[4K Slow-Mo] Starship IFT-2 Supercut with clean audio and tracking!

[HEADPHONES ON] Enjoy this incredible audio and video from the launch pad and various locations for the most powerful rocket to ever fly, SpaceX's Starship for its second integrated flight test! 4K slow motion captured on ZCam's and BlackMagic 12K Ursa, RED Komodox and G2 4.6K with SIGMA lenses and Meade Telescopes.
SpaceX's second launch of the largest and most powerful rocket ever took place on November 18th, 2023, from Starbase, TX. Both the Super Heavy booster and the Starship upper stage were terminated by automatic flight termination systems prior to mission completion.
That being said, the test was largely considered a success as many new milestones were reached, including a full clean first stage burn, hot-staging, the launch pad's upgrades held up, and second stage was able to mostly complete its burn.

That zoom on Ryan's tracker is actually mind-boggling. You can see individual tiles fall off and hit the grid fins! Absolutely phenomenal job folks.

@JohnnyMotel99 Probably not. Space shuttle was able to return with missing tiles, but it generally depends on which tiles were missing. Obviously there was one mission where missing tiles caused loss of the orbiter, but keep in mind the ground team knew they were missing and thought the mission would be fine, because the occasional missing tile was usually no big deal. In early shuttle missions the lander would lose many tiles on every flight. Starship uses a stainless steel skin which is generally more heat resistant than the aluminum space shuttle frame, so I'd expect its ability to land with tile damage to be even higher. But obviously you'd rather not take the risk.

@@GatewaySpace Unclear. Stainless Steel was chosen for it's resistance to Temperature Fluctuations. There is definitely a limit, but how few needs to be assessed.

One of the trackers, I think the best one, was Jack Byers from NASASpaceflight channel. Tim should have gave them better credits. Another shot was Lab Padre channel owner and his wife, on the balcony. All 3 of these channels are must go to's. Awesome work!!!

The rewatchability of this is insane. Everyone did an amazing job. The tracking shots are blowing my mind and the unique rotor visual shot was epic, I also appreciate the wide shot behind the pilot of the drone too. I didn't realize it would be able to track starship that long. The audio quality and syncing is great. Edit: didn't notice the outro songs timing with super heavies explosion the first time. Nice editing choice and touch.

Its interesting sure, but not that re watchable, compared to Closely filmed tower and arm retraction shots of early Saturn V launches, the launch here was from a distance the early Saturn V shots were incredibly closely filmed at launch - so i would not be hugely impressed by the filming. Also the explosion of the first stage,although not unexpected occurred at such a high altitude that it amounted to just light in the sky.

Avoiding the use of glue as much as possible should be a goal. The reason so many tiles need it is because the studs can't be welded over the section welds. The stacking is not accurate enough for the studs to overlap those weld lines. Maybe if robots could add studs after the ship is stacked? I hope they solve this. Also, testing each installed tile for its level of adhesion should be part of the installation process of every tile. They did that on S28, so I hope it will keep more of its tiles than S25 did.

Imagine being around in 1961 when the Saturn V rocket launched successfully on it's first launch, and every launch after! 62 YEARS ago. That had to be MIND boggling....on in 1981 when the first shuttle successfully launched, and landed on their FIRST launch, 42 years ago.

It's a wonderful compilation of breathtaking videos!!!... The quality of the Ryan Tracker in Slo-Mo (14:51 - 16:56) is above and beyond what I would've expected!! I mean, HD, hyper focused from the top to the bottom up to the point where the insulation shield tiles can be seen falling, and the sound is as good as it can be!!!... WWWWOOOWWW!!!... the level of precision required for it to be that good is mind blowing!!!... Good catch! Looked to me like something was blown off the tower by the blast, started burning then exploded in flight. Don't think that was nominal but it seems to have missed all the cameras. Wonder if we'll ever learn what that was?

@@TheSpaceflightGuy Your timestamp: 1:47. Actually a few seconds before that you'll see a bright ember in the exhaust plume which grows then blows up and passes the cam position in multiple glowing streaks.

Watching the Nick and Ryan cams, you can see the heat shield tiles just peeling off a little at a time pretty early into the launch. Amazing footage from everyone. Thanks for sharing with those of us who can't be there!

Yeah. I've never been quite sold on this little tile pieces glued on thing. Gotta be a better way than that. But that stuff is so hard to shape or make in large pieces.
