In the late afternoon of November 19, 2020, at 4:00 p.m. the Christmas lights were switched on in Bahnhofstrasse, Zurich. "Lucy" is the name of the Christmas illumination in Zurich's Bahnhofstrasse, illuminating the Bahnhofstrasse shopping mile for the 11th time this year. Its name is inspired by the Beatles' song "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds".
In previous years, the lighters were only switched on at 6 pm. To avoid crowds of people in times of corona, in 2020 the lights will be switched on 2 hours earlier at 4 pm.
Night Shopping:
By flipping the light switch, "Night-Shopping" on the same day also kicks off the pre-Christmas shopping events. On this day or night, around 400 stores in Zurich participating in the event are open longer in the evening. In previous years this was until 22:00 hours.
