Yeah I'm digging those legs! How did you make them? Did you just slice a single piece up into 10 separate pegs and then glue those machine bolts in there?

@@wallinkevin I used HDPE one-sided TAPE for the contact surface of my drawers.. Think on Amazon for around $10. Super Slick, durable surface. Good IDEA on the PEGS ! (Stealing)

It's been so long I don't really remember. The most expensive part was the plywood. I purchased two 4x8 foot sheets plus hardware and legs. I'd guess not more than $300-400 usd.

I used hanger bolts like these: www.homedepot.com/p/1-4-in-20-tpi-x-2-in-Coarse-Standard-Steel-Plain-Hanger-Bolts-4-Pack-809321/204273740 Just drill a pilot hole in the leg, then on the hanger bolt you tighten two nuts together, then you can drive the stud or hanger bolt into the leg. Just Google jam nut and you can figure it out. Pretty simple. To attach the leg assembly to the plywood I used these tee nuts: www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-1-4-in-20-Zinc-Plated-Tee-Nut-4-Pack-802301/204274194?MERCH=REC-homepagehorizontal1_rrNA-204274194--N Simply drill a hole where you want the leg and tap in one of those nuts. The sequoia should definitely help with interior space. Unfortunately I sold the 4runner a while ago. All that I can tell you is that I built it to the same height as the wheel wells.

If I remember correctly I think I just picked up 1-1/4" wooden dowel from home Depot. Cut them to the length you need, drill a pilot hole in one end and install the hanger bolts.

They are not all the same length. I had to label each leg with a letter/number and mark the bed platform with the same. That way I can keep track of which leg goes where.

@@wallinkevin thanks for the reply! I had all the wood cut out today (just the top 3 pieces) and I made them too wide to fit through the trunk so will be adjusting tomorrow. I got the bed today, I can’t wait to have the set up functional

Hey Richard, unfortunately I do not have a video of the build. And no I don't have any dimensions. I was just flying by the seat of my pants when I made it. I no longer have the 4runner or the bed platform.

It's very comfortable once everyone is settled in. It's getting to that point that's difficult. Eventually though, we ended up selling it and moving up to a larger vehicle. Even though it was cramped we still used it on countless trips. Many great memories. The best thing about the set up is it showed us we could travel inexpensively and more often which is totally worth it in our opinion. Hope that helps!

@@BrianHallmond Thanks! Yes definitely wish I would have made it lighter. So either remove material with a big hole saw or strategically use 1/2" ply where the strength isn't needed! Also, I wish I would have spent more time finish sanding. Otherwise it was rock solid!

Good question, no they don't but we do keep them fully loaded with camping gear 24/7. That might help. The bed part that flips over DOES rattle though. I would like to fix this eventually with thumb screws or something. Not sure yet. When it's in bed mode though, nothing rattles which is awesome for road trips.

Thanks for the input. I'm definitely planning on doing another one and was hoping to use 1/2 inch ply. Maybe a mixture of both 1/2 and 3/4 would be perfect.

Hey! Yeah those dowells act as legs and support the weight of the sleeping platform. They are not drawer stops. They are surprisingly sturdy honestly. Even I wasn't sure what to expect but they've held up great over time. Thanks for watching!

Hey! Sorry man I sold the 4runner a few months back. The bed platform sat flush with the top of the wheel wells. So from there to the roof and subtract the thickness of the mattress. It was too tight for our liking but we still used it all the time and had many great trips.

Unfortunately I sold the 4runner so I couldn't tell you. But I will say it wasn't enough room for me. I would recommend looking at a gx470!

It's a full size mattress. I only trimmed off maybe 3 inches or so. Super easy with a bread knife. If the rear seat bottoms were removed from the vehicle the mattress wouldn't need to be trimmed. I did remove the rear cargo deck. It's an easy two bolts if I remember correctly.

My 4runner does not have a 3rd row seat. I've seen some 4runners that do though. I'm sure you could do something similar in the durango!
