This is the second part of our bike tour from Berlin to Potsdam. We are going to see the place, where Stalin, Truman and Churchill met at the end of WW ll.
Please share, comment, like and suscribe to my channel, if you liked the video!
Thank you for your support!
Our starting point is Glienicker Brücke. In the middle of the bridge was the border between the Soviet zone of occupation in Germany and the American sector of Berlin. Because the Glienicke Bridge was a restricted border crossing, the Americans and Soviets used it for the exchange of captured spies during the Cold War.
The 2015 film Bridge of Spies, directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Tom Hanks, features the Powers-Abel prisoner exchange on the bridge as a major plot element.
We cycle through the New Garden and mainly explore Cecilienof Palace.
Cecilienhof Palace is a palace in Potsdam, Brandenburg, Germany built from 1914 to 1917 in the layout of an English Tudor manor house. Cecilienhof was built by the House of Hohenzollern (that ruled the Kingdom of Prussia and the German Empire until the end of World War I) for Crown Prince Wilhelm (William) and his wife, Duchess Cecilie of Mecklenburg-Schwerin.
The palace is located in the large Neuer Garten park, close to the shore of the Jungfernsee.
The park was largely redesigned as an English landscape garden according to plans by Peter Joseph Lenné from 1816 onwards.
It is famous for having been the location of the Potsdam Conference in 1945, in which the leaders of the Soviet Union (Josef Stalin), the United Kingdom (Winston Churchill and later Clement Attlee) and the United States (Harry S. Truman) made important decisions affecting the shape of post World War II Europe and Asia.
The Potsdam Conference (officially the "Berlin Conference") took place from 17 July to 2 August 1945. It was the third and longest summit between the heads of government of the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom and the United States, the major forces in the anti-Hitler-coalition that had just won the war after VE day, 8 May 1945. The conference was mainly organized by the Soviets.
In 1952 a memorial for the Conference was set up in 36 (out of 176) rooms of the palace and the rest of the complex became a hotel in 1960.
After 1961 part of the Neuer Garten was destroyed to build the southwest section of the Berlin Wall which ran along the shore of Jungfernsee.
Today, parts of Cecilienhof are still used as a museum.

Wow, beautiful part of Berlin. I guess it's not too close to the downtown. Like the history aspect, too.

Hi Ben, glad you liked it. Berlin was seen in the first part of my cycling videos, this is already Potsdam. And Cecilienhof Palace is less than 10 minutes away from Potsdam city center by bike. But from Berlins downtown it´s a 1,5 hours ride.
