Hi Thomas, I posted these questions 2 months ago when your video was released, I never got an answer and I still really hope you can explain more about these, Thanks! 1: What are your latency and buffer settings? with that amount of plugins I wonder if you feel any latency 2: Could you explain more in detail about how you configured the macro for the different FX racks? 3: Are you running those FX racks in parallel on different channels or everything is assigned to one channel? 4: The "guitar rec" channel that gets its input from the "guitar rack" channel is assigned as separate to avoid the latency induced when using the monitoring? It's great to see this kind of videos that show your experience as a recording and mastering engineer, I hope you can still do a video about the time you stopped playing and how you regained shape and motivation, Thanks as always! 🤘🏻
@McRocklin
@McRocklin 3 года назад
1. Total latency is 6ms - feels pretty tight and in sync with no discernible latency felt. 2. I use the Ableton chain selector feature. 3. Every effect is run in serial. One lane/line for each tone. 4. That’s just so I can record the final sound of the channels in one shot, so it’s easy to edit later. It is the final output from my guitar plugin chain. No additional effects are added after this.

The video I have been searching for. I have fiddled with Amplitube 4 for a year and not been fully satisfied. Then I found Neural DSP's Saldano modeler and I fell in love. I really want to create a unique sound through my DAW but have no real clue how to do it. I don't have any of my equipment (pedals, rack units) any more. So I have had to start over.

Thomas dude - Radial Shotgun - 1 to 4 output signal splitter with iso'ed and buffered outs (and stereo too I believe!), or if you want to go nuts, they also build a 1 to 7 splitter, their JD7 is pretty awesome too.....which I think I saw Vai use in one of his gear/studio tour vids? Awesome, awesome video… Probably 90% of all my playing these days is in the DAW (Logic) and I have everything from a Kemper to an Axe-Fx to Helix Native to Amplitude and, of course, a nice collection of Neural DSP plugins that continues to grow. I do all my tone chasing out of a rack unit and installed plugins. I do about all of my playing in the DAW, including a project I have named “practice” that is for (just guess) practicing over a click track at different tempos, practicing over a drum loop and playing over chord progressions. If I come up with any ideas I record them on any one of a dozen projects I have with bits of inspiration. I’m sure I’m not alone, this is a great way to keep getting better and stay creative while capturing whatever magic that comes from the effort. If I we’re starting over I would start with buying the best guitar I could afford, a DAW and start building a collection of digital options. I like to think of modeling and profiles as crayons and tone chasing is like trying to put different colored crayons in the box. This video is a phenomenal roadmap to doing just that, these are great examples and tone is inspiration to play. Yes, I’ve also dialed in a great, crazy tone and experienced time travel. The “six hours later” joke hits home. One question though: no Eventide H3000 plug-in? I’m a huge Steve Vai guy and Passion and Warfare made me want to quit playing because it was so intimidating with all those multi-effect , impossible tones. To have access to those in a plug-in is incredible. Surprised it didn’t make the video but great video all the same. Thanks!

@robertmessinger6053
@robertmessinger6053 3 года назад
@@McRocklin It doesn’t matter how long a video is when it’s good but yeah, maybe break down into different parts. I guess it could have been 2 parts with lead and clean tones but I was interested enough to watch it all the way through. Good content, bought the Blue Cat sustainiac thing yesterday because of the video and it’s great. Definitely need to kill the note with a mute or it responds weird and the note will decay unlike the sustainiac but it’s great when you dial it in so the harmonic doesn’t get too boomy. Another crayon in my box to color with, thanks for that…

I avoided for a while computer side for playing guitar and I was using an Katana for whatever my bedroom guitar playing level was been able too give :) Too much of a hassle to get it all right with a daw, too many plugins and what not and I was wasting too much time testing around instead of playing. But, now when I wanna move things a bit forward like recording and stuff, this BlueCat AcueFiend opens some new tones for my barely mediocre solo's, I love it and thx for sharing all the stuff you are using (in all the videos, not just this one). Can you also share what is that lick you play at 17:30? I swear I heard it somewhere, frigging awesome :)

I was getting pretty good at tuning, I good tune all the strings correctly to eachother fairly quickly, but my bottom string was so out it just wasnt funny. It sounded to flat, so I tightened it, and I think i over-compensated, because by the time I got down to the 3rd string, it was just marginally flat, so I tightened it and snapped. It gave me a huge fright, buy now im wondering, how serious is this? I know you can buy strings and change them, but how easy is it? This guitar is 1 and a half months old, so how close were the strings to needing changing anyway? Yeah, that was pretty scary....

I have an odd question regarding the fishman pickups... do all your guitars sound the same that have fishman moderns regardless of the woods of said guitars or do they have subtle differences tonally that the pickups enhance or diminish depending on the wood of said guitar?
@stevedavis5149
@stevedavis5149 3 года назад
I just fitted up 1 more of my guitars (les paul) with the fishman fluence pickups so I have 2 with that one and my Kiesel. Between mine I can say that there is still a difference, but it is much more subtle than you would normally expect from standard passive pick ups.
@Theability83
@Theability83 3 года назад
@@stevedavis5149 thanks for the response man, I appreciate it. I figured there would be some subtle differences tonally given that different woods and different densities of woods and even construction of the build (bolt on/ set neck/neck thru) all play a role in the tone, however minimal they may be.
