Koh yao Yai and its sister island Koh Yao Noi are situated in the middle of the famous and spectacular Phang Nga Bay, between Phuket and Krabi but still the islands have retained their authentic originality.
Koh Yao consists of two islands. koh Yao Noi (north Island) and Koh Yao Yai (South Island). The islands are only a 10 minute boat ride apart, so it makes sense to visit both islands if you have time available..
Koh Yao Yai is more remote than it`s sister island. There are not many accomodations and so is it with restaurants but the best beaches you find them in Koh Yao Yai.
The locals in both islands are mostly Muslims, therefore, you will find mosques in both islands and alcohol is not served in some restaurants.
Who is Koh Yao suitable for as a travel destination?
Koh Yao is the right choice if you are looking for a quiet island away from mass tourism. The time ticks more slowly here and both islands have an incredible cozy and tranquil flair. Touristy parties are nowhwere to be found, so you can definitely switch off and relax. If you are the kind of person that do not like doing nothing and much prefer places of action and adventure, then the islands are not a place for you...
Laem Haad Beach(also called Hua Laem Beach) is the most popular tourist attraction in Koh Yao.
This beach gives you a feeling that you are somewhere in the Caribean and is definitely worth visiting both during high and low tide. During low tide you can even walk over to Koh Yao Noi. In this beach there are no accomodations..
Loh Pared Bay Beach is located roughly in the middle of the island on the west coast and is the most
popular beach in koh Yao Yai in terms of tourism and a great spot to watch the sunset..
