Bourbon Street is a historic street in the heart of the French Quarter of New Orleans. Extending thirteen blocks from Canal Street to Esplanade Avenue, Bourbon Street is famous for its many bars and strip clubs.
With 17.74 million visitors in 2017 alone, New Orleans depends on Bourbon Street as a main tourist attraction. Tourist numbers have been growing yearly after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and the city has successfully rebuilt its tourist base. For millions of visitors each year, Bourbon Street provides a rich insight into New Orleans' past.
Largely quiet during the day, Bourbon Street comes alive at night - particularly during the French Quarter's many festivals. Most famous of these is the annual Mardi Gras celebration, when the streets teem with thousands of people. Local open container laws allow drinking alcoholic beverages on the Quarter's streets. Popular drinks include the hurricane cocktail, the resurrection cocktail, the hand grenade and the so-called "huge-a** beers" - a large plastic cup of draft beer marketed to tourists at a low price.

I live here and walk down Bourbon everyday on the way back and forth to work, this is super *dead* for New Orleans. Usually the crowds on Bourbon will fill the entire street from corner to corner, not crammed together but definitely filling the street. During holidays the crowd is absolutely *insane,* its hard to navigate the street due to how many people there are. You kinda just go with the crowd and spill into whatever bar looks promising, which is also similarly crowded. Corona really got this city fucked up, this is post-katrina level crowds which isn't good for all us hospitality workers. Please come visit!

I tell folks, New Orleans is my happy place! It is the stinkiest, nastiest, most fun place I’ve ever been! This is DEFINITELY a slow night on Bourbon. I go every year just to walk around the city, enjoy the music, the food, go to the museums, and then head to Bourbon St for the night life! Where else can you go to a Krystal’s at 2am and get burgers and drinks? Full service bar at a fast food joint! Lol! If you’ve never been to NOLA, I encourage you to go just once in your life. So much more to see and do besides Bourbon St.

I remember coming to NOLA for the very first time in 2009. It was very crowded on and around Bourbon St. I never got to see any ta-tas but the women got all the fun because the guys were getting drunk and dropping their drawers in front of everyone! I need to find time to come back and visit again and see the rest of the city since I was only passing through to Texas.

I remember visiting in early summer 1999. It was pretty crowded around Bourbon and Charter Street. Of course, the nightlife is second to none and even beats out Miami. One warning: if the parties get big, the beer flows like the Mississippi! And be careful walking under the houses. They are over 150 years old and those balconies do not look very sturdy. I remember avoiding them because one balcony was creaking loudly. It was jam packed with drunk girls struggling for a good view. Some guy got drunk at a bar and was waving his wing-wang at all the girls. And it wasn't even Fat Tuesday! The crowds were insanely huge.

I was just there. Saturday night was insanely crowded, one massive party from one end of Bourbon to the other (Canal to about I want to say Governor Nichols St, so it did stop short of Esplanade). Virtually no masking, kind of makes me wonder if this is going to result in COVID infections, but we'll see. I found the actual citizens of New Orleans to mostly be very kind, polite and friendly people, I'll miss them. The Bourbon street scene... had a couple drinks, it was fun, went back to the hotel at 9 pm. I'm too old for that to attract me back now lol. Did get beads thrown at me because my wife snuck behind me and lifted up my shirt on me, I guess someone thought my moobs were worth it, bless them I say they were being generous.

Neat video, though this was filmed during the COVID Pandemic, so keep that in mind. If anyone travels to NOLA and walks down Bourbon Street after the pandemic is over, you should expect the shops to be packed and much larger crowds on the street. You'll usually be walking very slowly, packed shoulder to shoulder together due to a crowd 10 or 15 times larger than what is shown in this video, even during non-holidays.

Depends where you're at, generally if you keep your head out of your phone and avoid people in general you'll be fine. Day time is pretty safe, there are plenty of people out and about and the areas around the quarter are pretty decent. At night avoid the empty streets 1 - 2 blocks running parallel to bourbon, they're usually dark and empty so provide perfect conditions to get into problems. Avoid walking Canal street late at night, especially around or after midnight on the weekends, it can be pretty rough. The McDonalds by royal and the Popeyes one block over are particularly rough, esp the Popeyes alley way. Armstrong Park in the quarter has a tendency for violence as well, although now a days they close it late at night. Just keep an eye out and avoid people, if you see a dark figure or a group on the street late at night change sides or blocks. If you take less populated streets usually there will be no one out and about.

@@agiganticwatermelon9162 thank you for this! I’m planning a road trip next year, will be during the week and daytime. (Never been myself) but what’s it like on a Monday. Only plan on being there for a hour or so. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks!

It can be but it not really that big a deal because it's a tourist area. Just be aware of your surroundings and enjoy yourself.

I'm shocked about the level of obesitas i've just witnessed. Holy F! Those people should take care for themselves. Like, really. I'm stunned and feel bad for 85% of the human beings i've just witnessed
