@@bbizzle82 the new Wells Fargo offers a bonus. Plus it's a way better card for the long run. The bonus will hold you off for the first couple of years but then you'll be stuck with a card that offers you less cash back for the rest of time.
Please show an in-depth video explaining your process to find/book flights on the chase portal using points. Honestly, it is SUPER confusing to me. I'm sure the rest of the card community would really appreciate it too.
Can you do a video on the Carnival Credit card? I think it’s horrible but there’s so many people who are diehard card holders. I’d like to see why I’m wrong or be able to explain to them why they are.
I agree with Sebby's list. Beginner cards should always have flexible redemptions. I'm so glad to find a beginner's list that DOESN'T have any of the AMEX blue cash cards. Very overrated cards that do earn good multipliers for grocery stores, but has terrible redemption. Statement credit for redemption kinda sucks tbh. The reason he didn't mention about Discover is, because they don't like "competing" against other issuers for some reason. Idk why cuz its weird.
Statement Credit isn't my favorite.. But it's not terrible if you're running a family and buying groceries regularly. It's a $25-50 off coupon every month.
@@PeteK-01 that maybe true; however it also depends on location/store as well. Since some stores don’t accept AMEX. In my case though, WA state sales tax often goes over $30 for families who shop for groceries therefore statement credit isn’t good enough
@@Frostyrnb77 what? I'm now genuinely confused. Sales tax is everywhere on almost everything except for food. Washington state does not tax groceries. Unless you can't cook and everything you purchase is prepared food.
@@bbizzle82 Not exactly, one can't use statement credit for investing or paying down student loans. Plasq doesn't allow AMEX or Visa payments for student loans therefore statement credits aren't as flexible as actually getting direct deposit
completely agree about the apple card. Very easy to get for starters and shows how to avoid interest. Beware they dont like sharing the exact statement date so keep utilization on the lower side for this card
Would you need your score between 700 and 730 to get these cards? Well I can get the citi custom cash which has a sweet $300 dollar bonus at this time.
Just a thought but Apple should give more benefit for apple products since a lot of students buys apple products for school. I was thinking something like 10 percent cash back or discounts (similar to Amazon) on your first purchase. This would attract more people to the Apple card.
@@AskSebby Probably not but it would attract people to open their credit cards if they wanted to get into the credit card market. based on what I know about Apple now, they are making a lot profit on every device that they sell and so having something like 10% cash back isn't going to hurt them. Apple accept trade ins (Samsung is doing it now but Apple been doing it for awhile) and the reason why they accept trade ins is to use those material and recycle them for the next gen iPhones. Plus they manufacture all that in China so they are basically paying pennies on a dollar.
2% fixed value with no upside via transfer partners. If factoring intro bonuses, you could justify a "Citi Premier => downgrade to Citi DC in Year 2" play.
I am new to credit and applied for several cards at one time. As a result I am starting off with 3 cards and 5 hard inquiries SIGH…. Has anyone been in this position and can tell me how their score grew given these inquiries starting out? Thanks!
Inquiries won’t matter as much, just rock with the current credit cards you currently have and make sure you never miss a payment or leave a balance on the cards. Also use all 3 and spend at least $8-10 on each of them to keep them open. This will boost your score dramatically once you get a few on time payments going for a few months. Then after 6 months to a year ask for credit limit increases
I just received a offer from csp. I have no cards through chase and no banking relationship. I have the credit score needed for the card and I have 0 inquiries thru Experian. Is it a good idea to apply for this card as a first chase card ?
Hi just found your channel I noticed that you don’t have a video for ppl that are rebuilding credit you can make o e of these for ppl that need cards for this reason thanks 😊
Hi Sebby. Luv your content. Quick question about tax liens that you mentioned. I thought that creditors no longer considered tax liens as they no longer show on credit reports. Is this not the case?
Love the video! Just got the CFF and loving it. Looking to get the CSP in a few months. P. S. I think you forgot to add the link to the CSP Value Calculator in your description.
There will be some disappointed people after watching this video and applying for these cards, since they require you to have decent credit scores and have some credit card history with other issuers before approving you for their cards, unless you have a good relationship already established with those banks. Then they might approve you for one of these cards. Apple card is useless unless you have apple products. Rest of the cards mentioned are decent, but are definitely not beginner cards. Chase slate edge, Capital One platinum or quicksilver, secured card from Discover, Bank of America, US Bank, Wells Fargo, Navy Federal if you qualify for membership there, or your local bank or credit union if they offer a secured card, or a student card if in college are probably best chance at getting approved for a card as a beginner. Then once you have a year with one of these cards, then go for the cards mentioned in this video and you should have no issue getting approved unless you have high utilization or some negatives on your credit reports.
As a relative noob, can you earn the $200 Chase Freedom Flex bonus AND the $200 Chase Freedom Unlimited bonus? I just got one and am curious if it's worth getting the other card.
@@xKaddyx_ he mentioned that the chase could be upgraded to a different card from the same tier. I could have just misunderstood it though. Hopefully the Citi can do the same.
@@chrisgurl3043 Yeah, if you upgrade, you miss out on the bonus. This is why I decided to upgrade my Chase slate to an unlimited and applied for the Chase Flex separately.
Hey Sebby I hope you can help me. I have a Amex green card that is due to renew in January. I'm not sure what this card is for, and does it report as amount of open available credit? And can I cancel it? I currently have a pretty good credit score and I don't want to interfere with that.
@@TheHackerCraft44 it can be. I put small recurring charges on my lesser used cards. My OG card (13 year history) is a Capital One. It doesn't give me great perks but its my oldest card. I have my $9.99/month OnStar bill on auto pay using that card. It gets activity but I don't have to think about it too much.
Could someone please explain to me exactly what the difference is between $500/month and $1500/quarter? Are we all supposed to just forget how math works?
@@patrickdunn7804 What? Why did that happen? How did that happen? I mean if I revired credit cards and could compare them I would say the Flex is great as well however the Discover one is better for at least the way I spend money most of the time anyway.
@@AskSebby Yeah it's really good for that. My first card was the discover it secured card that get's 2% on gas and restaurants and 1% on everything else. So after I got my bank of America card and my fideildy card later on that get's 2% on everything I called Discover and turned my discover card into the 5% rotating card. So I don't get that first year bonus but I would have a use for the card this way though. It's nice that Discover is easier to get. I want to get that new 5% citi card next I do spend a lot on gas sense I drive for Jimmy John's.
Just got approved for the cap. 1 savor card with a $5000 limit. Not bad for my 2nd card. (Started with the secured discover it card). Any advice for my next step/card?? Great video sebby!!!
I do not know much about that card probably because it is not even an option (are you writing about Capital One Savor One Cash Rewards Credit Card?) but I would start ranking them. The reason you probably started on Discover is because of the cash back match after a year and because it gives you 1% cash back on everything and 2% on dining and gas. So your next card should not be TOO MUCH more than that. I went from Chase Freedom to Chase Unlimited, downwards to Discover. Chase Freedom has 1% on everything, Chase Unlimited has 1.5% on everything. Discover has 1% on everything. I lost .5% on everything and the possibility of getting 5% on rotating categories to a guaranteed 2% on dining and gas. You basically went from 1% on everything, 2% dining and gas to 1% on everything, 3% on entertainment and dining and 2% on grocery stores. What happened to the gas? O_o AND you ended up having to go onto another website, every time you have to pay the card off (I find that when staying with one brand of card, it is easier to keep track of).
@@wewhoareabouttodiesaluteyo9303 Sebby mentions the savor card in the video, it's like the 3rd card or something. It has 3% on dining, entertainment, groceries, streaming services & 1% on everything else. The discover card has 2% on dining and gas, which I now only use for the gas category. I won't be applying for another card for a year or so, but I want to keep my options open. I was thinking the Citi custom cash card to get 5% on gas but it might be too limiting. Maybe the freedom flex, next?
@@InfamousAmanda Yeah, that is kind of odd, he does not say the full name either. When looking it up on a website, there is another (which he mentions is closely named with a $95 annual fee one, Savor). The SavorOne Cash Rewards does not have the annual fee. Do not forget that your card also has 2% on grocery stores.
@@InfamousAmanda Also, with the next card. Freedom Flex is just like the Freedom with those bonus categories (not sure if they did away with them after the pandemic last year). If you like the multiple tier cash back cards (see, I like the everything else cards), you have the Bank of America and the U.S. bank cash plus or altitude go. They have that weird 3,2,1% thing.
@Amanda Medina I would probably do Chase cards while you can. More optionality in the long-term :) www.asksebby.com/blog/how-much-are-chase-credit-cards-worth
The SoFi credit card is a flat 2% cash back MasterCard with no foreign transaction fee. In my opinion that makes it the best flat 2% cash back card. Not sure if there was a reason you didn’t mention this card in your video
The SoFi points are only .005 for statement credit which makes it equivalent to a 1% back card. To get the actual 2% you need one of the other SoFi accounts like a crypto, investment or money account. So it only makes sense if you use the other services SoFi has.
The main issue with US Bank is generally too many recent accounts. Generally still a good "starting" card for the game. Or circle back in the mid-game when you garden for a bit.
I usually wait till it shows up on the credit report that the first card's inquiry has dropped and it puts you in 4/24 then apply for the next chase card
Not necessarily, mines showed up a week later on my credit report. So it all depends when you get an update. Or you could chance it and apply the day after if you're ok with taking another inquiry
They probably will do the product change because it's not really an upgrade. You'll be upgrading to 5% in one category but downgrading to 1% on everything else.
@@JACarlington I should do this. I'm thinking... The benefit of 2 cents per point on Flex is good enough to replace DC and with rising gas prices the CC would be more beneficial
Yep! Some are "redeem against charges" but that's still effectively the same. i.e., $20 to bank vs. $20 dinner charge that I immediately redeem against.
I don't think financial education is necessary. That's because I think we all benefit from financial non-education. After all, someone has to pay for all of this..... not me 😄
The video would be 1 minute long. The channel is about maximizing rewards and the only beginner card I can think of that has rewards is the Discover It Secured.
@@JACarlington Yeah, but it's not a beginner card then is it? You have to have a 700+ credit score for most of these cards, which a beginner isn't going to have. You can call them "basic" cards but not beginner.
@@AskSebby Lol personally I'm good on that; I'm just saying hypothetically if someone was a beginner and stumbled on this video these cards wouldn't be available to them.
