Hello all, I apologize for being so quiet for so long, I see a lot of people interested in the setup, we where renovating and building our house for the last 2 years and it left zero time to do anything else, last summer 2021 I didn't drive the truck at all, now in the last month of September and October I did drive it again, still running strong, now going in to winter again so I have to park it, but I will do a video on the setup to help you all out. Thanks for all the comments.
Everything alright? It's been a year or more since you said this, I just got my 89 F150 running again and I know I've got to do a rebuild, but I think I want to add a turbo as well, not 100% sure yet but just commenting to see if you are good though, hoping to see a video this year of your setup
4:30 I'll just stomp it, and see if it breaks loose. Haha like the 39 other "tests" didnt confirm that. I know man, you need to be sure so it requires alotta testing....and retesting...and tires!! Haha that things a hoot man keep rockin!!!
That's one way to make a 86 f150 a BADASS ride!!!! Haha I can only imagine how many people that truck surprises, nice build man, you should be proud of that thing!!!!!
They are going to say I shouldn't, but I will. Edit: I also love how the automatic shifter is kept instead of cutting a hole in the floor. Super clean setup!
I built my own headers I wasn't able to find a kit that would fit my truck so I bought a bunch of mustang stuff and made it fit,it works very good, that megasquirt is worth every penny.
+willy hiebert how does it run with SD? I'm reading forums and everyone says the SD will cut the fuel and lean it out with boost. Your truck is amazing by the way
@@user-dn6qy1ou1f Jesus. A turbo coupe in a pickup. A buddys dad had a turbo coupe back in the day, and he got to borrow it.... 5500 in top gear was hauling ass!! After 15 minutes of that, slowing down to 60 was so boring you wanted to get out and walk.
Wow what a sound! I only have one complaint with my old 300; the darn thing doesn't make any noise. You can't even hear it over the sound of the fan blowing. Maybe I need to turbo it one day and do this.
I've a 86' F150 XLT Lariat, red with a grey stripe and I've built a 302 from the 90's and dropped it in but now I want to slap a wootang war whistle on this bad boy.
I bought a turbo kit for a mustang for my 85 bronco with a 351 and c6 but I’m gonna put a Holley sniper efi system on it instead of the carb before I start putting it all together.
AWESOME looks like it's done right by the way it runs! I just swapped a351W in my 80 Bronco and this or belt driven supercharger like vortec or pro charger, are those Mustang manifolds for the turbo mount?
I got a 1982 Im wanting to turbo the stock 302 with a blow through, its a reman engine but im sure it has some cheap cast pistons in it... What turbo headers are you using?
keith black high ringland pistons 9.5 to 1 tfs style valve reliefs trick flow twisted wedge heads 2.02 valve, professional products polished efi lower/upper intakes-port matched ford f-cam .512 full roller vavetrain ( rockers / lifters 60 lb injectors 75 mm throttle body adj fuel regulator 380 lph aem fuel pump mega squirt 2 pnp computer 72 mm turbo Automatic 6c 373 gears and a lot off time spent on learning how to tune, this was my first time and it works perfect Use as a daily driver and drag racing.
damn i love ur truck man, i have an 84 f150 im working on modding it idk if im gonna do turbos though cause idk how to do all that turbo and boost guru work
Did you retain the original speed density fuel injection with this setup? I would love to hear more about how you did this. I own a 86 my dad bought new and it has a fairly fresh stock crate motor that's in serious need of some extra ponies!
George Thompson runing a megasquirtpnp speed density for a mustang, I changed over to a 1990 mustang motor and the a9l computer and wire harness and it worked good for n/a but one's I wanted to go turbo I didn't know how to tune it, so went with the megasquirtpnp from diyautotune for the 1989 to 1993 mustang since it was a mustang wire harness in a9l already in the truck it was plus & play. hope that helps.
I have a 86 f150 5.0 that im going to turbo i would love to see what and how to save me from some headaches mainly want to know the exhaust side pipes in or welded a flange hmm
I’m a little late for this video but nice job man sound like it runs like a champ but what turbo and boost you running because I have a 69 bronco 302 and I’m going to turbo it and 14psi seems safe because it would only double stock hp and that would be at 550hp but people run 10psi even tho anything under 600hp won’t make the block crack in half
Is this the stock 302? because I have the exact same truck and engine but in a light blue paint :) is there any way you could get me a link to the turbo you used?
holy crap dude. I want to do this to my 92 f150 it has the 302 5.0 v8, im looking to buy a universal turbo kit from amazon, but was wondering where you got your stuff from? the kits on amazon are universal, they dont come with a manifold but im going to end up making my own. what would you suggest i do? how much did your set up cost you?
If you're gonna cheap out at least use an eBay turbo and not Amazon, but for cheap you'd be better off getting a decent used turbo from a 7.3 powerstroke for like 100 bucks, Amazon turbo will turn your block into Swiss cheese, and don't cheap out on the wastegate or blowoff valve
Nice build! here I thought my old pig was pretty quick, but it dont run like your rig does. What are you running for a turbo?? Didnt see that mentioned in any of the previous comments/replies, thanks.
Looking to twin turbo my 88 150 4x4. Looks like you have a steering issue. Is it related to torque steer or did you just not replace the steering/torsion/suspension components at this point? Great vid. Thanks for that!
hey if you dont mind me asking what all did you have to do to allow this truck to handle that turbo?i have one of my own and id love to build it like yours but idk much about turbos
How much did this setup run you? I have a 96 f150 with a 5.0 jasper crate motor in it with 50k mi. im trying too turbo it while spending as little money as possible whilst not cutting corners as far as reliability goes, I dont wanna be blowing rods out of my oil pan.
Not talking about the fuel system obviously mine would be different but as far as the internal upgrades and the turbo kit itself, I see below you said you had too make custom headers too
Hey Craig, it's been a while since I did all this, I spent about 5k to 6k on the turbo setup including fuel, ECU, I did all work myself wish same alot, the truck still runs very good but I do keep RPM and boost low for the street, Yes I did build my own headers I couldn't find a kit for my truck at the time, but turbos are so popular these days it wouldn't surprise me if there is a kit available for these trucks, the 96 is pretty much the same.
What is the cover you have on the dash pad? I’m interested because my 81 dash pad is perfect other then a small hole where the speaker vent is and I’d like to cover it with something.
Hi Chris, sorry for the late response, building a new garage and renovations on the house, don't have much time left over, It's just a cheap rubber mat you can buy at the parts or tools store, it's actually used for tool cabinet drawers.
Is this twin turbo? Or what size turbo/what car did it come from? did you need bigger fuel lines/fuel pump/injectors? Is your truck EFI? Love the truck man! Cheers!
