Hi thanks to confirm my theory. I have been using esave for a while now, and notice I do save. The theory is simple stop and go in the city driving use more fuel then steady hiway speed. So to me make sense to keep battery level for more stop and go 😁

One thing to consider is the topography. I live on the east coast and whether it's my wifes Volvo hybrid or my Ram 2500, I got better mileage travelling from Lake Placid NY vs the other way to the tune of a couple of miles per gallon,

hybrid mode is basicaly just a set it and forget it kind thing, but its dumb(the system), because it doesn't understand what kind of driving/ location you are going to. BMW's plug in hybrid does it in a way where if you use the car's navigation system and plot a course, it will try and optimised your fuel/electric usage. it will do the same thing that you just did using esave on the highway and use electric in the city.

Wow, what a great experiment. Really cool results. Did you happen to noticed the direction of any wind in either direction? I started working on an experiment along these lines once and noticed some really odd results that seemed impossibly high on one direction and weirdly low in the other. I was able to get some wind data from the day and I saw where the wind was skewing my results. I had to scrap the video files from that experiment.

Great video. How much does it cost to charge the battery at home . Thanks.

Full charge takes 15kWh of electricity, at my office peak rate plan it costs me $3.22 to charge. Rule of thumb is that full charge will get me about the same miles travel as a gallon of gas so as long as gas costs more than $3.22 a gallon, it is saving me money to charge up. Beyond just the pennies-level saving it is far more convenient to charge at home and only need to go to a gas station about once a month. Pennies do add up though, I figure it is saving me about $500 a year.

I'm rather shocked at how poor hybrid mode did. I have a 2018 Chevy Silverado 3500HD 1 Ton Dually with the Duramax diesel, and at just over 60 mph for extended durations I get 25-26 mpg during the summer months. (Better in the cold) Granted; my fuel is much more expensive, but it's also MUCH larger, heaver and has the aerodynamic efficiency of a small apartment building........ Now that being said once I get up to +-70 MPH I'm in the 19-21 MPG range. "In town" I'm sure yours would slaughter my 12-13 MPG though.

Diesel has a completely different power to fuel consumption ratio and gets more and more efficient when run at a consistent RPM for long periods of time like when cruising at 62 mph. All that diesel torque also tends to make the wind resistance less of a problem as compared to a 2.0L turbocharged gas engine which is losing torque at those cruise control rpms.

In what mode E-save was set to? Saving or Charging?
@dataoutlaw98

Save mode only. Charge mode is only if you really need to charge up the battery for overlanding or something

This is a horrible plug in hybrid not efficient for a hybrid Jeep should have thought this out hopefully they do better on the 24 models but doubt it

I don't get the sense it was designed to be any more efficient than a gas Jeep although it is slightly more efficient than the 2.0T (only slightly). IMHO the design was to give all of the power and offroad capability of a Jeep and still offer EV only modes to save money on short trips.
