Scenic drive from Downtown Ventura to Downtown Santa Barbara via Highway 101.
U.S. Route 101, or U.S. Highway 101 (US 101), is a north-south United States Numbered Highway that runs through the states of California, Oregon, and Washington, on the West Coast of the United States. It is also known as El Camino Real (The Royal Road) where its route along the southern and central California coast approximates the old trail which linked the Spanish missions, pueblos, and presidios. It merges at some points with California State Route 1 (SR 1).
Ventura, officially the City of San Buenaventura, is the county seat of Ventura County, California, United States. Ventura lies between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara along U.S. Route 101, which was one of the original U.S. Routes. The highway is now known as the Ventura Freeway, but the original route through the town along Main Street has been designated El Camino Real, the historic pathway connecting the California missions.
Santa Barbara is a coastal city in California. Situated on a south-facing section of coastline, the city is nestled between the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean.

@@jimpurnell1117 good times. I used to live in Mandalay beach slash oxnard shores and would drive up to SB each day for school. Did you ever get stuck in the mud slides? Crazy that people stayed after the first time the hill came down. Im miss everything about SB except the cost of living. But cant be free to live in paradise. 👍🤘

I grew up in Santa Barbara then moved to Ventura county. I've driven that road a thousand times and never got tired of it. It's a beautiful drive🙂

Went to Ventura high school class of 1987 now live in Klamath falls Oregon. Never snows in Ventura cold snowy winters here in Klamath Falls Oregon no traffic here

Lived in Ventura following the residence of my grandparents and my mother all of whom lived in the city from 1928 to 1966. I and my children lived there from 1979 until our departure in 1993 when the high cost of living forced us to relocate to New Mexico. During the years I lived there, in the 1950s, I remember the bustling and lovely downtown area as being the only shopping available until the opening, in the early 1960s, of the Broadway Shopping Center, built after a multi-acre orange grove was torn up that had been owned by the Joe Chrisman family. I remember well that orchard, located across the street from Anacapa Jr. High School. Some of the 9th-graders used to spend time in the orchard during lunch hour, a few of them caught by the principal (who would often leave his office to walk across the street and investigate the orchard!) for smoking while trying to be hidden in the thick foliage of the trees. This school had just been completed to offer education to the many junior-high school-aged "Baby Boom" generation (1946-1964) Ventura kids who lived with their parents in the new tract homes recently constructed as expansion of the city moved eastward from downtown. I went to Loma Vista Elementary, Anacapa and Ventura High school--even graduated with an A.A. degree from Ventura College years later. It was very nice to "travel" with this video from my desk in Sapello, NM, and be able to see so many sights from my youth--Thank you!

Actually, if you're referring to the many tall palm trees you see, they are known as "date palms"--if they're not defoliated chemically, they naturally produce the wonderful brown & sticky dates.

Been in Ventura Co. for 60 years. Population was 200,000. Now it's 1 million. Imagine what this place was like with 80% less people and buildings.

I went to visit The city of Santa Rosa and I also visited San Francisco but I got the 101 in San Rafael since I went the back way. I prefer taking the 5 freeway over route 101 since that route is straighter and I also like the 5 more because the 101 goes through multiple coastal cities making it two hours longer.

I read that before this freeway was built in the 50s the owner of the dog that played Toto in Wizard of Oz lived in a ranch which is where the freeway is today. When Toto (actual name was Terry) died, she (yes, it was a female) was buried under the ranch and unfortunately her grave was destroyed when the freeway was under construction. Toto is buried somewhere under the freeway to this day.

So the video starts at the Ventura Botonical Gardens near the Police firing range. It then turns left on Summit Road and then right on Kolorrama (?) Street to Thompson.

My only suggestions would be to first let us know where you were starting from. I'm guessing the hills in Ventura.Little notes always help those that have never driven this. Also some easy background music would have added to it. Been several decades since I drove the Rincon Highway, what it was called when I lived in Santa Barbara. Other than that good work.

Unfortunately for a lot of people in Ventura (and even Oxnard) this is an almost daily trip, Santa Barbara has a lot of job oppurtunities but is really expensive to live in, so a lot of people like me live in Ventura instead and commute almost everyday to SB. It wouldn't be so bad, but the recent construction on the 101 has made the trip a bit longer. Still it is a nice scenic drive along the beach.
