We are one month in to Bookshark and I feel the same about the info. There is not enough. I am already looking at other curriculum for next year. I like it but I just need more, especially for the cost. Thinking about Build Your Library.
First video I've ever watched of yours do forgive me if you've tried these before. My middle child just finished 4th grade and we also used Abeka Language along with IEW so maybe our homeschool styles are similar. We used BJU for history and science and I still had them read books from the library that tied into the time period. I like that BJU is straight forward, gives a script to the parent, has hands on activities - especially in science. We also add in videos for our visual learners - Bill Nye the Science Guy, Liberty Kids history, National Geographic, etc. You don't have to do the quizzes and tests or activity guides. You could do note booking, science projects, or research papers. Just because you use a textbook as your base doesn't mean it has to be boring. Same is true to literature based, you can add workbooks to it. The beauty of homeschooling is there's so many options!!
Thank you so much for this comment!! And I'm pretty new so you have likely not seen me before and I love this info!! We did so many new things this year. I have been so tempted to try something from BJU and I feel like I'm finally just now, after four years, really getting comfortable with changing things up and modifying them to meet our needs. This was very helpful and I will be looking into all the tips you mentioned. So helpful!!
I don’t homeschool my kids but considering their current curriculum, I’m looking to supplement their education with more learning at home. I found this video helpful and will be looking at some of the material you mentioned. I understand that all this involves a lot of printing, so I am looking for recommendation for printers. Which Epson model would you recommend and why? Thank you!
That’s great you want to supplement! I think it’s so important that no matter what type of schooling your children do - traditional, homeschool, hybrid, etc - that parents are involved at home. I have an Epson Ecotank 2850 and it has worked very well for us! It’s not super duper fast but that doesn’t really bother me. I have printed more than a thousand pages in full color and it isn’t even half way through the ink yet so that’s my favorite thing. Mine also prints double sided which I love.
I subscribed to you as well!! Thanks for checking out my channel. 4th was a little crazy for us but it’s because I’m really starting to get my footing becoming more eclectic.
