Jala and Byte Sahur, the town of Al-Khadr, the Ramat Rachel kibbutz and the villages of Al-Asakra, Hindaza and Artas. Muhafaz Bethlehem includes the neighboring cities of Byte Jala and Byte Sahur, as well as the Palestinian refugee camps of Doha, Ajida and Azza.
