Ahhh ONT, the airport of my youth! Went on to work the ramp down at 410 for AA. I’ve flown ONT-DEN numerous times on United, way back pre 9/11 as a UM, fun times!
I worked for an airline at one point too. Post 9/11, but it was still a blast. I only stayed for around 6 years. It was a college job. Why does everyone always look back at their time with airlines as "the good old days" haha. I certainly had fun back then. Thanks for watching my friend!
@@sla31 it’s a truly unique experience to work around large aircraft. We were a single gate, single type operation back then with the MD-82/83 on the obligatory DFW run. A couple of turns and 3 RON’s. Always loved pushing and towing and found it really cool being partially responsible for the weight and balance in the bagroom with bin assignments, we had 3. Servicing lavs when the Santa Ana winds were blowing across the ramp was for the birds!
I'm so glad I found your channel. I'm terrified of flying but have a cross-country flight in four days to see family and friends. Your videos have been so helpful in getting some exposure therapy and reminding myself that flying can be peaceful. Also, love the flight attendant saying "Sit back... ~r e l a x~...and enjoy the flight" lol

@@sla31I also have a fear of flying but I need to go visit my granddaughter in Illinois. It’s only an hour and a half flight from Maryland so I thought I would give it a try. Your videos have made me feel a little more at ease about flying.
I've flown in and out of Denver a few times. Huge airport. One time I had a layover there heading back to DC out of Vegas. Ate at John Elway's restaurant...lol....On the leg from Denver to DCA, you could tell the pilots were in a rush. They gunned it from takeoff to landing. Never experienced anything like it. They likely climbed up to the jet stream, rode it as long as they could, and then descended so fast people were commenting on it.
@@Jraptorblue8465 No, they're just not flying scheduled commercial flights anymore. They're still operating as a company and offering charter flights. So not gone forever yet.
How was the vist yet again in my home state of Colorado? Lol I see things got a little bouncy there for a bit gotta love passing over those huge mountains wind just goes every which way but its an awesome view but i would take flying over them than the peaks of Nepal/Tibet for the turbulence I've seen on youtube looks extremely scary. Hey Traveler. Looks like the approach was getting kinda bumpy for a few minutes. And it is January in Denver, and there is no snow on the ground !! Is that Odd ? I suppose the surrounding mountains have an effect of land East of the ranges? And maybe the higher elevations for the slopes gets the snow. Hmmmm. Oh, there is a little snow here and there. "If you are connecting to another airline, Well, you made your choice, Good Luck !!"
Denver has always kind of intrigued me. It gets a good amount of snow every year. Like 40-60 inches per year. But there's almost never snow on the ground when I go there. Where does it all go 😂.
@@sla31 We get mostly small snow accumulations, like 3-6", which melts off pretty fast with strong west winds and low humidity that typically occurs afterwards. The warming downslope winds eat the snow pretty quick. And the OP was correct, the mountains squeeze out the moisture and most of it falls up there. Winter Park ski area is just 40 miles west of downtown Denver and they get around 350" of snow a year. It's amazing how much the mountains affect the weather here. For Denver to get heavy snow we need an upslope (easterly) flow of moisture, the low pressure system has to track along the southern part of the state, wrapping the moisture around and up against the mountains. Then we get hammered. But that doesn't happen very often, the conditions have to be just right. That's probably more than you wanted to know, but now you know! 😄
I was watching The Fly II (1989) and now, I'm watching your latest video. Wow... that movie was a total gross-out, but those people who experimented on him got what they deserved..Loved Daphne Zuniga in that movie. This was before she did Melrose Place. Lots of good views along the way, love the Colorado High Plains. Anyhow, keep winning those Olympic Gold Medals, keep reaching for that Million Dollar Prize, keep unleashing your Inner Tom Cruise and complete your Impossible Missions.
What are your thoughts on Southwest ending open seating? My feelings on it are mixed. While open seating is a cool quirk, it can be hectic if you’re not in the A boarding group. Also, here in Chicago, Southwest still mostly flies out of Midway, which is way more manageable and convenient than O’Hare, and they do still only fly mainline jets, which is a plus.
I'm 50/50 on it, so I don't know how to feel 😂 . On one hand, I'm a planner. I like to have a plan and know what's happening. So in general, I like having seat assignments. However, I've actually really grown to love the open seating on Southwest as it allwoed me to be ultra flexible. If the weather wasn't what I expected it to be when I booked the flight I could change my plan last second to get the better views on takeoff or landing. The open seating on Southwest also allowed me to take last minute flights and know that I was still going to get a good window seat thanks to my A-List status. That's all gone as soon as this goes into effect... So, I kind of like having a seat assignment, but I also am going to miss being able to change my plans or fly last minute knowing I'll still get a good seat. I guess only time will tell.
How is Southwest/Alaska Airlines if you absolutely hate flying Boeing 737’s? I would fly them whenever they start A320 operations again. Alaska A321neo was the best aircraft they ever had. Southwest needs to work on their service. For now, I’ll grab JetBlue airways A321neo
I mean, from a passenger comfort side the 737 lags behind the A320 in several key areas and I do prefer to fly A320's over 737's. That said. The airline and the crew make a big difference. And Southwest and Alaska crews, are IMO, the nicest and most friendly in the US. The other thing to consider is that Alaska and Southwest are the only two airlines left in the US that allow you to get frequent flyer status with them simply by flying them A LOT. They don't require you spend X amount of dollars to also qualify. You can get A-List status on Southwest simply by flying 20 one-way trips each year. And you can get MVP status on Alaska simply by flying 20,000 miles. Again, neither require you to spend X amount on top of that. So if you fly a lot and are savvy with the way you book your flights, you can get status on both for way cheaper than on anyone else. So for someone like me, who flies a lot, it's very beneficially for me to keep status on Southwest and Alaska over others. Alaska especially. Because that status you get also applies to all other Oneworld Alliance carriers. So, I'm MVP Gold on Alaska which you get by flying 40,000 miles and that then gets me that same status on and free perks on Japan Airlines, American Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Iberia, British Airways, etc. So I can put up with Alaska only flying 737's because it allows me to get a lot of perks on other airlines that fly way more than just 737's. Southwest it's more because I just really do love Southwest. Plus having A-List ensures I'll always get a great window seat.
@@sla31 My brother is a FF with Alaska. Aren’t they changing their program to make it more along the lines of American? With Southwest announcing radical changes (no more open seating and adding premium seating), unfortunately I look for Rapid Rewards to move in a similar direction.
I've never been terrified of flying. I love flying, but I don't think I will be flying anytime soon. Seems like the emergencies among the skies have started to become more often and I don't know if it's just me.
What's happening is situations are getting more coverage now than before. As with many things, the media sensationalizes tings and because of that you feel like it's happening more often, when it really isn't. Emergencies, turbulence, diversions, and incidents happen every single day in the aviation world, but that's not new. It's the way these incidents are dealt with and trained for that make aviation so safe. For example, everyone knows about the Boeing 737 Max crashes. And yes, those crashes were abnormal and shouldn't have happened, but... The way Boeing and the 737 Max have been scrutinized since by the media would make you think that it's horribly unsafe to fly on, and the the most incident riddled plane in history. When actually, it doesn't really have an incident rate any higher than most other aircraft. I recently saw a graph that showed all aircraft incidents in the last 8 months. It wasn't long after the Alaska exit plug incident and I think that was in January. Anyway, this graph showed all aircraft incidents worldwide for the time leading up to that incident. And again, you'd think with the way things are reported, that the 737 Max and Boeing would easily lead all aircraft types in incidents, right? When it was actually the exact opposite. Both Airbus and Embraer had more incidents in that time span, but no one hears about that because it's not what gets people to click articles or watch videos. Since the Max crashes, the media has had a magnifying glass on aviation as a whole and you're just hearing about things more. They were happening before too, you just weren't hearing about them on a daily basis like you do now. And that's not necessarily a bad thing. Increased awareness can only make what is already the safest way to travel even safer. There's a reason why there hasn't been a deadly crash in the US on a commercial flight in 15 years. And that was on a commuter airline. There hasn't been a deadly crash on a mainline US airline for 24 years. Because despite the media and headlines, the aviation industry is incredibly safe, even today. Thanks for watching my friend!
Years and years of practice haha. I mean, I hold the camera by hand, so there's really no secret except that I've gotten really good at it by doing it every week for 9 years haha. As for the background noise, I don't really do anything to it. It's just recorded like normal on the regular iPhone microphone. That said, if there is a very obnoxious noise in the background, like a baby screaming or drunk passengers, I'll dub the audio of that portion over from another flight. See, one of the benefits of flying so often is that I have audio from any aircraft and any seat imaginable at this point. I'll just go in and splice the two together to make sure all the mechanical sounds happen at the right time and voila, bye bye screaming child haha. Now, that's a very small portion of my videos that I have to do that, but I do have to do that on occasion.
They still exist. The company didn't disappear. They just ended all of their regularly scheduled operations. So no one can fly on them anymore. So, as far as a regular passenger looking to travel is concerned they kind of don't exist anymore. They're supposedly focusing on charter operations instead, but I haven't really heard if that's working out of them or not.
Great fly! Most of my money that I make from home is used for my road trip and book a flight along with booking hotel since my parents have to pay a lot of bill including home mortgage.
Well I can certainly consider it, but I can't promise it haha. American is far from my favorite airline to fly. My feelings towards American should be a case study on what airlines shouldn't do to lose loyal customers. I used to be fiercely loyal to American. I was Platinum Pro every year, and I flew American way more than anyone else. And year after year they just kept disappointing me over and over again. Two years ago I finally gave up and switched earning my Oneworld status on Alaska Airlines. I still fly American from time to time and I actually have some big flights on American coming up soon. But they are nowhere near my go to airline anymore like they used to be.
So my channel's handle "sla31" is what my username has been on pretty much every website for years. It's a callback to years and years ago when I started playing an online airline management simulator called Airline Mogul. My user number was 31. So Skylite Airlines "sla" and my user number "31." This was even my gamertag when I still had an Xbox Live account and Play Station Plus account. I suppose those accounts are still there, I just don't use them anymore. So, that's also where the name Skylite Productions came from. When I started this channel, I didn't know what to call it, and since I'd always used the name Skylite when playing, I called this channel Skylite too.
It's simple, upload videos to RU-vid because yo enjoy it and it's fun for you. You'll get better and better at what you do by doing it regularly, and the viewers and subscribers will eventually come.
