I value your reviews and expertise in things related to 4Wheel Driving. I just purchased the new re-invented GY Duratrac. More siping, 3 ply sidewall mileage warranty. Installed on 2023 LR Defender 90 the tire is quiet at new and great traction. Only time will tell if it proves to be better than the old Duratrac.
all those so called tyre reviews by often reputable mags etc I always take it with a grain of salt due to cash for comments issue but this one I can fully trust as it already has a pinch of "Pepper" - very useful mate thanks
a A very similar process of analysis to what I went through. Today I am a 1 brand man. I am a Cooper Tires man. Have run Coopers for the past 20 years. Not the absolute best but a good balance of performance and value I have found.
Excellent content. Leaps and bounds ahead of any other review I have seen on this tire (and realistically, probably the best review out there). I’m curious about a few things if you have the opportunity to comment please: 1. Is there any difference between Goodyear Wrangler Duratec and Duratrac. Might be a difference in naming across regions. I am in Saudi Arabia and we have the Duratrac, but it looks like it’s the same tire. 2. What load rating have you used? C, D, E? And what would you change that if you could do it over (and to what load range)? 3. Have you tried the BF Goodrich KO2s and how would you compare sidewall toughness between the two? Much appreciated.
Thanks! 1. Not aware of any difference, didn't know there was a name difference. That is not unusual as what is a legal name in one country may not be in another. 2. I don't recall the load rating. I do ensure the tyres are LT construction which is a little different. With 4x4 tyres load rating typically isn't a problem, speed rating often is. 3. Not recently run KO2s so cannot compare sorry.
Hi Robert Thanks for the top quality informative of work. The tire size 235/85r16 (AT from BFG as an example) what do you think of it? Would it be possible to use it on your Ford Ranger as another option to what you already have? It is supposed to be the same diameter (about 31.7 inches), but smaller width and less weight, and also compatible with a smaller width and less weight wheel. Interested in your opinion on this option. Cheers.
Yes 235/85/16 is a great size, ran it on my Defender for years, work very well. The Ranger is designed for 265s though so that's what I run, and I have 17" rims not 16s.
@@L2SFBC Thanks mr.Robert.. From your experience.. I have a Toyota Hilux with 16" rims. Should I go with the wide (265/75r16) or the narrow (235/85r16)? Which is the preferred choice for use on loose sand terrain? We don't have mud, but always sand.
You can give Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain+ a try. Heard good things so far. Maybe you can also confirm. And a question. How much more air should there be due to tire construction being LT?
The name is actually Duratrac, if you expand the sizing page you can see the name on the side wall. My brother has two of these and three ko2's in 285r75/16 on 8" rims, compared to the ko2's the tread width looks too narrow for the carcass, they're a bit noisy and one had to be plugged in the center of the tread. But in saying that they seem to work well, as good as the ko2's and they don't pickup stones like the ko2's.
