Izmir's Sığacık Old Town is a charming and historic part of the Turkish coastal town of Sığacık, located within the Seferihisar district. Known for its tranquil ambiance, historic architecture, and rich cultural heritage, Sığacık Old Town is a delightful destination for visitors seeking an authentic Turkish experience. Here are some key highlights and features of Sığacık Old Town:
1. Sığacık Castle (Sığacık Kalesi)
Built during the reign of the Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent in the 16th century, Sığacık Castle is a prominent feature of the old town. The castle's walls enclose the historic part of Sığacık, offering visitors a glimpse into the past with its well-preserved fortifications.
2. Traditional Architecture
Wandering through the narrow, cobbled streets of Sığacık Old Town, visitors can admire the traditional Turkish houses. Many of these houses have been restored and are now used as shops, cafes, and guesthouses, preserving their historical charm while offering modern amenities.
3. Sığacık Market
Every Sunday, Sığacık hosts a local market where residents and visitors can buy fresh produce, handmade crafts, and local delicacies. This vibrant market is a great place to experience the local culture and taste traditional foods.
4. Teos Ancient City
Just a short distance from Sığacık, the ancient city of Teos is an archaeological site of great historical significance. Founded in the 11th century BC, Teos was one of the twelve cities of the Ionian League. Visitors can explore the ruins, including a well-preserved theater, temple, and agora.
5. Seaside and Marina
Sığacık's location on the Aegean Sea provides beautiful coastal scenery. The marina is a picturesque spot to enjoy the view of the sea, watch the boats, and dine at one of the waterfront restaurants.
6. Local Cuisine
Sığacık is known for its delicious seafood and traditional Turkish dishes. Many restaurants in the old town serve freshly caught fish, mezes (small dishes), and other regional specialties.
7. Cultural Events and Festivals
Sığacık Old Town hosts various cultural events and festivals throughout the year, celebrating local traditions, music, and arts. These events offer a vibrant and lively atmosphere for both locals and tourists.
8. Art and Craft Shops
The old town is dotted with small shops selling handmade crafts, jewelry, textiles, and other artisanal products. These shops are perfect for finding unique souvenirs and supporting local artisans.
9. Friendly Atmosphere
One of the most appealing aspects of Sığacık Old Town is its welcoming and friendly atmosphere. The local residents are known for their hospitality, making visitors feel at home as they explore the town.

There is a public bus that goes directly from Izmir to Sığacık and it runs every day. You can take ESHOT bus number 985 from Fahrettin Altay metro stop and go to Seferihisar. You can also take bus number 640 from Seferihisar and reach Sığacık in 15 minutes. I take this information from google.i went there by car 🚗
