They should have kept this ride and added more movies as a great movies came out.

I loathe Disney for getting rid of this. It’s unforgivable. This had to be one of the most underrated concepts for a ride. I love movies so much. And feeling like you’re there is insane.

I think getting rid of this ride is a big mistake. I think they should have updated it if they were going to do anything to it. This is always my favorite ride.

When I was younger like 17-this ride BLEW my mind. As an aspiring filmmaker, it was incredible. The Alien section was my fav since it's one of my fav movies of all time.

Why do I only have the most vague memories of being on a ride like this when I was a kid but can remember tiny pieces of it? I feel like the whole thing was a fever dream

Disney should've given Runaway Railway it's own ride building. This was a classic attraction and perfect fit for the theme of the park.

The "Alien" bit of this used to scare the absolute crap outta me when I was little.

I remember my grandmother adoring this ride, and she always made a point of us going on it whenever we went to MGM/Hollywood Studios. These were *her* films. Things she grew up with and still enjoyed. So of course she loved it! By contrast, I dreaded getting dragged onto it as a young kid. It felt so long and slow, with so much fluff between the stuff I actually recognized, and the gangster/cowboy scene and their death scene always freaked me out. After my grandma passed in 2006, my family still made a point to go on the ride whenever we were at the park to honor her memory, and I gained an appreciation for it. I was a teen by that point and had seen more of the movies showcased in the ride, and that made me understand the ride for the loving tribute that it was. I'm sad that I'll never get to experience it in person again if I ever get back to WDW. It felt like losing a bit more of my grandmother when it closed. Thanks for preserving the ride's memory.

This made me super emotional for me for some reason. Maybe because this was Disney at its best in making a good detailed ride , homage to the Golden Age of Hollywood, and the contribution with TCM and the great and late host Robert Osbourne! This was a favorite childhood memory riding this and this ride will be missed and remembered! I wish the new Mickey ride will have good luck and capture the imagination of the old and new generation! Just imagine what they could’ve done with today’s technology as far as animatronics for this ride. This was a great ride. Too bad they had to take it away. Thank you for the video.👍🏾✌🏾

genuinely sad that they closed this, it is one of my fondest memories and frankly i think it was the most unique ride EVER. the use of real actors added so much to the ride and frankly i dont think anything can compare to it

This attraction makes me tear up for my passion for film. I grew up watching TCM and their 100 Years of Movies and other compilations brings me so much joy. Robert Osborne ranks among my favorite people. I was lucky enough to see him live at the Hollywood Bowl for Music Under the Stars, where the LA Phil played scores from Hollywood's famous films. The amount of work and energy the cast members put into this ride is crazy. They were so dedicated, it was so cool. I remember every little moment of this ride it was the best ride ever. I wish they added on to it instead of removing it. The things they could do with the alien's scence, it would be terrifying.

I remember this ride when I was kid and realizing at the end how much I love film. How magical films really are

There's a smell at the alien part. I love it and I randomly smell it sometimes.

It feels so weird now that it's replacement is open, it's almost like a horizons at Epcot. So happy to have been able to experience it many times in person!

The driver changing and deaths seemed so real as a kid

This ride basically started my love of movies. Watching that Alien trailer in the queue when I was a small child was on one hand terrifying and on the other had me completely fascinated. I wonder how many kids will miss out on that same experience now that its gone :( replaced by some dime a dozen kiddie ride

Anyone else crying by the end of this??? Ugh... I can't seem to stop the tears any time I see or hear that Oz set in a TGMR video now that my visit during its final weekend was my last visit ever...

I will miss this ride. I wish I had the chance to get on it one last time when I was at Disney earlier this year. Problem was that there were lines everywhere so it cut down on how much I could do. I digress. This ride was the heart and soul of the park. It was fantastically done. The cast member performances ranged from unenthusiastic and cheesy, to total ham. And I loved it each time. It actually got me into watching a few of these old movies too. Now, they will tear it down for something new....a Mickey Mouse theme ride. Which while, it makes total sense to put in a Mickey ride, it's done in that god-awful animation they have now. It's saddening. I suppose now, I need to watch all the movies used in this ride. Just to get a sense of the full scope of it.

This closed 4 months before my last Disney visit, I wish I got to ride it one last time. Back in 2012 this was the ride that inspired 15 year old me to explore the world of film.

Really sucks to see this ride go, Hollywood studios is truly lesser without it...

I had the amazing pleasure of being cast in the role of tour guide at The Great Movie Ride in 2014 (before TCM ruined the ride and the tour guides gave the whole show) and I cannot ever explain how much I miss my Movie Ride and fellow cast members. Every day was so much fun and my GMR family was my world. My heart aches for the loss of my love. Thank you for this :)

I have been to Disney over 100 times and if they get rid of any more classics especially Carousel of Progress than I am out.

22:31 when Humphrey was at the end of his Casablanca bit and LOOKED at the camera and NODDED I was filled with so much emotion. I had never noticed it before, but the movie is very special to me as well. So right now I'm crying tears of happiness for classic movies and actors and actresses... what's new with you? 😭❤

Although this ride is a classic, the replacement is incredible and very high-tech. I highly enjoyed it!

They need to build a 5th park, to rebuild all of their old forgotten rides.

Oh my goodness, Bandit started singing the "Blood on the Saddle" song from Country Bear Jamboree during the Indy part!!!! I will forever miss this incredible attraction and the wonderful guides that truly made the experience.

This was my favorite ride I think last time I went to Disney every body was telling me it closed but I had to see it for my self I was devestated that it was gone

I was so excited to have just discovered this ride! I am 24 and this appeals to me and brings me to tears with sentimentality. I love old movies and knew All these songs. Maybe it’s a rarity to find someone my age who knows them, but I know what these movies added to my life and it is a tragedy to take away educational/fun ways to show them to the next generation. I was excited to just find this ride, and heartbroken to discover I’ll never ever ride it.

The Great Movie Ride sure was a great attraction, but Mickey And Minnie's Runaway Railway is great as well!

I have never been on this ride, as I live in California, it looks amazing, and it’s pretty sad to see the boats not filled with excited people

This was my favorite ride as a kid and I only started to appreciate it more and more as I got older. So sad it’s gone, but grateful for it getting me into movies and video editing (courtesy of the legendary movie montage at the end). I always wish they would have maybe updated the movie scenes instead of taking it all down. Always had fun brainstorming what more recent film would replace each genre scene. It wasn’t just a movie ride, it was a great movie ride

As a tribute to the “Great Movie Ride”, Macy’s did a pretty good job of doing the 4th of July Fireworks from NYC where the fireworks were set off in Lower Manhattan and on the Brooklyn Bridge. The music for the show featured a medley of songs from classic Hollywood films like “The Wizard of Oz”, “Superman”, “Star Wars”, “Gone With the Wind”, “Casablanca”, and more. It was a great show, and a tribute to the “Great Movie Ride” as well.

When they took this ride down I actually thought it was a joke, literally. It was like a Disney icon

I didn't know this closed. I haven't been to any Disney parks in years. I have amazing memories of this and many others. Thank you so much for sharing this!

Although the ride left WDW in 2017 I think the last time I rode it was 2014 ish (I was 11) and still really remember this ride as well as disneys Hollywood studios backlot tour sort of ride. Very sad both are no longer there.
