Great video… I love your pacing and how you broke things down. I am new to Pickleball, I have played five times yesterday I played with more advanced players and twisted my knee because I overdid it I realize I’m doing too much running back-and-forth anyway, taking a little time off, but I hope to be back soon! I am 62 years old, and just started from scratch with no tennis experience

You come from golf but I come from mid level tournament table tennis. Does anyone play pickle ball using short strokes? In table tennis typically shorter strokes are better unless you’re far off the table and can really loop the ball. Great video I can’t wait to try this.

Thank you for the video it was really informative. The only thing I didn't understand is that you mentioned to develop your swing and follow through but when I actually saw you in the video hitting the balls you didn't do that at all? So then when should one use the swing completely? It seems like they rarely do?

I'm a total senior beginner and really like your videos and hopefully I can remember at least one thing when I get on the court. It's really a fun game if you have comparable opponents, Not much , when beginners are matched against some sharks, surely for none of us really. In tennis , we always had to bring our opponents and partner, it's nice that you can go by yourself and put your paddle on the table and join strangers, however , it's so embarassing when you are way out of your league. It's hard for me but worse yet , I'm trying to convince my wife to not just write this game off. Any advice?

If you have a loose grip how do you keep your paddle from spinning in your hand and I end up with at the wrong angle?

@slukas1375
@slukas1375 4 года назад
Sage advice! Well-demonstrated and super easy to incorporate. Notice at several points throughout this video (more so than in other videos of yours) that your grip is way down on the handle. Is that how you normally play? Is that strategic? Or just comfortable?
@PickleballKitchen
@PickleballKitchen 4 года назад
I do that on purpose. It gives me more leverage and more power over the ball since I'm lengthening the distance between my hand and the center of gravity of the paddle. It's like holding a hammer near the head instead of all the way down the handle.
@groovypickleball
@groovypickleball Год назад
thank you for the tips! in relation to rotating the wrist on the forearm (or what you call crossing the paddle over the ball) - isn't that how you apply spin? why is this bad technique?

Thank you for your great tips. I just started last week and have not played tennis for about 35 years so I am a beginner, but am having a good time. I have difficulty getting to the kitchen line and once there I am having trouble with my feet possibly crossing into the kitchen. Do you have any suggestions on building the awareness up for your feet not crossing the line before you stroke through?? I get excited so maybe I need to learn to have patience ? Thanks again for your great tips. Mike
@PickleballKitchen
@PickleballKitchen 2 года назад
Thanks for stopping by, Mike. When it comes to not stepping into the kitchen, you'll get used to that over time. It just takes time especially since you just recently started. Don't sweat it! One thing that can help is to just make sure that you're squatting properly. Hitting shots below the waist is very common at the kitchen line. But what some people try to do is step forward to catch the ball way out in front before the ball goes any lower. The solution to this is to squat instead of step forward. That squatting motion will help you to hit that lower ball without stepping into the kitchen.

Just started playing and am wondering what the best outdoor ball brand is. Also, on the grip is it ever a good idea to put your index finger on the back of the paddle like ping pong? Nice video.
@PickleballKitchen
@PickleballKitchen 3 года назад
I would go with Dura Fast 40 or Franklin X-40. I don't recommend putting your finger up the paddle unless you just absolutely cannot break the habit. It reduces the amount of flexibility you have in your wrist.

I also do not agree with your statement that tennis players like to hang out at the baseline. Even in junior tennis, coaches encourage players to transition to the net to finish. It's all about taking the real estate by moving forward to take time away from your opponents.

Pickleball is not a game of strategy. It's not like tennis. You are not going to move anyone from side to side on the court. PB is a game of how quickly you can react. That is all it is. Serve deep. Return deep. Return hard. Play everything down the middle. That is all you need to know about playing and winning at pickle ball. There is no strategy. This is a reactive sport only.
