Just want to add that the water tower at Austvoll ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EUcS7c8YiNU.html is one of the two last water towers of it's kind on the original Bergen Line. The other one is located at Stryken on the Gjøvik Line. Both of these has a circular foundation. There used to be a tower at Gol as well, but it was torn down during the renovation of the station there, but that tower had a square foundation. When it comes to shaking camera, this is because the system I have was designed for the EL18 and FLIRT specifically. A new camera was ordered in December but due to the current chip shortage and freight challenges.... well I'm still waiting for for it to arrive... The guys at Foto.no is working really hard to get it for me. Huge shout out for them for being so awesome and providing such good service!
Ah, from the good old steam era? Lucky you don't have to set a fire 5 hours before you can go anywhere 🙂 I just watched "The General" with Buster Keaton. If you haven't seen it you should.
OK. It's official. We are definitely spoiled. Just watched the whole thing on my UHD large screen. The photography makes it seem like I'm in your cab. Small signs are easy to read. Countryside is especially beautiful when accented by snow showing nice detail nearby and on far away mountains. I checked out how much your camera and lens cost. Holy cow! And you mastered your annotations along the way giving a very professional presentation. Only question I have when you occasionally say "oompa-oomp" along the way, what does that mean? And thanks again. ❤
Ah, the hum of the Bombardier TRAXX ms3 locomotive???, I think., it must be the Lady of the Rail time again. 1st, thank you very much for taking the time to produce these fine cinematic works, patiencely reading through all the various questions that your viewers have, upgrading your filming equipment, at your own expense. You are very much appreciated for all that you do. Again, I truly enjoy watching your high quality work.
A lady I knew in London drove military trucks in WW II. The ladies used an open top Water Tower on an express line as their only way to have a {cold} bath. A express passed, took all the water, and they had a lot of trouble climbing out.
Wow thank you for your time and effort in making these videos and putting them out. These are a fantastic distraction from the present troubles in the world today.👍👍👍
I love Honefoss station - just the name is nice, and junction stations are always interesting - but also Honeyfoss has a lot of intruiging "other" buildings around it - and the station building itself is lovely. There are several through tracks through the station (from the Drammen direction) but in all your videos I have only ever seen just the main platform one in use, even if not stopping at Honeyfoss!
Really enjoyed watching that. What a fabulous place to work! I did 25 years on the railway here in the UK as a Guard and a station controller. In the early days when we had slam door trains, we used to to an early morning run that would take us through the New Forest area of Hampshire. We'd always stop at Beaulieu Road station, a tiny place in the middle of nowhere. I remember stepping down onto the platform./ All you could hear was the birds singing their dawn chorus and the hot resistors under the train just ticking away to themselves. Very happy days indeed. Thank you for posting this video, watching it really made my day. :-)
Wow! Been working down in Chile and Peru for just over three months and finally got a chance to watch one of your video and was pleasantly surprise to see you now operating a freight-train had no idea until seeing this video you did both freight and passenger train operations. I guess until seeing this video I had the idea that train engineers were assigned to either freight or passenger service duty. Kind of silly of me to think that but just goes to show how wrong my assumption was. Great video, thoroughly enjoyed seeing a different side to your engineering abilities, RailCowGirl your one of the BEST that's for sure.
Beautiful moonrise capture at 2:57, then spotting it higher in the sky at 3:03. That moon would sure look gorgeous over a clear night sky in the snowy mountains! And the Oslo freight yard - wow, it huge!
Thank you so much for another super video! It's always a pleasure to watch one of your videos. It's a great distraction from covid and all the crap that is going on in the world these days. Thanks again! Take care and be safe!
Like the view on what I am seeing, Enjoyed the Video a lot and hope to see more like this one, Thank you for your time putting together these Video's, I'll be waiting for the next one, RCG
I've been trying to figure out if this was real or not lol. Finally realized at just after 3:02:39 the glare from the incoming train isn't natural. It just appears and disappears instead of panning across as it passes and it never got progressively lighter it just got bright and the disappeared as soon as the other train passed. Some things I've seen made me wonder if it was created or recorded but I am not used to super high Def and I have those tvs now so sometimes things look fake. I gotta say, I'm actually drastically more impressed that it is simulated. That is a shit ton of detail! Unbelievable! Looks like that unreal engine shit. Very high quality work. I've had videos like this running on one of our tvs and love checking in at various times and watching bits of the trail. Very cool and very cool idea.
The glare? you are aware that the glare you're talking about is me turning on the cab light to wave to the operator in the other train, right? A totally normal custom here in Norway. This is real, I've been operating trains for well over a decade and I've been filming my trips from work since 2015
It seems so strange to go zipping through all the stations ... we have ridden for a few years with you on NSB/Vy, so you got us used to passenger runs!
Takker for denne film.
Nice scenery in this one. I'm glad you are working on the camera shake, as I couldn't watch much of this one. It seems worse to me than recent one for some reason. Looks like you did fix the exposure adjustment time on the tunnel exits.
@@richardscathouse That's no doubt true. But if the camera and mount can't cope and produce videos without sickening jitter the result doesn't work, no matter what the cause.
En lille hilsen her fra Danmark. Bergenbanen må være den absolut flotteste og mest imponerende bane i verden :) Og fantastiske videoer du stadig uploader. Er det så slut med video fra Flåmsbana?
Hi RCG, thank you so so much for explaining the Train Thor situation, like you said, things were being done the wrong way, and got caught out. It sort of makes your timing to move over to freight, even better :) Lets hope it doesn't involve too many other RU-vidr's. I will miss him, he took us thru different area's of your country. Will most of your freight run's be on the Bergen Line, or is there a chance you might get to go in other directions ?? Cheers :)
I'm going to be pretty much all over the place. Operated on the South Line not long ago, did not record it as it was pitch black outside :) Will for sure go down there again soon, and there will be other Lines as well as soon as I get my certifications for them. Feels strange having to be re-certified on lines I ran for nearly 10 years where nothing has really changed since I last went there. LOL. Stay tuned :D And of course I've used nearly my whole heritage on a new camera... omg...
Great vid, the first part of the vid seemed a bit de-saturated in color or that maybe just the winter color. Seemed to have a bit of problem with stabilization that sort of disappeared on the latter half. I don't think I have seen this route before on your prior rail travels. Either way I enjoyed your journey over the silver rails.
There is no stabilization on this rig. Working on that issue, but due to the freight problems and chip shortage everything is hauled out in time… been waiting since December.
So you know the reason why Geithus is so long? Exit signal pretty far south from the station itself? Something that remains from the old glory with all the sidings? Great video BTW!😄
@@RailCowGirl guessed the old saw/papermill was the reason. The noticed that there was no presignal for the last southbound signal, so guessing it are in conjunction with the inner signals?😊
I like all the videos of Rail Cow Girl (since a long time, when she was "Hindu Cow Girl"), but I realized I like the stabilised videos more. The shaky cam is not my favourite video effect in the movies - and here also, it seems to me that the camera shaking chips away from the impression of serenity and stability that are given by other videos she uploaded, where I can feel like I am effortlessly flying at 0 gravity over the rail lines, in a beautiful landscape. But a big "Thank you for your effort!", anyway!
Like previously mentioned the shakyness is because of the design of the cab itself and my system was designed around the EL18 and FLIRT, I've been waiting for a new systems since December, but due the freight crisis and lack of silicone to make chips everything is hauling out in time. Hopefully I'll be able to rid of that shakiness.. . it's either a bit shaky or no video at all.
Are you working 6, 8, or ten hour shifts. It's not easy to tell from that crazy mid arctic circle sunlight... From some of the clips I get the impression that they run three trains a night unless there's too much cargo then they play follow my leader up the hill with as many trains as necessary. All planed by some evil computer somewhere in Oslo 😈
Werte Dame!
Question. On this type of locomotive, do you sit on the right, middle or left to operate the locomotive? What kind of seats do you have? High back with arms? Or something a little more simple
My husband loves the beautiful scenery in your videos, and I realy enjoy all the sounds that go on. I do have a question: What is the slurpy gurgling noise I hear from time to time in some of the videos? It's louder in some than others. Is it some sort of air cushioning?
How many miles is that ride? Why only 1 track? Does the train come back in the opposite direction on that same track? How many trains per day go on the same route? What is the speed of the train in miles per hour? Has the train ever gotten stuck and if so what happens then?
@@RailCowGirl Before Norway I was watching Indian and Pakistani rail videos. One or two of the rail vloggers in Pakistan are almost national celebrities and it seems they have very good friendships with the drivers, to the extent that in the highlands they get to ride and film from the front platform (USA style diesels with walkways). Been wondering about that for a while until I saw the above. Thx
Have a bit of a grudge when it comes to you Vmax indications... Isn't it true that a section of line can have as many as 5 Vmaxes? Vmax EMU (blue signs), Vmax B7 (small orange sign), Vmax line (black bordered orange triangular sign pointing up or down), Vmax train (set by rolling stock, 120kph if only -ss goods wagons, 100kph if -s and/or -ss good wagons, otherwise 80kph), and Vmax diverted (black bordered circular sign, or 40kph)?
No, You only have Base speed (freight trains, passenger trains with WLAB (sleepers) Base speed + overspeed (for trains approved for overspeed, Class 69, 70, 72, 74/75/76. Type B7, B5 carriages and EL18 Blue signs = allowed speed for trains with active tilting (class 71 and 73) There are more rules applied for freight trains as it comes down to type of wagon, markings and weight and brake percentage. Standard speed for freight trains in Norway is 100. Circular signals with a number in it is only VMAX for diverted track if the speeds deviate from the standard of 40km/h
@@RailCowGirl I may be bad at counting, but I think I counted 5 speeds in your reply. The same as I thought it was… I guess there are only -s and -ss goods wagons left in Norway then, except on Krøderen
I have tried to puzzle out the placement of horn signals for some time , it seems they are not at road crossings . Why are they placed where they are ? Or is it just a timed interval ? Thank you for the wonderful content
@@chrisnalina1755 from the sidelines, keeping up with the comments, questions, and other messages, can get quite heavy, especially if you feel you need to keep things moving along - like just after releasing a new film - and it's not always possible to do everyone justice all the time. I look at other stuff and tbh RCG interacts a lot more than the average for this type of material. One thing that I myself do as a watcher is to take my question, watch the film again, resort to other information sources, and so on, this way you can answer your own question and rephrase it as a comment, thus helping other watchers. YMMV.
Hva angir de trekantede og gule skiltene med sorte tall langs sporet? / What are the yellow signs with black numbers shaped like triangles and circles, found along the tracks?
I can't, for the life of me, find railroad signage and their meanings for the rails in your neck of the woods. Can you direct me to a site that has this information? I love your videos, always have!
what happened to TrainThor's videos? i was about half way thru the 28 hour video and now it's gone along with everything else. i'm sure he didn't violate any terms of service. i am dumbfounded!😮
OK, I'm not after any details, but I would still like to know what happened to Train Thor, I watched nearly all his videos, and if you go to his channel, there's NO video's, NO contact info, NO explanation...he had a good thing going, and then WHAM, stopped....was is RU-vid or the "train" company ?? That's all, I'd like to know...please :)
I won't go into details, but a permanent ban on filming was issued in the Vy-group due to safety and liability. There is a reason I NEVER used GPS or showed the trains true speed. Simply because the data can be off making it look like you're speeding. That reflects TRULY badly on the company and the safety. You reap what you sow... The ban burned down other RU-vidrs as well, and the pure recklessness is a testament that this is not for everyone. If you're unable to see the reach of your own actions, and how it reflects on everyone else, then you should not be doing this at all. The person responsible for this should be sitting very quietly in the boat for a good while before the National Rail Administration issues a nation wide ban on filming in the cab! Guess this sums it up.
Have the railroads in Norway ever thought of imitating what the regional transit agency in Chicago--METRA--and the Chicago Transit Authority did? Both Metra and the CTA officially installed cameras in almost all of their trains to automatically film the trips from the engineer's point of view. Then both Metra and the CTA put the videos on RU-vid for people to watch. Also, in addition, the CTA installed cameras in some of their buses so you could take a trip by bus in what is called "virtual reality" if you want to.
