5/8" Titanium vs 50 Cal's Best Rounds AP, Raufoss, SLAP & SLAP-T

So I was watching Edwin Sarkissian's channel and he had shot some 1 1/2" thick Titanium (Not sure of the grade) with a 50 cal and a 20mm and didn't make it through. (Great video's Edwin) So I decided to go with a 5/8" thick piece of Grade 5 (6AL-4V) Titanium from TMS Titanium (Thanks guys) and start working my way up to the 1 1/2" to see if the SLAP rounds will make it through.
The rounds we used were the MK263 AP, MK211 Raufoss, M903 SLAP and the MK962 SLAP-T.

The SLAP rounds are meant for use only in the M2 Browning Machine Gun. You need the 4ft barrel for proper acceleration, and 120lbs of mass to absorb the recoil.

According to calculation’s I’ve done with M903 SLAP rounds, apparently an even longer barrel (say, 1.8m in length) could boost the speed of the rounds further, to above 1,400 m/s from the M2’s 1,219 m/s. Reason being I was designing a portable .50 BMG rifle designed specifically for use with the M903 SLAP round, and it helps mentioning that it’s bullpup to reduce overall length, with a bolt action on the left side for easier actuating and better potential for accuracy.

@camarokidbb4347 if I recall correctly, and I've been retired for nearly a decade, but, if I recall correctly the original pinecone brake on the original M82 was safe to use with SLAP rounds. Wait, now I can't remember if it was, or the the switch to harmonica style was... old age. If you get ahold of the Army manual, one brake was safe to use with slap rounds without causing weapon RUD.

1 inch won't be enough. Also note that your target was angled, so effective thickness was more than expected.

Hello, and thanks for the comment, we did the 1" titanium video and it only stopped the MK263 AP round. We are hoping to get a 1 1/4" plate from TMS soon
@stagxxxghost876
@stagxxxghost876 4 года назад
If you are worried about ricochet slant the plate forward at a decent angle and it will ground the rounds after they bounce back. Just use a stronger material to hold the plate in place so it doesn’t slam back far enough to project the rounds out at a bad angle.

What would be the result of a human torso being shot right in the middle with one of those 4000fps rounds? Would hydrostatic shock turn the body into pieces?
@GoingBallistic
@GoingBallistic 4 года назад
Thanks for the comment, or it would go through them so fas they wouldn’t know what hit them they they would fall over ☠️ I shot some bowling pins and it went through 5 of them an only left a tiny hole before it ricocheted off.
@SaftonYT
@SaftonYT 4 года назад
It would just whip right through the body. It wouldn't dismember them or anything dramatic; it could potentially take off a limb that it strikes, however.
@ferna2294

@@SaftonYT That´s right. After watching this vid, I watched a fella hunting deer and other animals with a 50 cal. It is not as dramatic as I thought.

@@GoingBallistic I'm going to assume because its a sabot. Smaller, lighter bullet being propelled by a .50 bmg cartridge. The non sabot rounds have proven to blow people in half thanks to the larger and heavier bullets. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Great video. I want to see this gun how far can shoot
@SakuraCommander
@SakuraCommander 4 года назад
Do only i think that taking muzzle off would not affect first shoot accuaricity? As the gun kicks AFTER the bullet leaves the barrel. Bullet isn't attached to the gun so tahat recoil kocks it off target ;_;. Wind and air temp does tho. I'm not taking his good aim off him...i did not hear the distance, but still solid, small target hits. Muzzle breake gekps with continues fire if you send of a follow up shoots, so that you can re-track target faster. As u fight less kick back thus less time wasted (as well as less pain). I just want to know if i'm wrong, pls correct if thats the case.

RIFLE QUESTION: When people say "BMG", do all of them know what they are talking about, or do they just add that on every time it's a 50 cal rifle, no matter what kind it is? Secondly, what does BMG even mean? Is it standard for All 50's, or just certain ones?

It would be really cool to see a side by side comparison with steel and titanium to see how they compare in ballistic protection in regards to both thickness and weight. One would think AR500 is a little stronger when compared in thickness, but weaker when comparing weight.
