Yes I saw the lovely Moose, after the Cows, saw a few Birds, might have seen a couple of Nightjars, similar flight to Nightjars..! Very scenic route with the high mountains, lakes, rivers.. Whooooopppppeeeee..
At my age, I suspect I will never get to Norway but this is certainly a unique way to see the beautiful scenery that Norway offers and to travel in areas that you can't travel by car. The video is so amazing to watch on the big screen so thank you so much for doing these videos so your subscribers can enjoy this beautiful country and have a front seat view of rail travel from your train.
@Raymond Taylor I'm glad I'm able to show you these views now :D And I'll do my best to bring even more spectacular views :) If you're into 360 videos, I do have a video where I ride my Motorcycle from Nyborg in Bergen to Voss via the old road between Stanghelle - Dale and Voss :)
@@RailCowGirl Oh my goodness ... that sounds very exciting and presents another unique view of the different communities and countryside ... I must check that out and thanks again for doing that particular video :)
This reminds me of when I went to Norway. In Oslo we were trying to decide whether to go on to Flåm or wait out some rainy weather. When we saw a rainbow, we decided to go. Then we took a boat thru the fjords from Flåm to Bergen, and people were saying how everything was booked in Bergen. We had no reservations, but as we got close to Bergen, we saw a double rainbow, and we felt everything would be ok. When we got to Bergen, we went to the train station, where we waited in line to get a place to stay at the info center. They were having to send everyone out on the train to a nearby city. When the gal was finishing with the guy ahead of us, her phone rang, and it was a nearby student hotel that just had a room for 2 open up! We couldn't believe it!
This may now be my favorite video. Loved the parking of the train at the end of the day, then the bicycle rided home. Thanks for a wonderful ride along.
Such a relaxing ride on the rails while listening to Edvard Grieg! Edvard Grieg is the Soul of Norway and the rails are its arteries. Thanks for sharing.
Enjoyed the whole thing. The rainbows were wonderful. But what an ending. I'm so glad you ran the camera while you parked the carriages, loco, and the walk up the stairs to the bike ride to your night lodging. Wow. That end segment so said "we are here and now time for some well deserved rest". Thanks for sharing.
Thank you once again for virtually taking me with you on another wonderful train ride. Honestly Ireland should consider Norway just as green and maybe more so. Thank you again.
When you release a new video, I always give it a like before watching it. I love your videos and I am watching them over and over again. Congratulations on 100 000 subscribers!
I really loved this video. It was great countryside views during the day with lovely little stations all along the way. At night the lighting in the final stop was really nice. Then the night exercises to get the train into the service shed … and all of the lovely, warm lighting surrounding that task. Perfect Day! Will come back to this one often. Also loved the speed of the train in the video.
Werte Dame!
@@RailCowGirl Too bad they removed the one between the tram network and rail network just outside Oslo Central. I know the SL79 trams were delivered by rail from Strømmen to Schweigaards Gate, where they just put the panto up and drove by them selves to the Holtet tram depo.
I love your videos and CONGRATS on 100k!!!! I notice that between bright and dark scenes now, there are sudden adjustments sometimes to keep everything looking nice. Is that a permanent feature of this new camera? It makes everything so beautiful, I really feel I am there. So grateful to you for these experiences.
Wow, what a wonderfully beautiful and interesting video. Everything was great from the scenic train ride to the parking of the train and the trip through Oslo to a very comfortable looking bed for a well deserved rest. Kind regards from Andre and Lola Engelbrecht in Queenstown, South Africa
That was and amazing trip !!! Moving the train and engine to the shops was excellent !!! Man that hotel room was small !!!! :):):) Thanks for sharing this with us !!! All the best "RailCowGirl" :):):)
Your videos are awesome. I knew it was only a matter of time before you hit 100K subscribers! Congratulations! Do you have anything special planned to celebrate?
I do have something in mind to celebrate this with you :) I'm working on carving out that video as we speak :) Not filmed yet, but something will happen in the future :D Just need to have everything in place first :D
Wow, It's really interesting to see one moment you're inside a high tech locomotive, the next moments riding a bicycle. I didn't expect that.... with a ccol job as train conductor, i thought you're going to drive a sportscar..
LOL! If one could afford that :p Yeah, but we're trying to think about the environmental impact of such as well :) The scooter we use are electric, and can be used by anyone, really :D
Not much room at Hval. 253 meter of train and 256 meter of space. Good job. Awsome video. I reccon the first freight trains at Hval was 600 meters. And the number 2 was around 390 meters. First one going to Stavanger. 486x and second one is going to Bergen i think. 55××
Seeing the voyage parts of your videos are really nice, as always. But I love the novelty of non-voyage parts of your videos, like yard activities and Norway cities.
Hey RCG, Nice Video, As Always I LOVE Them Because Most People Don't Get To See A Train Ride From The Driver's Point Of View. Unless, You're On A Multiple Unit Or Push-Pull Train With Railcar That Has Windows Near The Cab.
2:54:22 I'm always amazed by how fast the switch is thrown and the signal clears at these meets. Here in the US Dispatchers can pre-set the route yet it will take 30-45 seconds for the signal to come up. Anyway, tangent over. Thanks for posting these excellent videos, I know you put a lot of effort into them!
i guess that's because it's no underlying axel detection system on certain lines in the US :) and that they have to confirm with the traffic controller / dispatch about their position? here the safety system can detect when the whole train has arrived the station and is not in conflict with the neighbouring track... and will a that automatically throw the switch and clear path :)
@@RailCowGirl it is true we have some areas with manual switches and traffic controlled by communicating with the Dispatcher, similar to the Flam line if I infer from the videos correctly. But the areas I'm thinking of are Signalled routes on a Commuter railroad. I have a theory from watching our Dispatchers: Perhaps the Norse system stores the route in the interlocking at the switch so as soon as the interlocking clears in the field the route is ready to launch. Stacked routes on my railroad seem to be stored in the dispatch software so the interlocking has to clear, send the indication to the dispatch center, then the computer processes the clear route and sends the command to the interlocking which then sets the route. So several extra steps (even though the dispatcher is doing the same action on the interface).
@@jsunflyguy It's the same thing that happens here. All meets are predetermined and train paths are already set. The Traffic controller can of course go in and alter these or override the system and run it in "manual" (not bypassing any safety measures). I guess it's just a different way of pinging the line block to check if it's free. But, If you'er thinking of how fast a train can enter after I've stopped, then that could be the editing. ;) We do have a station lock of 90 seconds after a train has entered the station. After 90seconds the second train can enter. This is done to make sure the first train is standing still before the other train can enter. :) and that there is no conflict at the switches :)
I have just discovered your channel in these days... Searchin for something to use as "background" for a nap... :P The sound of the train it really relax me :) And when I open eyes... Oh the view! :D
Sorry I haven't commented in a while. Wow! You're quite the girl! Train driver, motorcycle rider, skydiver. Back in the day, I used to ride my Honda 450 all over the place. I prefer the back roads rather than main highways. What kind of bike do you have? I also enjoy aircraft as I used to be a private pilot. I buzzed around NorCal in a Cessna 150. Personally, I'd much prefer to fly an airplane than jump out of one! Stay safe and thank you so much for all the hard work you do with the videos and chats! Your new camera is great!!!!
What is the function of the small brick building with a pointed roof about midway along the Bergen line? Something to do with signalling perhaps. Great videos, so relaxing, wish I could visit Norway.
Wow ... the moose was pretty close to the tracks and thank heavens he heard you coming and scampered off the ballast into the bush. I know you have spoken about wildlife on the tracks before and what you are required to do .. but do you ever blast the horn when you see them or perhaps would that cause them to panic and possibly run in the wrong direction thus causing them to be hit by the train?
They all react differently. In this case I oped not to sound the horn as it would have stressed the animal further and it could have gone onto the tracks because it would be easier for it to try and run there. Sometimes sounding the horn makes them stop in their tracks.. other times it makes them run... I guess they're just like us :p
Great video - the speed of the train, is it monitored if you go too fast?? How do they notify you?? I never hear radio communication on the video was just wondering and learning - I don't see speed signs unless i am missing them
We do not use open communications, we use something called GSM-R, Point to poiint or conference call when needed. :) If you go to fast the ATC will reduce your speed when you surpass 9km/h... warning is given at 5kmh.
Hi RCG. Brilliant video's thank you. The bits before and after the cab ride are a nice touch I think. A question, do you work on freight at all or are you just a passenger driver?
Thank you ❤️❤️ freight is a completely different company thanks to EU’s directive of privatization of the freight sector back in the end of the 90’s....
Hey RCG congrats on the 100K and I like the new camera. Seems to have better color saturation or are you doing something in post-processing? Also for the first time I noticed the blast of air when the train exits tunnels blowing the trees around! Wish I had the bandwidth to watch in full HD. Can't take the V-Strom on the train with you so you have to rent a crummy scooter?
Thank you so much, Paul :D The new camera has a whooping 13 steps dynamic range and that gives a lot of range to play with to get the best out of the image. Still a learning process, but I'm already amazed by the capabilities in the camera. Not possible to move a transport a motorcycle with a passenger train as it would be a violation of the safety rules to transfer petrol through long tunnels with a passenger train :) So yes :D I rent a electric scooter to get me from A to B in Oslo :D They are straight out brilliant :D
Congratulations on reaching 100k! You said that you had an unscheduled stop at Flå because a passenger did not get off at Nesbyen. I'm curious, how do you know when a passenger wants to get off? Does a conductor inform you? Does the passenger press a button?
Thanks, and same to you too :D One has to be vigilant in these uncertain days. We're on the verge of imposing pretty heavy restrictions again here in Norway.
Trolldalen... With a name like that it just HAD to be in a cave :) Serious question though @RCG... You mention the vibration in the description and I note at the start of the video the EL18 didn't sound the same as usual. Do you report this to the depot? Or is there a log in the cab for that sort of thing? How does fault reporting work in Norway? The vibration does give the EL18 a nice 2,200 bhp diesel sound though lol!
We do that from time to time. We call it "the swedish button" off and then on again. The reason we call it "the swedish button? Thats because Norway and sweeden has always been the little and the big Brother. Always teasing back and fourth. 😁😁
@@BlackWolf. Lol. Everyone in the Nordics are just teasing Sweden. I honestly think that's pretty hillarious. Sincerely a southern brethren from Denmark.
@@RailCowGirl no, I meant is this the journey to Oslo that was chronologically before the "Nordic night" return journey? You've said you go to Oslo periodically to maintain your qualification on the route. (Google Translate) : @RailCowGirl nei, jeg mente er dette reisen til Oslo som var kronologisk før "nordisk natt" hjemreise? Du har sagt at du regelmessig drar til Oslo for å opprettholde kvalifiseringen din på ruten.
@garry zimmerman if You're not referring to the part right after Jevnaker. There is a temporary speed restriction there due to instability in the track by the overpass :)
Could you help me to find a page where the Norwegian signs and all the sign tables signals and the railway switches described? I am very curious about it. I am pretty much aware of the Hungarian signals, but I sometimes get confident watching your videos. Thanks.
@@RailCowGirl I found this: web.archive.org/web/20070928105350/www.sjt.no/upload/documents/Signalforskriften/Signalforskrift.pdf but it's in Norwegian. Google is my friend.
