John Entwistle is the best bassist of all time, I wish he was still here creating more amazing basslines. Also, can we talk about how Roger pretty much still looks the same as he did in the 70s?
@@themopar426 It took a fair bit of dedication, and a diverse diet of music from Jaco Pastorius and Django Reinhardt to Motörhead and AC/DC. (Don't knock that last one either; they may have only made one album 18 times, but they have the tightest most disciplined rhythm section in the industry.) But there's nothing like starting off with Thunderfingers to light that flame in your heart and put stars in your eyes for the possibilities of the Bass Guitar.
Been a fan of The Who for many years. Also a fan of Rush for many years. Pretty sure Geddy Lee was inspired by John. Interesting to note John seems to favour the low end of the bass, while Geddy goes all over it! Both masters of their instrument!
Wow! What a concert experience that must have been! Love the clash! What opener like you said. I was a junior in high school then and living on the east coast. lol
So the drummer is Zac Starr then? He's a good drummer but no Moonie. And I would hazard a guess he doesn't travel by train much, or he would know where all those cute little tom fills come from. This is what British trains used to sound like and still do, to some extent.
Zac Starkey does a more than competent job of drumming for the band, but where do you find a replacement for the "Ox", be great if someone could then we might have a chance of seeing and hearing the Who perform live again in a way that they should. That is if Rogers voice can hold out......he is brilliant on this one by the way!
The thing you have to remember about Zac is; he was Keith Moons Godson......I met Zac and his dad about 4 years before this was shot during the Allstar Band Tour that Zac (19 at the time) played drums on stage right and did an amazing job. He is not Keith.......but he is his Godson.....so there is some nice Karma there. He and his father were both wonderful human beings.
That's his younger brother Philip i believe is his man. Peter isn't a great lead guitarist more of Rhythm guitar player his brother is a great lead guitar player
@Gothic1982 John is the only bassist I've ever heard who plays the bass guitar as though it was a lead guitar. Pete has said of John that The Who actually had two lead guitarists, LOL!
this DVD was shot at Wright State University, Dayton,Ohio. Audience shots were edited in from other shows. Gary Glitter was there but he was cut out and replaced by PJ Proby. Glitter was shitcanned halfway thru the tour because he kept fucking up. After his legal troubles I think THE WHO wanted to distance themselves from him as far as they could. Anyway, this was the first show in the states, Monday, Nov. 4 1996. I was there!
@CentraCross Internet high-five, sir. I really think the people who take the time to slam Ringo should instead spend that time really listening to some of his better tracks. He didn't suck, he just didn't deviate form the classic backbeat much - he was a transition to today's drumming, in a way. Listen to Tomorrow Never Knows or Rain; hell Magical Mystery Tour as a whole is Ringo's peak. But this isn't about Ringo, is it? It's about his son and the AMAZING BAND he drums for! THE WHO FOREVER!
Well not out of sync when I watched it. What can we say?! If you know the original then you will know that this is a great live performance. Entwhistle's solo was class! (can't help wondering it sniff had something to do with his confident gusto). Quadrophenia is arguably one their best album. What a band!
could be the best video i have seen on here. and i am not the whos greatest fan.think they were a great band but will get more into them after watching this.
I would do that but I no longer have the video I used. It was on my old computer that died, and I borrowed the DVD from a friend who went away to college. I'll try to see if I can borrow the DVD again.
The original Quadrophenia album is without doubt a work of genius! The film was a bit shoddy and tacky in places, though good fun! Perfoming Quadrophenia with running commentary is also well tacky!! To enjoy Quadrophenia you have to listen to the original Vinyl recording, not the Cd, which has been ruined with a re-mix!! What the hell happened with you pete? why fix it if it aint broke!!!
keith and john were two of the greastest musicians of all time didnt john win bassist of the century or something i cant remember i saw them in 2006 in toronto on my birthday and it was the best present ive ever gotten
Actually, so did John. When asked how he had to adjust his playing to Kenney Jones replacing Keith Moon, he said the real adjustment he had to make was due Rabbit coming in to play keyboards. He preferred the 4-piece lineup, plus Rabbit had a tendency to wind up in John's room. Personally, I think they should have started taking a keyboardist on the road in 1971.
If I am not mistaken, that is Pete's son, Simon, playing electric. I saw this tour, and would happily go see them again, even though Entwistle is gone.
