✨✨✨ It's CURRICULA WEEK! Be sure to check out the playlist to see lots of great secular resources for various grades and home education styles 😎 What grades are your kiddos starting this year? What subject are you most excited to cover in your homeschool?

We have so much in common 😂 Keeping it simple, family style grammar, etc. This looks like a great year!

Thanks for sharing! 🤗 I'm looking at my curriculum and I'm finding myself going secular more and more. For math I would suggest you do odd problems on odd dates of the week and even problems on even dates of the week. That way your daughter gets a good mix of problems.

Hi, I love your curriculum picks and thanks for sharing these! We decided to drop handwriting too, didn't think my son needs it anymore 😊

I started using Beowulf Grammar with my son this year too. He’s in 3rd grade but we really only did some basic grammar in the past. I struggled looking for a grammar curriculum until I came across this. We’re currently working through Adjectives so we’re not really far into it but he likes it so far. Every time we do grammar he has to make sure that we get Beowulf out to do the lesson with us. 😂

The issue specifically on the amount of work within the Dimensions program is one that I've heard often. It's such a solid program and it's engaging, but the workload is heavy. I have a video coming out next week on Singapore Primary US and the difference between US and Dimensions is something I touch on. And like you said about just assigning what you think is necessary and leaving the rest- that's usually my answer to all curricula with heavy workloads 😆I'm happy you have it figured out. I also feel you on simplifying this year. I have so many half used workbooks on supplemental subjects and my brain cannot organize it all to fit this year.

I love using Core Knowledge too :) I also have a daughter who is reading well above grade level. We have also decided to forgo a formal reading curriculum. One of the things we are going to be working on (5th grade) is annotating novels. I'm using our questions from our nature study- I notice, I wonder, It reminds me of- as the basis for this. She reads for a set amount of time and then records these prompts. Besides this I wanted to share that Rigorous Reading has a wonderful resource called Any Novel. It's a set of comprehension worksheets that you can use with any book. And lastly, I wanted to share that Blackbird & Co has a wonderful list of novels at different grade levels if you ever need help picking more.

I loved mavis beacon! My favorite lesson was the chameleon that would snatch the letters I typed off the screen with its tongue 😂 Did you ever find a good typing class that was similar?

@@Bamberdoodle nothing exactly like Mavis, but we love Typesy! I have an older video on it, and I also talk about it in my latest curriculum picks videos - the first of which is out today!

I’ve encountered the same issue with Dimensions. I just ended up cutting the problems in half. I agree that the way it teaches is fantastic, but the workload is too much.

I had that same problem originally with Math U See. I tried way to hard to do EVERYTHING. and it just wasn’t working.

Why do we put that pressure on ourselves? So silly 😅

I love Dimensions as well! Cutting back on the number of problems is a good plan. What reading assessment did you use? I’ve been searching for a proper one 😅.

I used Dibels ORF Assessment. They're a bit tricky to find, but start by Googling that phrase + grade level. They go up to 8th 🤓

I used the Diebels ORF assessments. They're a little hard to find, but technically free online. Try googling "Diebels ORF ___ Grade"
