This table arrived well packaged and on time. ru-vid.comUgkxn94T8Mu1iMnsLCMNOI9srXSsLkI4JXKW Like another reviewer advised, I pulled everything out and made sure everything was included (everything was!). I built it alone and it took me about an hour. The color is great and for the price the lift part works well. As others have mentioned, it’s not the smoothest opening/closing, but it works. The screws do show, but I plan to order white sticker covers if that bothers us too much. Really happy with this table! UPDATE: it’s been over a year since we got this coffee table and we still love it! It gets HEAVY use as our dining table, foot rest, and school desk. Over time, the opening and closing mechanism has gotten smoother. I added a new photo with the white screw cover stickers. They blend in perfectly and make it look a little cleaner. 100% recommend!!!

This is a valuable addition to my woodwork collection ru-vid.comUgkxkNYRBJuiJ6EwD-tQSAlxg0eFKsnR2cgz I still will rate this woodwork plan as the best in my reference library. It always seems to stand out from the rest whenever you go through the library. This is a masterpiece.

After searching for so long I believe I've finally found the console table for my son.. This will be the very first time working with concrete. Thank you. I watched the video twice and will watch it again after I get all the materials for this project.

Loved making this table (actually still need to pour the cement). The takeaways I have for anyone aiming to build it are 1) He mentions planing the wood...I did this as an after thought when my joints were not meeting up as cleanly as they should be. Lumber from a typical big box hardware store is not going to be furniture grade, so planing it (if you have the equipment) is recommended as the wood I was finding was not straight. 2) Be sure to sand the wood before you start to assemble it...at least sand the inside edges which will be difficult to reach once it is put together if you plan to use an orbital sander or any other electric sander. 3) He saves some of his cuts after he has completed some of the assembly of his table to ensure the pieces fit as tightly as they should. I followed his measurements exactly but somehow the gap between the inside “box” and outside two boxes was too significant, so I had to re-do some cuts. If you watch him closely in the video, you will see how he is doing it...seemingly piece meal. 4) I filled every bolt hole with the dowel except those that held the bolts that connected the square boxes to other boxes (there are 4 such bolts)...reason being, I wanted to be able to disassemble the table in some capacity if need be for repairs or for moving, etc without having to tear the table up to remove the dowel to access the bolts...plus, these bolts are either covered by the top or face the floor so they are never seen.

@joy9073 Год назад
Do you think is necessary to cover with a dowel those holes, or it'll look OK leaving them exposed? The wood that he used is Kiln Dried SPF Posts, in the instructions. I don't know if I can find that kind of wood. 🥺
@BanksHolcombe
@BanksHolcombe Год назад
@@joy9073 I would fill the holes with putty, if you don't want to use the dowels. The dowels are really easy however putty would be an option you could consider. The reality is, if you don't fill them, you will see exposed holes where the screws were inserted. As for the wood, I bought 4x4 (redwood I think?) posts from Home Depot which may or may not have been kiln dried. As mentioned in my post, the challenge you will face with big box lumber lies in the likelihood that it won't be straight which will impact how each piece lines up with you join them at the corners. I have a planer which I used to address that issue but appreciate that many will not have access to that piece of equipment.
@joy9073
@joy9073 Год назад
@BanksHolcombe thank you so much for the information. My only fear is that the posts might not be straight. I don't have a planer, so that's another thing to take into consideration, bcz I won't be able to fix the problem. 😵

THANKS for sharing this project! All of your stuff is inspiring (and gets me off my butt!). One note - just a humble opinion though I am no expert, for sure - your videos are the best laid out and put together of just about any I have seen -- concise, clear, attention grabbing and helpful. World class.

Hey Rogue, Fellow Michigander here. Wondering if your wife could tell us more about how she stains? Tips/tricks? I built a pergola a couple months ago beginning the COVID quarantine and all I got were runs & drips on my 4x4's. I used a pergola system so technically I didn't really 'woodwork'. The finish on this table looks incredible and I'd love to hear how she managed this success! I am so excited that you share your cut/plans too because I'm so ready to dive into so many DIY's. Your and your wife's videos are so helpful! :D -Alex-

A few questions that maybe y’all could help me with (I only ask because I was unable to get the plans to open): 1: how long were the lag screws used? 2: did y’all bolt down the concrete to the wood? I am attempting to build this after watching your handy video! Thank you for the idea and beautiful “look” for our entryway 😬

Instead of the wire mesh, fiberglass flakes, or styrofoam beads could be used. It will lighten up the concrete but also give it strength!!! At least the fiberglass flakes will...

Really love this project! Might try to make a modified version with a different shaped top to fit my entry area. What was the finish you put on the wood? I like that it took construction grade lumber and made it look really beautiful and not so yellow like is normal. Thanks Jeremy

I need to make this 72" long for the 9' long wall I have at my home. Do you think is possible? I love the design, I do love the concrete but I can't make it. Where did you use the 1-⅝ wood screws, your instructions say that, bcz the only screws you mentioned in the video are the 5"

Sure is, it has finer aggregate in it so it fills the forms better and leaves a smoother surface. Haha, she's the one usually doing all the work. I just happen to get it on camera this time.

Hi. I get that concrete is heavy but for a high traffic area, I don’t see how this could be safe (kids) if the top is just resting on the legs. What would be a good way to secure the top to legs without compromising or breaking the concrete. I’m looking for a pro answer, as I see he hasn’t answered the same question that was asked by someone else.
@lmclark717

What are your thoughts on recessing J-hooks in the concrete before it set? This would allow the two units to join securely, or is it almost impossible to knock the concrete off the base. Thank you.

The wire mash (rebars) should sit towards the bottom, not the middle and not the top. You can use a vibrator to get the air out. Just dip it in.
