4Minute - Hate (Areia Remix) 

Arranger's Words: When I first read about 4minute making a comeback with Skrillex music I probably wasn't as excited as everybody else. The reason is that no matter who makes the music, it's a pop company's management that will take the final decisions. That means that Skrillex was extremely limited and after all the target was to produce a pop song not an EDM hit that some pop fans might like but most would find loud and irritating. That's where I come in. As it usually happens when I start a remix for the past few years, I took my time to watch and understand the original, read the lyrics carefully, decode the music video and then finally create a vision for the remix. One thing was for sure: this remix would be as dirty as they come. I started with the drop. I created a hard hitting drums arrangement and made sure there is a fat sub bass under it. Then layer by layer I started adding and refining all the growling sounds always making sure they are up to standards. About 95% of all the sounds I created they were thrown away as they were not just "there". After finishing the top line, I have added some extra rhythmic elements so everything makes more sense. I then proceeded with the intro and the verse. I have kept the original chord progression because I think it really works well. I had many ideas for there but most were sounding just cheese and unrefined. So I have decided to go with adding a lot of movement to pad sounds that would guide the listener through the song and up to the dirty drop. I have also done some reverse reverbs and filtered delay on the intro vocals to enchase the atmosphere. During the second verse (the rap part) I have decided to retain the hard sounds and growling sounds to fit the rap better. Transitioning from Dubstep to Drumstep was something I have already decided upon before I even start on the song, thus the extra BPM to make it all sound better and more energetic. So during the last chorus, the rhythm doubles and we are moving into a dirty Drum N Bass style till the finale of the song. There is a lot of other work in the remix, like generation of low octave vocals and a new rhythm for them. I have also changed the order of some parts and completely re-arranged the video including creating some new sequences for the drops and other parts by putting video chops together and reframing. I have really felt this song and I believe it was half way there for this remix with the incredible work that was done for the original song. Hope you enjoy and thank you very much for watching!
