I just impulse purchased the 24, and now I'm checking out reviews before deciding whether to use/keep, switch to the 12, or go with something completely different. I *really* appreciate the details you cover in this review as it is helping me to think about things like how well I'll be able to access my laptop, and how the bag will do in the rain. I'm sad that my 20 year old Timbuk2 is giving up the ghost. They haven't made the courier with backback straps in many years, so I keep repairing it, and have finally started looking to replace it.
Thank you for watching and I’m glad the video was helpful! This is definitely a solid bag and can hold a pretty good amount and that’s awesome you had your previous bag for so long, I am definitely a fan of timbuk2 bags!
Great bag - I just picked one up in "double-tap" (dark blue/gray). I would have preferred a built-in water bottle holder, but like you say, it's very easy to add one externally, with all of the molle loops.
Very good review. I liked the way you covered all pockets, zips, etc. You did a very good job of mentioning different options. I have been looking at new bags and this is one of the ones I am currently leaning towards. As usual nothing seems to be the perfect bag that will fit all my needs.
Great video! As many are curious about laptops, I was curious if this would fit a 15.6 laptop? I have seen you mention that a 16 would be tricky, but I am considering this bag for school/outdoor adventures. My classes will involve a laptop, and I assume a 15.6 laptop will be provided, so I just wanted to see if it would fit in this bag as I really like 5.11's products!
I've had mine for about 2 or 3 years now and let me tell you. These bags will withstand anything you throw at it and will complete your everyday tasks with style, steez, and will make you feel like you've got two bitches by your side and a GTR R-34 in your garage. The concealed compartment is great to keep my secret porn stash in and the molle attachments are great to keep either my water bottle on the side or my first aid kit on the front during milsims. And on top of all that, i've been using it everyday for the last 3 school years and after being beaten bashed and stolen by various different friends it's still living and looks dope as hell. Overall definitly a worth buy.
Awesome video! I’ve always liked 511 organization set up. They should make one without any of the molle. Maybe a cross between the lv18 and the rush 12.
Thank you for watching and I’m glad you he video was helpful! That definitely sounds like an awesome idea for a bag, hopefully the company comes out with something like that!:)
Danny, always love your reviews. Have you seen the condor prime 21 L pack? It is a go ruck style pack at a much more affordable price point. Would love to get your thoughts on that one.
As far as the concealed carry pouch is concerned, my weapon will be on my body at all times as if I need it, I want access to it as quickly as possible. I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving my gun in a backpack with the chance of it being stolen. I do however plan on keeping a couple extra mags in the fleeced pouch when mine comes in.
Sternum straps doesnt distribute weight, lumbar belt does. The purpose of sternum straps is to keep the shoulder harness intact so it wont fall of your shoulders.
Do you think 12.9” ipad would fit in that water bladder compartment? Cause i often carry both my laptop and ipad together…!! Thanks for the nice review..!! Your reviews are always very helpful!
Thanks for the review. I was considering the purchase of the updated version to use primary as laptop backpack, but it looks as laptop sleeve was afterthought.
Thank you for watching and for the suggestion! I have started doing that in a few of my more recent videos and people have said it’s been helpful so I will try to continue to do so:)
If that's the Rush 12 2.0 there's two big pockets one for your water bladder one for your laptop flip it over flip up the shoulder straps and look there should be a zipper which leads to another pocket
I been rocking the R72 2.0 for EDC.. this thing is a beast! I originally wanted the R24 2.0 but they didn't have it available at my local cabelas but I needed one cause I funked up my North Face bag . My 72 is big and bulky. I do have the tier strap accessory and use it to keep the bag closer to my body and cause I plan on putting it together as a tier option with maybe the Rush 2.0 24 or 12.. that's why I'm hear.. I do gotta set my bag down or infront of me cause the weight and when I'm grabbing my conceal carry tool. It's not fast compared to the side reach but the bag is nice.
lack of ease of access to laptop compartment sucks. i love my 5.11 12 original but for traveling and needing to have laptop out for TSA, leaves a lot to be desired in that experience
How's the water resistance? I usually stuff my bags with towels in every compartment and run it under the shower everywhere for about 2 minutes to see if it soaked through the fabric or zipper and got the towels wet.
Thank you for watching and good question! Overall the water resistant is pretty good for light rain. For medium rain it does ok but different areas of the bag seem to handle water better than others (pack hacker recently did a good water test with this one if you want to see an example)
Is this bag ok for a work day (laptop, water lunch box) and next a CrossFit Wod including shoes, sport stuff and towel ? I would go for the rush 24 but I’m afraid it could be too big for a daily use
Thank you for watching! I think it could work well for both of those use cases, but I think it would get a little tight to try to use it for all of that at the same time (holding shoes and lunchbox for example)
great video.. Thank you for taking the time. What are the dimensions of the back slot which made for a water bladder? I am thinking I can utilize for my laptop: 14x9.75 inches. I don't have the bag yet.
im about to order this bag, but i want to see it inperson but no chance. i cant decide which color is better between kangaroo and ranger green. which one you prefer?
Thank you for watching and I’m glad the video was helpful! I think it can handle it but I would be concerned about the bags long term durability compared to something like a goruck
Thank you for watching! It depends how much school stuff you would want to hold (with sneakers and clothes, it might be tough to also fit larger notebooks and textbooks)
I agree about the 24 being too big. I originally got a 24 and it's a great bag but it's just too big for day to day. I'm 6 foot 3 and it was still too big. the 12 is the perfect size.
Hello I just order Rush 12 today. My laptop is: 356 x 251 x 16.9 mm (not included shock case but it will be a little bit bigger than the laptop, not too much. Will my Laptop fit the Main Compartment and also with a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi, laptop charger and some personal stuff? This is my first time buy a Rush backpack. I only use it for dailyl work and training BJJ, not travel. Thank you guys!
Very nice and thorough review, thank you very much! :) PS: I'll probably never understand why so many bags, my beloved Savotta Jakaari S included, has only one compression strap per side. For me, that's really annoying (in the end I removed them from my Savotta because it was just getting in my way). Two straps could be used for stuff like sleeping pad, tarp, etc., but one? Perhaps a windbreaker or a hoodie and that's that. I don't mean this to criticize your review, just blowing off my annoyance. :)
Thank you for watching and I’m glad the video was helpful! Fair point on the compression straps as well, I go back and forth on how much I like having them:)
If you need two straps on the side to hold something like a sleeping pad, you can get a set of straps from 5.11's RUSH Tier system. You can attach them on the molle wherever you need them and clip in your sleeping pad. Just put the female side of the swift clips on the front of the bag and attach the opposite side toward the back.
Thank you for watching! I haven’t had a chance to check that show out yet, I tried to find an image online, I can see they use a 5.11 bag but can’t find an image to confirm the model
I just bought the 12 and honestly really like it, the downsides I've encountered is the shoulder straps being really stiff at first, i had to scrunch them up a bit to make them comfortable, i also dont fully like the placement of the chest strap it just feels a bit in the way but for a compact backpack this really works well
Why do you need to get your laptop out that fast? Are you gonna be saving the world or something? Don’t fret the small things. A few extra seconds ain’t gonna matter. At least it has one this time.
Thank you for watching and definitely a good question! I think my bigger issues were not with the speed necessarily but with the difficulty in getting the laptop out when the bag was packed. The quick access pocket from the top, the Velcro strap, and the depth of the bag particularly when you have a lot of stuff in the main area add a lot of friction to retrieving your device and that’s something I put it in and out of the bag multiple times a day so it just didn’t feel like the best experience. Like you said tho it’s great that it has been added and it’s nice that it has a false bottom as well!:)
It's a pain going through the airport with the 1.0. I put it in the sleeve for weight distribution, but I usually have to take something out to get the laptop out. Usually it's the hoodie I don't need atm.
I've had to pull out my laptop at the airport to go through checkpoints or to do something even in the moving vehicle as a passenger and it's great not to have to pull out all the stupid stuff to get my laptop out.
If that's the rush 12 2.0 there's two pockets one for your bladder one for your laptop you have to flip it around and flip up the shoulder straps there should be a zipper that goes around your whole pack
Thank you for watching! I haven’t had a chance to use that 5.11 color way but I’m a big fan of storm gray in general so hopefully they bring them back at some point!
