Exploring Bangkok's vibrant and historic Chinatown. The Chinatown in Bangkok is one of the largest Chinatowns in the world dating back to 1782 when the first Chinese immigrants settled near the Grand Palace. Today, it is a bustling hub of commerce, culture and cuisine.
Yaowarat Road (ถนนเยาวราช) is the main artery of Chinatown which is lined with street foods, seafood stalls, shops, restaurants, temples and markets. The road is 1.5 km long and was built in 1891 by King Rama V. It is known as the Golden Road or the Dragon Road because it's shaped like a dragon's body and its abundance of gold shops.
Some of the cultural attractions in Chinatown include Wat Traimit, which houses the world's largest gold Buddha statue, and Wat Mangkon Kamalawat, the largest Chinese-Buddhist temple in Bangkok.
