In this video, Yianni from frescopod goes over 5 reasons why you should buy whole coffee beans and grind them at home as opposed to buying pre-ground coffee. There are many benefits to freshly grinding your coffee, you can use a manual grinder or an electric grinder which is easier and saves time. The one that I use in this video is the Capresso Infinity Burr Grinder which is a very good, reliable burr grinder for about $100.

Good advice. In my case, if I buy preground, after a few days, the flavor lessens whereas grinding fresh gives you that fresh opened package taste every day..

Thanks a ton, you brought up alot of things I didn't consider when thinking about buying a bean grinder, I'll probably need to get it now.

If I'm using a reusable kcup for my keurig, how fine should I grind my beans?
@savepod
@savepod 3 года назад
good question. A medium grind would be ideal. Not too fine because then water will go right through and not too coarse, as you won't get proper extraction. Cheers!

Do you have any manual/hand grinders that you recommend?
@munkybiz9562
@munkybiz9562 3 года назад
It depends on both the type of drink you’re after and the money you’re willing to spend on it. Lots of choices out there.

@@munkybiz9562 thanks! I needed something for Turkish coffee, and I found a ceramic hand crank for $20. :)

@@cmtangoe9569 Nice 👍🏽 I’m not a fan of ceramic burrs but the price is encouraging. But grinding manually for Turkish is really tough work though 😅

hi! I like Hario's products. they make a good hand grinder

@@cmtangoe9569 I also hand grind for Turkish coffee in a cheap hand grinder, takes soo damn long. I am thinking about speeding up the process via connecting a drill to the shaft of the grinder.

frescopod do you think you could reliably identify pre-ground vs. fresh ground coffees blindfolded?
@savepod

What about cost per yield of self ground vs bought ground?
@savepod
@savepod 2 года назад
Definitely depends on the quality of each but I'd say a lot of times pre-ground is cheaper because they can get away with using lower quality beans but you can find some great deals on whole bean. for the price to quality I like 8 o'clock whole bean light roast. hope this helps :)

All just sounds like a bunch of placebo to me... The only valid, real benefit I can think about is the smell.
