One of those alien races was trying to do to Earth what Omni-Man had done to them single-handedly. They needed an entire army to mimick just a fraction of his power.
It absolutely broke my heart when the original Guardians were so upset over Omni Man's betrayal that most of them retired from crime fighting and disappeared off the grid. 😭 At the very least the Strong Twins managed to convince The Immortal to come back.

4kids is slightly nostalgic for me because it was the first time I got to see Dragonball, but once a friend of my dad's gave me his old vhs tapes from the 90s there was no going back😂
They are a joke but I'm happy that they existed given the hilariously dumb alterations and censorship similar to Ocean Dub DBZ. Also they gave us memorable moments and openings.
