Yesterday, I tracked my GF's mom and dad's flight from LHR back to SEA and am feeling very jet lagged as a result. Anyhow, I have yet to visit MDW. Good views along the way to MCI. It looks like a big El Nino is forming int he South Pacific. This is astonishing when you consider that this is happening right after going thru a triple-dip La Nina. There's usually a 2-4 year period where we have "normal" weather. I've never seen us go straight to an El Nino from a La Nina. Looks like we're in for a wild weather ride for the next year or two.

@@sla31 I think you said MCI is one of your home airports, is Kansas City your hometown? It’s mine, Born and Raised!
@sla31
@sla31 Год назад
@@baileyostrom2972 no, I grew up in a small town in Southeast Kansas. And after college and some working in other areas, I actually ended up moving back to the same area. Joplin Missouri has always been the closest “bigger” city. That being relative since at 50K Joplin is big for around here haha. So JLN would be my true home airport, but because they only get 2 flights per day on CRJ’s, I often drive to XNA, TUL or MCI. So I consider all of them “home” airports. MCI is definitely the one with the most options.

MDW has really small runways, so they use up to flaps 15 on takeoff here. For a longer runway they only use flaps 5
@achmedbincouscous2846
@achmedbincouscous2846 Год назад
In an 800 and MAX8, Flaps 25 are common for TO out of MDW. Flaps 15 does not give full extend on the leading edge devices, so the PWB System SWA uses tends to drive a Flaps 25 T/O.

Hey there, your videos are great. This summer im going on many trips,1 of them take me to San Juan Puerto Rico with a stop at Orlando. I will be flying on a 737-700 and a 737 Max 8 and wanted to ask this: Do you have any tips for video recording on an iPhone and keeping it still during takeoff and landing?
@sla31
@sla31 Год назад
Well, I currently use the iPhone 14 Pro to film and I don't use anything special to keep it steady. I just hold the phone by hand. I do wear a black glove to keep my hand from reflecting in the window. You'll also need a battery to keep it charged if you plan to film a lot. Filming in 4K or even 1080 drains the battery fast.

@@austindarrenor The F27 was a cool airplane, just LOOOOUDDD! I rode on a F50 (The Friendship's replacement) once, but the new engines and props didn't do much to make it quieter. Maybe a little. I used ride in ATR72's quite a bit. Nice airplane. I don't think there are many Fokkers left flying in the USA. Horizon started out with F27s many years ago and they still have some Dash8's like the one in this video. Silver has ATR's. I'd really have to go look it up to see if any regionals in the USA have Fokkers, since so few even have ANY turboprops anymore.

@achmedbincouscous2846 Год назад
It's extremely rare to do a Flaps 15 TO in an 800. Flaps 15 does not give full extend on the leading edge devices. Flaps 25 does, which will always result in a better stopping margin, so the PWB System will always select Flaps 25 on short runways.
@macostapr3951
@macostapr3951 Год назад
@@achmedbincouscous2846 I agree, I just happen to have footage of a flaps 10 and this one seems just a bit more. So I think it could be 15, but a slight chance of flaps 10.

@achmedbincouscous2846
@achmedbincouscous2846 Год назад
@@macostapr3951 While the PWB could in theory return a Flaps 15 solution, I don't recall ever actually doing one out of MDW. Simply because of the very small change in V1 and stopping margin 15 would provide vs 5. The big advantage is always at 25 when you get the LE Devices fully extended, and can sometimes even do a reduced thrust TO, which is another priority of the PWB Software. PWB prioritizes stopping margin first, then reduced thrust, so on a short runway, it'll almost always go for a F25 solution. Basically, the software's thinking is "If 5 ain't cuttin' it, you're going all the way to 25" So yeah, it's hard to tell from the footage, since we can't see the leading edge devices, but just based on what the PWB defaults are like, this was most likely a F25 TO.
