Oil cover thingy-the screws are 8mm

You should always clean off with a clean cloth the filter mating surface on the block as you don't want any debris on that surface that might stop the filter gasket from sealing properly.

Why have you not pre-filled the new oil filter ?

Why didn't you clean off the oil base plate before you put on a new oil filter?
