I subbed not because of the car, but because the interviewer knows his shit and isn't one of those people who asks pointless questions. Best interview ever. Also this is probably the first GT86 that isn't a fucking drift car. Finally.
Toyota didnt need subaru to make the 86 since everyone just engine swaps it. Probably would have been cheaper just to sell a body in white without drivetrain.
I'd of preferred it to come with a camry v6 motor with a 6 speed manual transmission over the weak boxer motor any day . And I think it would have sold better .
I heard V10, I thought Viper V-10 and wondered how it would fit and if the weight would keep the back wheels off the ground. I'm glad I was wrong and it's a BMW V-10 (not the updated truck engine), a real race car engine. I can't wait to see what this car will do on the track.
Awesome build. I always wanted to put an S65 V8 (E9x M3) into a street legal 86/BRZ but I wasn't really sure about how badly it would affect the handling compared to a boxer engine with low centre of gravity. I'm sure dry sump lubrication system would improve a bit but the whole engine conversion (to be done properly) would cost a lot of money. I hope to see more BMW engines into these 86/BRZs!
+Eric I see, perhaps it would be good to get a carbon bonnet, wide front fenders made out of carbon fibre to house wider front tyres, relocate the battery to the rear, change the pulleys to lightweight ones to slightly improve the weight distribution. I would love to see some videos if you do ever plan to do this haha
I like that conversion. That engine is pretty rare to find depending on what market you're in. Maybe you've seen someone in Japan who put a 3.0 legacy engine into a red 86? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VOThemNoizo.html from 14:03 The ultimate build would be to source a crashed 991.2 GT3 and take its 4.0 litre engine with 500hp revving to 9000rpm.
Late to the conversation, but the LS would a better candidate. Especially ls1 through ls3 which are lighter than the fa20. A company called Sikky also specializes in these swaps where they 3D print some LS parts to get the low center of gravity.
When you were at this event and this incredible 86 went under your radar..... I'm so disappointed that I didn't take more notice of this car over the rx7's, nsx's and lots of the other cool cars... I have so many questions that I could have asked!
There are some really interesting 86 conversions coming out. Take a look at the list before you go to next years event to make sure you don't miss out on seeing the cars that interest you the most. I'm sure this one will be back though too ;) - Taz.
I watch a lot of vids about track n builds . Certainly one of the best! First, thanks Andre for doing a bang up job of an interview.. Went right after all the stuff I wanted to know that showcased the transformation.. Must say that the numbers were amazing.. was expecting huge weight problem with swap causing f/r balance to be thrown way off.. looking forward to further posts to youtube.. thanks
Cheers for the feedback David! We do it all for people like yourself =) I have what I think is the last WTAC 2017 [Tech Tour] video from Jono here ready to roll on Tuesday and it's another great one.....and AWD S13 ;) Keep an eye out - Taz.
That is the most textbook kiwi accent I have heard in years. Max Respect. Correction; Thet us the most tixtbook Kiwi iccent I hev heard in years bro. Mix respuct.
Depend if it fits, if its too big it wouldnt, and if its so extreme it would get years working on, so its better going for something wich fits and easier (Ls', an Ej, a K24, jz, etc)
Want to be like Andre? We can't do anything about your accent, however, we can hook you up with some of the HPA branded gear that he wears. Damn I wish there would be some footage from outside, the sound is incredible, considering I m not a big fan of the s85 and its 'complainy" tone I dunno how to put it haha. But this one OMG!!
I want to swap this in my E46 M3 but my s13 is telling me to start my VE+T build and my pockets are telling me to stop dreaming... patience sure is a killer
Interesting about the weight balance, the centre of gravity would be much higher not to mention much further forward. Still, you can't go past a V10. 😁
Awesome build, i am glad, that somebody had same idea...The engine is realy one of the last good naturaly aspirated...Do you know the HP/Weight ratio of this build?
Weight distribution and reliability are important for a car to perform well on time attack too. I'm sure this guy didn't want to be generic by sticking an LS or 2JZ. Unless you have the money and time to replace these V10 engines, be my guest.
ac compressor, power steering pump that alone add up to 20 lbs . Take a look at his engine it don't even have intake manifold just straight itb. that engine is naked...
That sounds a bit boring too be honest! But each to their own. You can keep your BMW as you see fit, and others will have a ton of fun building what is in their own opinion something better :) - Taz.
