Cockpit view of approach and landing at Galeao - Rio de Janeiro Airport runway 10 in an overcast day. We were lucky, just after landing clouds gathered and the rain poured down.
Where are the mountains? Where are the beaches? Where is the Maracana ? Where the hell is Jesus? What about the sunshine ? I want my money back , this isn't Rio, this is Glasgow or some place!
Thanks, it's unusual to see an uploader that isn't like all uptight about their video. Equally, most of my scintillating witticisms probably hit a little wide of the mark. Seriously though, as a paying passenger I'd hate to fly into Cape Town and not get a view of Table Mountain, or New York and not get a view of Manhattan. Obviously, what you see out the window is what you see out the window but I just don't get the type of window seat Passenger who, the whole way across the ocean, will leave the blind open and then close it the last 10 minutes of the flight for fear they might see something beautiful or interesting. It's well-known of course that business class passengers are born unencumbered with Souls but how pressing is their business, how jaded are they, that when they get stacked it ruins their whole day when in fact it ought to make up for having to fly into the cities less glamorous Airport, or gives you something more stimulating to watch on approach than cows and swamps and industrial estates.
There are two airports in Rio. You would see all of that (beaches, mountains, Maracana) if you landed in Santos Dumont Airport, which is only made for local flights. The Internacional one (Tom Jobim) doesn’t have all of that in it’s route usually.
Depending on the era and the time the runways were alternatively used. This runway was used mostly by Varig in the early 2000s. This was way before Lula broke up Varig
