i have an 04 tahoe 5.3 and a 95 F-150 4.9 6 straight and ive had the question of LS swapping the engines all year and hadnt been able to find good enough info til this video so thank you!👏
@@VvcrxzyV if you find a donor truck wrecked Chevy you can do it pretty cheap if you leave everything stock. To get it running you would just need engine mounts driveshaft trans crossmember harness and power steering lines
I used fittings from earls to convert to AN fittings on the ford gearbox and the gm pump and then made custom lines from the gm pump to the ford gearbox. I haven’t had any issues with the steering
I have 1995 ford f150 its starting to knock . this drunk ass hit me in my dads 2000 chevy 1500 ls engine might b save able just dont have the time or shop for the swap. What wus the estimated cost of swap?
How did you have to modify the cross member to get the trans mounted properly? That’s the bit I’m trying to figure out before I buy everything for a 5.3 swap
It was stock for many years but now it's on a full build and better than ever. I believe it was one of the first if not first ls swapped f150 in South Texas back in 2010.
I wanna do this to my bronco but i feels like ima run into a lot of issues. Its a 96 EB electric 4x4. Do you think i have to swap the transfercase as well?. Did you get custom drive shafts?
I’m not familiar with 4x4 but I would think you need a transfer case to Match the transmission in order for it to work. I used my original driveshaft and just changed the front yoke the length was perfect.
@@felixpena3390 originally I just had a 60psi pump from the parts store and modified it to fit the stock sending unit but I was having fuel cutoff issues so I upgraded to a 255lph pump that’s direct drop in for these trucks
Only speedometer works right now I haven’t hooked up the others but they can be hooked up to work using the original sensors adapting them to the ls motor
@@ObsVic very cool. Did you adapt the power steering and A/C? I'm building a L33 now. Total cost, for 400 hp is about the same as a Lightning intake for a Ford to make 240 hp. The cost benefit is way worth it. They make a dress up kit to make it look like a SBF. The haters won't even know.... Lol
@@WhiskeyDeanRides I did adapt the power steering and ac ls power steering to ford gear box and af I used a sanden 508 compressor and made custom lines for both.
Ac with a bracket from ict billet. Power steering I make custom likes to work with the gearbox and alternator it just tied into the factory wiring and it charges at 14.3v no issues
Highway I get about 16mpg. I haven’t Dynoed the truck yet to see the HP yet I’ll be doing that soon. Cost I have around 8k into it. I’ll be working on making more videos soon.
Sick swap man I'm trying to do the same setup but I was wondering how you did the harness becuz I'm making one for mine currently but I need to adapt the truck and engine harness together for the gauges
My standalone harness is wired to the factory wiring on the truck to have the key work like factory but the gauges I didn’t hook up I used aftermarket gauges.
Working on the 300 wasnt the issue there good engines but there for work lol super slow that’s the reason I did the swap now it’s quick not crazy fast but picks up nice.
What gauges do you still have operating? Would like to swap the wifes Bronco, but want to retain all the gauges while using either a GM ecu or holley terminator.
On the dashboard only the fuel gauge volt meter and speedometer work. The coolant temp and oil pressure can be hooked up using adapter fittings but I just put aftermarket gauges for oil pressure . And for coolant temp I use a Bluetooth adapter do display gauges on an iPad. If you go Holley terminator you could display all that on the digital screen that it comes with. I’ve been thinking of going that route .
@@ObsVic you ain’t wrong about the cost, most guys I know that run Chevy engines prefer ford engines and the reason they’re not is because of it being too expensive. If I ever did a swap like this, I would wait until I had enough for a coyote.
Hey man, sweet build. I’m actually in the process of swapping a Lightning. You have an email where I could ask more questions? Don’t want any phone numbers posted here
Clean truck!! I’m in the middle of a swap with a 6.0 mated to a 4l80e into a 95 bronco. I saw your top radiator hose but what was your bottom one? And is that a gm radiator? Keep it up man!
No! Lol I’m a die hard Ford guy and for what you can buy a 5.3 and a cam and tune it for you’re just lighting money on fire to try to do it with Ford stuff
@@ObsVic I just bought a ‘93 4x4 5.0 from the original owner. 27K orig. miles. Been driving it around and realize the same thing!!! 🙄🤣 Is there even a higher MPH speedo available for these OBS trucks, do you know?
