Love the use of the wooden boxes and packing peanuts to illustrate size and volume. Slight suggestion: add some decals or paint on the wooden box like "Carry on" and the dimensions and it would look pretty cool.

That would look cool

I love 5.11 packs, still have my rush 12 which over the years has seen plenty of rough use through military, motorcycle, college, and edc. However, their newer pack iterations continue to disappoint with the lack of a simple laptop compartment not buried at the back of the bag. It is the only thing holding me back. Will continue to stick with dragonfly, even though I love the room in this pack, and I know 5.11 quality.

Great review. I like the simplicity of the way the space is organized and the karge front dump pocket. However when packed out like you did towards the end it looks like it will not meet carryon requirements if required to measure. Honestly though I have never been questioned. Even with fairly large carryon bags.

Yeah same, some airlines will check you, but most I've found don't, especially if the bag looks small. It would probably work as a carryon, the depth is around 9", but it can get fatter if you stuff it full, and the backpack straps take up some space.

Good looking minimalistic bag. Maybe for up to a week? Wish you would have measured it when full of peanuts. Also, with all the loops on the outside, too bad there isn't a key loop on the inside. Really enjoy your reviews.

I just measured it full. Width and length are pretty accurate, length is more like 18.5 when full, plus the top handle sticks out a little. Depth is going to vary a lot. The main bag is about 9" deep when full. But I don't think they included the backpack straps in that measurement, so if you include those it's closer to 10" deep. It's going to be about 8" deep including the straps if you put nothing or very little in the front pocket. And yes, one small pocket on the outside for keys would be nice.

2 hours ago! Good, wanted to know you are still here. Love your channel. Is this bag (New Orleans) considered to be a "personal items" bag, as would go under seat if you were traveling overseas? That is, in addition to a "carry-on". This is new to me. I hope you didn't see any pics of me in New Orleans, at post office or in bathrooms. I was in Catholic Seminary there (South Carrollton St.) for 3 years!!!!!!!!!!!! I am an atheist now!

No I didn't go over to that part of town so probably didn't see you =) The PT-R could fit under a seat as a personal item depending on your airline and the ticket you have. There are so many options and size requirements, you need to check before you buy your ticket what bags are allowed. With a regular economy ticket many airlines will allow a carryon (around 22 x 14 x 9), which is usally a smallish rolling luggage, they will also allow a small (often 18 x 14 x 8") personal item as well. If you're flying a buget airline, like Frontier, Spirit, Ryanair etc. They don't allow a bigger bag and may only allow a smaller personal item size bag that fits under the seat. But dimensions of this bag vary depending on airline.

I’m assuming it’s not waterproof because the front panel is air ventilated?

Definitely not waterproof. No water-resistant coating on the regular fabric either.
