The fact that they have to look so deeply to tell the difference, with the price of the 8k, tells you that you don't need no 8k

A price can’t fall by 500% (unless we are being paid to take them away), if a price drops 100% that’s free

8K is not worth the (todays) money. As resolution goes up, your TV size needs to go up. Also the viewing distance decreases. Virtually no content. AND they botched the entire experiment by revealing which was which right at the beginning. Average person, 4K will serve you just fine. 8k is not here yet and may very well not be for years to come.

The good thing about 8k - is that it forces the move to 4K transmission quicker.

The issue I have is that they used a 55inch 8K TV. 55inch is way to small to take in the difference which overtakes 4K completely. However if you want an 8K tv I would say go no smaller than 75inch. They are expensive but the quality difference should be considerable.

the 8K TVs of today are pretty useless. we're still slowly transitioning from 1080p to 4K, barely being able to put our 4K tvs to good use. i feel bad for the people who bought "3D" TVs about 10 years ago lol

The area where I live/work, a lot of my customers still have CRT televisions! All the old people I deal with can’t even figure out how to select HD channels on 101, 102 etc. 8K won’t reach Norfolk till 32K is available 😂😂

this is all flawed the moment they opened up with what each set is. 8k or 4k should have been last thing they revealed

Viewing this on Black Friday/Cyber Monday 2021, a 70 inch 4K TV @walmart going for just under $400. Looks like I can wait for next year to buy one that actually has 120hrtz. 8K looks to be around 3-5 years away from being common atleast.

So about 3 years ago, I finally made the change from a 1080p tv to a 4k TV and a 4K player. It was the entry level Vizio…big mistake. Replaced it with a Sony X90J about 7 months ago. Wow, what a difference. I’m done……until 128k. Oh, never mind. I’ll be dead.

4K is plenty for the home and projected, 8K for large venues.

Come on.. beside being 8/4k, one is edge lit while the other has a full array. One has a va and other an ips panel. One has a higher brightness as well. Same manufacturer yet but this is more like an lg ad lol. If both displays were level matched, calibrated and double blind tested it’d be better. After the first video they knew which one is the 8k. Firstly 8K makes sense if you go with bigger size in your room relative to your distance - like 85” while sitting 3-3.5meters away. Doesn’t make sense to go 65” from that distance as you won’t notice resolution difference. Secondly since 8K is already upscaling from 4k don’t expect it will do better with lower resolution than 4k tv. If you watch 4k content primarily then you will be fine as well.

That right screen has the wide angle filter? From an dramatic angle in the video, the 8k looks twice as bright.

I have a Samsung Q80T 4k (2020) and Samsung QN800A 8K (2021) and this review perfectly sums it up. The 8K outperforms in areas that you can only notice if you’re uncomfortably up close. The 4K upscale looks so much better than the 8K upscale. The 8K upscale image looks “soft”.

After test 1 they knew which TV was which. Wouldn't this bias the remaining tests? Adding a third 4k oled in would be interesting. So much more to picture quality than 4k and 8k, dimming zones, peak brightness, processing power, upscaling, tone mapping, bfi etc etc

There is a difference between 4K and 8K but the distance you need to be from the screen to see it isn't something any of us would be willing to do. The limiting factor is our eyesight and beyond a certain screen diagonal to viewing distance we can see the increased resolution.

No option to watch at 4k on my 4k TV, well done, glad I didn't waste my money on a 8k TV!

The same question was raised when FHD versus 4K. If you want to see the difference between 4K and FHD, with a 55 inch TV you need to sit within 1.6 m. I imagine that distance only gets shorter when it comes to 4K and 8k.

It’ll be a long time before 4K content looks less than awesome. It’ll be future proof for a good while yet.

8k would make sense for 65+ inch. But even 4k is crispy at that size. 4k will be a thing for a long time. And to be honest i dont need more.

I'm skipping the 16k and waiting for 32k... or maybe better to wait for 64k

I bought a 75" 8K TV and we sit 16 feet away. Or 9 feet away if gaming. I think the bigger sized TV's are better for larger rooms.

I believe we have reached a point where 4k will be enough for most consumers. To make 8k worth it you would have to either sit closer or have a larger screen. Then it becomes a question of space rather than the benefits of a higher resolution. Haven't personally viewed an 8k tv though.

Are both sets calibrated? If not, what is the point in a comparison because all you are doing is comparing the image on 2 wildly inaccurate TV's. Did you at least put them in to the cinema preset or the one that comes closest to correct colours, gamma, greyscale etc.?

Whether 8k is worth it depends on A) how soon we'll see more 8k content, and B) how big a TV people want to have. I have a 40-inch 4K TV and I can't really tell the difference from 1080p. I think it's telling that 8k TVs are breaking the 50-inch barrier. How many people REALLY want to have a TV that basically IS one of their walls?

LG uses IPS panels, so the whole thing about deeper contrast doesn’t really compare that well. It would’ve been a better comparison is you used a q90t vs a q900t. Or lg oled vs lg oled. ips panels are great for monitors but trash for TVs.

I'm still on a 1080p. I'm always behind in tech. I paid $200 for a 55" Samsung 2019 open box. I'm sure by 2025 I'll be able to pick up an 8K for $200 open box for a 50"

I'd like to see with the upconverting a 4k video. Yes it's fair to have done both at 1080, but would the 8k upconvert a 4k video to look better then the 4k can produce? If so then anytime you get a 4k video or blu-ray the 8k tv would become more of a sound choice.

Great review!! I think to make the difference between these two resolution clear enough, the screen size needs to be large enough. If the size isn't big enough, we need to stay really close to see the difference.

I would love to buy an 8k TV but I just can't see the point of everything I watch upscaled to 8k resolution. Plus the prices are very expensive right now. A lot of people have said that 4k native resolution looks better than 8k. Maybe as time passes 8k will be more attractive to me but for now I'm okay with 4k tvs. The only 8k TV I was really interested in was the TCL OD Zero miniled 8k models.

Cool, i was watching this in 144p because of my internet and i can say it looks cool!

Maybe ill get when I need a new TV in the future and when all the tv are 8k but for now 4k is fine for most people and actually better for most programs now.

Here in the US I'm in the market for a new tv. I can get a 4k 85" for half the cost. Plus no 8k content is out there for the masses.

Do the test on an 85 inch or larger and you'll see 8K win. The 55 inch test is useless!!

Yet the video quality on this is 1080p can't at least put it out on 4k!

I think the best way is to put it on a very large tv like 80 inch or above.

Maybe a little bit of a rigged test as they are both LG nano cell with a big price difference. Just for example the LG C1 which uses OLED would come out on top on almost all these tests and be the winner. The upscaling of 1080p content is a trivial software issue.

We all know that manufacturers trying to push 8k as flagships will try to make the 4k TV’s look less astonishing so people will start buying the 8k TV’s. As an example, for 2021, most 4k models switched to IPS panels whereas the 8k models comes with the VA panels.

There's point of having 8k tv. You can play games in 8k, watch youtube travel videos in 8k and watch upscaled (by special software) 4k movies to 8k. Also 8Ks are big screens and they offer the best color quality anyway.

So two years on and the situation has barely changed. 8k content? Do me a favour there's still hardly any 4k available! Go into your local retailer and check the 4k demo content or the store mode on your own TV it's stunning but it isn't what you will get as standard fare. Most stuff on the UK based streaming services is just upscaled HD or the download speed is strangled because there isn't enough bandwidth to cope with the extra data usage required and then any genuine live 4k sport is kept behind a paywall. 4k discs have remained hideously expensive at around £24 so that's still a niche market years after they first went on sale. We are now being told (conned more like) that to get the best out of 4k and 8k if it ever happens is to buy tellys so big they need planning permission or three people to lift them up and industrial strength mounting brackets to stop them falling off the wall. That or sit with our noses up against the screen! For many of us with 4k TV's with HDR buit in is we actually get WORSE pictures because that new feature makes the picture darker and there's no way to change it! Full HD is probably about as good as it gets in fact quality FHD is often better than 4k. The human eye can't register detail beyond 4k even close up and the usual viewing distance means any "visual improvement is negligible. 8k is pointless unless you are a premier league footballer with more money thsn sense, a massive country mansion and a your own built in cinema/TV room. Enjoy your 8k TV but don't be surprised if you never see any native content on it.

On a 55 inch tv full Hd 1080p is satisfactory. Really cant complain. 4k is double that at 2160p But if you play between them that is 1440p ,you can be fooled its at 4k also. So to try 8k on a tv of this size is a fail. As another comment mentioned. 75 inch screen above which is home theater size is where we can appreciate 8k.

Worst 4K and 8k TVs though because the contrast is bad on these nano cell TVs but good video still.

Upscaling is normally done by an AV receiver before it gets into the TV so that test is questionable

This was pointless! You have to use actual 8k content on the 8K tv (like the photograph comparison) to make it a fair comparison (which isn’t available? Or is extremely limited). All this shows is if “upscaling” to 8k is worth it or not? I give it 2 years to see 8k content being released more frequently to 8k users, but at a higher price!

6:45 I'm gonna call that unfair. 8K TV upscale is to upscale 4K CONTENT, not 1080p. Then, similarly to a 4KTV upscaling 1080, it's only 4x the pixels going 4K to 8K.

4K is starting to become the norm now and it’s affordable which is great, no point in upgrading to a higher res display.

neither test did a black level test.. It's black levels which are important v 4K OLED. I need to know where to put my money.. 8K LED or 4K OLED?

Just look at all the pixels that have to be filled in to upscale much lower resolutions.

I'm still rocking a 1080p TV which is incredibly sharp and detailed. I can read fine print on it and resolve the pores on someone's forehead as it is. LOL! I don't need to see the atoms that make up their body now. But if I do, then I'm waiting for Ultimate High Definition! I hereby officially declare that (16,000 x 9,000) is Ultimate High Definition! True 16K! 😋

Ironically 8k is only useful for when you are at gaming distance and not viewing distance from the screen. 8k gaming is even further away than 8k video content.

the question now is if 1080p content looks better on a native 1080p tv vs upscaled to 4k.

8K is worth it if you got like a 80 inch plus TV .... but my 4K TV is fine since its 55 inch ...

Streaming for 8K simply is not going to happen for at least another decade. Heck 4K isn't really stable on many platforms still. Takes way too much processing power.

When they said the hertz difference they literally spoiled the whole "Which one is 8K" thing. Of course the lower hertz one is more likely to be the 8K due to how the 8K increases the price

4k is not gonna be obsolete for a very long time, just like 1080p is not obsolete right now. 4k will have superior refresh rate for a very long time until 8k high refresh rate or 8k gaming becomes a common thing. I have never seen an 8k tv, but just from looking at how dense the pixels are on 4k, it is just incredible. I can't distinguish a pixel to another pixel from 5 inches away on my mom's 4k monitor. So 4k right now is definitley still great.

4K vs 8K .... RU-vid video is 1080p. Come on guys. This video would need to be in 16K for the distance for us do be able to tell.

I love to watch old movies and series if what they said is true about 4k is better at lower resolution i think i settle with 4k. Plus if it must be hard to play with so much details on screen on the PS5.

well from FHD, 2k 4K to 8k if you are in this century then you're lucky to have that choice to make because all on these are great century image quality upgrades, then you just have to make choice about your budget, that's it... 1st if you're poor find a great FHD screen as we've been usung before ps4 the quality still great, in 2nd if you're a middle class budget person then get a 2k screen because 2k and 4k don't have much differences, in 3rd for high middle class budget person get the 4k screen no need of 8k because between 4k and 8k eyes don't see the difference, then in 4th for rich people as you got the budget for it go for 8k then, bigger and expensives are just better for sure but sometimes not... but truth is we don't need 8k tvs or more K tvs because from 4k the evolution of tv history the 4k technology is the blast blowing eyes mgic explosion that man kind has made, 4k is so much clear enough to know that 8k and more are just commercial noise for brand to make more money on us... we must be clever, even if i was rich i will not go 8k not because i need it but just because i can get it to know that OK NOW I GOT SOMETHING JUST A LITTLE BIT BETTER THAN MY PREVIOUS 4K TV BUT NOT THAT MUCH BETTER... the BETTER level of having 8k or more K compared to 4k is too small and so small, clever people with less cash don't buy 8k, but sure there are still foolish poor people who spend their last cash to get the better setup in their houses and that's so sad, i mean come on guys these are just for fun use, we got more important to spend on... right? ...well see you....
